Maggie’s What's Your View II

We will be talking to an attorney soon.
Helluva week for sure.

Any of you who do not get the song reference are commies or worse.

Stuff is stacking deep for me this week. Momma has the kidney stone that still hasnt passed.
Got a call at work yesterday that my cousin and her husband were in a bad crash just an hour north of me, right where I turn off to go shooting at Pawnee grasslands on CO 14. Launched their 3400 lb Lance right out of the bed of the truck.
They have 3 moderate injuries between the both them, dang lucky. She has a fx sternum. Her husbands arm got peeled a bit by the elbow, all the skin, fascia, some muscle, and a chip of bone. He has some swelling in his eye causing blurri g and the optho guy isnt sure his vision will return to normal.
They have to wash out the elbow a few more times before skin grafts.

Their F250 was TBoned by another going 60+ that ran a stop sign. Took 75+ minutes to get Steve out of the drivers seat.

And this is why I drive a big ass Ford! I've seen way too many accidents like this where a less truck didn't protect the people inside near as well. 60+ into the side is a lot of energy to absorb! Without the camper it might have slid and done a little less harm. Hang in there buddy! When it rains it pours but I've always seen blue sky eventually

LMFAO ! "Can you tell me my release date". "When do I go to Court?". "Gimme a grievance form". "What time is it".

Eat a big bowl of patience EVERY morning. Always do what you say you'll do. Trust NOBODY.

Congrats man. You're gonna see shit you can't imagine. Stay safe!
I’m already in observations and I’ve played that game LOL, it’s like babysitting a bunch of third-graders. LOL

Hi,

You guys do not have an Academy and State Certification to get before being able to work?

Must be different in the cold weather places lol.

Sincerely,
Theis

No, one year to do academy. Work before. Some training done before academy, weapons and custody and control before I can be on my own. I go to Academy mid January.

I think you had a leg up on any competition for the job amigo. Dealing with drunk idiots spun out on whatever else they were consuming that night? Did they give you more than 1 bullet?

Yes sir. To our SW quite a bit. We’re in Jones Co. with an Anamosa address.

Wife’s grandparents lived there and we would visit from time to time. Their gone now but we’re damn fine people and a cold beer in a frozen glass at the end of the day overlooking green fields was common practice.

Out like a trout. Discharge notes were being written as I typed, but couldn't post a pic at 0730.

1100. Freedom! And now I get to heal at home.

Congrats Buddy. Good to hear you're convalescing @ home. Hey, while you're laid up, keep some Bino's near by. I hear there's a lost animal in the Hood...........

The animals in my 'hood aren't uniformly lost, I don't think. The quick ones seem to know where they are, but the slow ones are sort of "lost in the sauce."

Firefox Has Encountered a Fatal Error

This sneaky bastard has been living in the culverts under my driveway for months. I haven't really pressed the issue, but knew he was there.
Saw him the other day, but he saw me too.
We came home from Sunday visits and I spied him hanging out on the driveway. Now it must have been 140 degrees on that asphalt, but he didn't seem to mind.
After seeing how scrawny and mangy looking he was, and with turkeys and rabbits raising young all over the place, I decided today was not going to go well for him.
Hit him a little farther back than I wanted to, but I didn't want to risk getting my cover blown by going prone of the front porch, so it was a rest in the door jamb kinda thing.

We've got 2 family groups of the damn things living on us. They almost made me invest in a night vision scope this spring. Two of them screaming at each other from opposite sides of the property. Like to women in an argument for a couple hours.

Then one of the damn critters ran out of one of our outbuildings yesterday when I walked up to it. Guess it was looking for mice amongst the hay. Gonna make me start carrying a shotgun with me,

Thanks for the compliment. I refer to it as “Our little slice of Hell” ?. Iowa has 10 nice days a year. Once those are accounted for, look out.

I climbed at Wild Iowa during a black fly / mosquito infestation.

I hope that day didn't qualify as nice on your list. I needed a 1.5 pint transfusion after that was over. And a vat of aloe vera.

Today was one of those days that make the bad ones melt away from memory.

Beautiful grey all day and a few drops of rain here or there.
LOW temps for this time of year and comfortable humidities, despite the rain. I think we topped out at 74 today.

Everything to do with work went like butter.
Jobs that seemed stacked up endlessly at the onset of the day got checked off the list one after another like clockwork.
Spent some time with a couple of good friends, catching up and enjoying the company.
Got home earlier than expected, setup some work for tomorrow, had a beer and dinner with Mrs. T.
Got out to the garage and changed the oil in the Mazda. Didn't spill or splatter a drop.
Got finished with that and settled on the back porch to watch the turkeys make their last rounds before going to roost, and had me a sip or two of that fine Virginia Highlands Single Malt from up the road a bit.

It was one of those evenings that you could just stay out there all night.
The Whippoorwills were calling, the frogs around the pond were croaking, and the crickets were chirping.

And then it got better....

This young couple has had a rough go if it lately. When I heard that they were vacationing with family in NC this week, I decided to extend a little bit of charity their way.
I made a few calls Saturday and set something up, then sent her the text.

She's a good friend I met through work. When she left the place I met her she recommended me for more work at the next place, and that has proven to be very rewarding for me, so a little thank you was in order.

He's a state trooper in my area, and I always appreciate those guys - even when they catch me going too fast.

I'm not a rich man by any means, but when I can make that much in an hour or so and not break a sweat, you bet I am thankful for all that life gives me, and I know that a little bit for me means a lot to others, so I share from time to time.

Kudos Tucker! What we give, and not take or have, is IMO, the true measure of a man. (y)(y)(y)

A North Dakota mountain range, with forest. Looking to the west.

View attachment 6916718

It's more rugged in the SW corner of the state where the Badlands start, a lot more hills and valleys on the west of the river. I look at ground like this
and think calling, snaring and trapping yotes. This little range runs about 5 miles N and S.

Anywhere around Boweman? Pop would come down from Alaska with his two Britney’s and we would meet there to do a little pheasant hunting. Little brother would meet us there as well and damn that was some good hunting. Enjoyed my time there over South Dakota hands down.?

If you mean Bowman, I'm a far piece east and north. The photo was taken on the north side of Sheridan County. Many years ago the Red Headed daughter and I spent several days in Bowman county knocking over P. dogs. Beautiful country.

I'm still looking for the forest?

It's those little green blobs, all volunteer trees. 95% of the trees up here were planted by early settlers, and later by the Soil Conservation Service. In the Ambrose book "Undaunted Courage" they talk about the only trees to be seen were around natural springs and river bottoms. Miles upon miles of grass.

Can tell you this; the only way you'll ever get me out of the corner of the world is if somebody moves my grave.

Had some weather this evening

View attachment 6917101

Three of the bigger stones. Wasn't an intense crop and tree stripping storm, but it did last about 15 mins. Work van has a few minor roof dings.

Love a good storm, God's way of letting us know how puny we are, and who's really in charge.
Agreed. A lot of energy in storms that produce hail that large. In the upper Midwest, we’re always happy to get the rain this time of year, just sometimes the have to live with the collateral damage.
