Not yellow jackets. Deer flies.

Horse flies come later. They're bigger and they have fangs!We call them Horse flies in Ohio but you have more on that bowl than I've seen here in my whole life!
I do not miss horse flies or deer flies one bit. Good looking trap.
The water finally came up enough to wash most of the ice away and I was able to use the loader to make a hole big enough to get the boat in. Still lots of drift, both ice and trees/wood so you’ve got to keep your eyes open. Beautiful day for a short shake down ride in the boat.

When I moved to wi back in 2000 I got introduced to deer flies. They suck! Horse flies are way bigger and bite twice as hard. We had horse flies as a kid in southern MO.
Horse flies will stand your ass right up. I hate all those blood-sucking critters. Up around the Great Lakes, black flies can descend on you in droves and leave you a puss-oozing mess. We used to get nests of Bald-Faced Hornets that were flat out ornery. They would just attack, totally unprovoked. Here in CO, you get a few mosquitoes and horse flies, but it's a pretty bug-free place to live. You VA folks get that pressure-cooker miserability index thing too, maybe not as bad as Louisiana, but plenty miserable.
Yep. We're entering the "Chew your air ten times before inhaling" season now.
I hate Horse Flies:
In high school a buddy invited me to go with him to visit his grandmother in a farming community North of us. After a visit he’s showing me around and we come to a really nice farm and two of the most beautiful girls I ever met. They invite us to go horseback riding and we accept.
When asked we lied and said we had ridden before knowing the only horse I was ever on was one of Geno’s. As we’re leaving the stable I notice the damn horse flies and one of the girls reached over and crushes it on my horse’s neck and say’s don’t let them bite your horse, just do that. Now we’re entering a large field and my buddy says Hey you got a huge HF on your horse and I’m looking around and there it is big as a bat right on the horse’s rump next to his tail.
I take the reins in my left hand and lean way back as my buddy would later described as Jackie Kennedy crawling on the trunk of the Lincoln when Jack was shot. Just as I was administering a lethal slap I heard NO but too late. It was reminiscent of the first time I saw John Force do a hole shot I am now on my back with my head bouncing off this horse’s ass and arms flailing in the air but both feet still in the stirrups waiting to die. Through my now blurred vision I see this gal riding hard and passing me while grabbing my horse and pulling us to a stop. Funny, I was worried about getting hurt or killed and now I’m wishing I had.

We have had a pair here the last 2 years. See them around the bird feeder nearly everyday. Not sure where they are nesting. I enjoy listening to them.
Within 10 miles of where it was on the wrecker last year. And exactly 365 days laterShitski!
Doubtful. Hpop failed last year and took out the injectors. I think it's a cracked injector this time. About 3000 miles on them only

I missed this earlier. Where at in S MO? I've spent lots of days there in my youth. fishing all around the MO/AR border, floated/canoed/swam much of the Mississsippi S of St Louis, rock climbed at Johnson Shut-Ins, etc. Many rock and jazz concerts in and around St. Louis,
I was in the Poplar Bluff area. Wappapello. Did the shut ins a few times as a kid. Swimming, not rock climbing. Pretty cool place!

Fair enough. Not real familiar with that engine. Looks like is uses the same injection sysem as the 7.3 powerstroke/444E international (which I have been told was invented by CAT anyway). Never seen a HPOP damage injectors but I haven't seen everything in the world. Common rail pumps going out definitely damage injectors.
Cat did invent the system. It's the same as the 7.3 which is fords 444e. If the hopo tears itself up it sends metal into the oil/injectors. Lots of problems can be caused by it actually. It's something I'd fix at home in the off season but while I'm on the road I don't have time for major repairs like that

Turns out it was a broken rocker bridge. Bent a pushrod and fucked up a valve. When they pulled the pan to check for cylinder damage, a main thrust bearing was laying in the oilpan. $2200 and it should be done tomorrow night

Thanks. Yeah we dodged a bullet with this one. Last year it was closer to $8k to get it fixed and was almost 2 weeks to get it back.
I figure I'll keep adding stuff here about the summer. I imagine not too many here have ever done something like this and I still find it interesting most of the time

Yeah, I suppose "dodging bullets" is relative and $2,200.00 is a hell of a lot better than $8K. I guess, walk it off, move on and make the most of your 20 hour days. I used to work as a soundman and 20 hours days were commonplace. I'm a lot older now and have mucho respect for those like you that can still do it. I can't.
I suppose it is relative. Breaking a rocker bridge usually means a valves damaged a piston that in turn damages a cylinder. Not all of my days are 20 hours. And it all weeks are 100hours. That's just about the average though. Years ago I sat down and figured it up. There are some weeks that I have over 70hours by Wednesday's end but there are a couple weeks where I only have 36ish. It's definitely a young mans game and I haven't found a way to get any younger. I'm only in my 30s and can feel the difference from my 20s no doubt

I was actually thinking about something along these lines yesterday. I will be spending a night in DC next month and of course I can't have a handgun on me as I travel around the city. So it seems to me that since the city government has taken away my right and ability to defend myself then I have no choice but to call 911 for a police escort every time I leave the hotel room and venture out.
Now multiply that times thousands across every city like DC, NYC, SF, Chicago, etc., and what you have is an organized protest against the infringements on our 2A rights.
Just thinking out loud.
I like that plan... It's got the anarchy thing going, but it's delivered in such a civilized manner, so as to not immediately draw attention to itself. Brlliant!
The good thing is, if you don't have a really serious injury or health problem, you'll get more efficient as you age and many guys get a good peak of sorts in their 30s and 40s. I think my power peak was between about 27 and 33 but power multiplied by endurance peaked between mid-30s all the way out to about 50. But I trained like a bat out of hell from 40 to 50. After 50, face it, your physical world starts to go to hell but your brain's ability to manage pain and that whole expectation side kicks in - basically you become more of an expert at learning to suffer more fully.
Enjoy life while you can, death starts before the heart stops!
