Off a bipod and rear bag with a sub 1/2” rifle, when I miss, I miss low.

I shoot two local matches, one at 200 and another at 500 (one minute targets) and at both, the misses are generally low.

Went to the range today and at 200 I can generally keep the horizontal to about a bullet width (.264) left or right of the POA (inside an inch realistically) and mostly + .5 on vertical to -1.25” low. I don’t think I’m anticipating the shot and pushing.

I suspect it’s inconsistent shoulder pressure, but I’ve been working the hell out of trying to keep a consistent, relaxed, gentle light loaded bipod pressure, but my “flyers” are almost always low.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

(6.5 Creedmoor, 140 gr.)

Thanks.

It may be that right before the shot breaks, you are adding a little extra pressure on the butt. It is a subconscious reaction to the coming recoil. One thing that helped me out was I had a buddy video me shooting. Showed me a couple of things that I then corrected.

Thanks. You posted that just as I was editing the “anticipation” part. The video is a great idea.
Went back and looked at a bunch of saved targets and the misses are mostly low, and low left.

Anyone know a good instructor in the DFW area? Is this an area where instruction would help?

Instruction always helps me. I take a class every year

Sounds like a push or putting additional pressure on just before the shot.

Have someone else load your rifle for you for a 5/10 shot string. They should randomly not load a round and you’ll quickly see if you are flinching or pushing the shot. Can also be used as a drill to help your consistency.
