I have been (legally) living in this great country for over 30 years. Never regretted the choice and would repeat the same exciting journey again with only minor modifications.
When it looked like Hillary was going to win in 2016, I was ready to close the American chapter in my bio and move on. Fortunately, DJT saved the day but the cultural division has continued to increase and the 'dark side' has exposed itself as being more sinister than I thought. What if the dark side amasses enough votes from idiots, illegals, and dead people to win in November?
If a bugaloo kicks off as a result of this, I'll join the fight. Otherwise, I better get out of here. After growing up next to the Warsaw pact and having visited Auschwitz, I have little affection for totalitarian oppressors be they on the right or on the left of the political spectrum.
Going back to Germany would feel like trying to fit today in my communion suit. Probably a downer of a choice. Portugal and Corsica are on my list. Both are fairly untamed for European standards, with stunning landscapes and proud, independent people.
Where else in the world would YOU go and why?
PS: I hope that the majority of the People has seen enough in the last 3+ years to get off their couch and make the right choice but just in case they don't I would like to have a contingency plan.
I am 60 yo, retired mechanical engineer and software geek, and have enough assets to live comfortably albeit somewhat frugally in the USA. No debt, no children to worry about. Wife would probably stay here, close to her family; but who knows. My hobbies/interests are activities like flying, diving, off-roading, wilderness hiking, horse packing, hunting, etc. I am much happier in the country than in a city. Hate laying at the beach but like sailing, windsurfing, and power boating. Mountains are my home turf. Have no problem with a winter but suffer above 90F in high humidity. Dry heat is fine up to 110F or so. Don't need free shit and a lot of rules to run my life. Decent medical care would be a plus but I do not need anything including meds right now and hope to die in my boots like my dad. Speak German, English, and French. Unfortunately, no Spanish or Portuguese.
