Can someone help me ID this brake? Got this in a trade, guy thought it was for a .338 but he was given it from someone as well and forgot what it was for. Now its mine, and I have no clue who made it or for what caliber. A .338LM fits in it with a very little wiggle room. Very little, not sure if its the .20 required like on the BO FTE. Im thinking its either a SAKO TRG or AI brake, but not sure, and thread pitch is unknown.

the ONLY markings on it at all are on the head of the clamp screw.

It reads FKE and on the bottom 72.9

Re: Who can ID this Brake??

Looks like a Sako to me but its been a while since I had a TRG42 so I couldn't tell you what if any markings were on it. There is also a few brakes that look very similar to Sako as well.

Re: Who can ID this Brake??

If it doesn't have Sako markings then it's most likely an off brand inspired by the Sako. I know of a couple mfrs with a similar design. The threads look well cut so I wouldn't worry about it and run it(just double check with a smith or some mics on the caliber first)

Re: Who can ID this Brake??

It's a couple of years old SAKO TRG brake. Current production model has a flat recessed surface around the screw for the mirage band. Thread is metric M18x1 and drilling is 10mm. Markings on the screw are just specifying the hardness...
SAKO production brakes do not have any markings on them.

Re: Who can ID this Brake??

I stand corrected. I guess the markings are a recent addition. In that case, sounds like you got a heck of a deal, new models retail for $175+

Re: Who can ID this Brake??

It does look like a sako brake. I have not seen any (that I can think of off top of my head) that have a screw for a mirage band (flat head screw).

If its a Sako, they use the same brake for all there Rifles which include the .338 Lapua.

Midway as Sako Brakes for $150.

I have never seen (not saying there isn't) a AI Brake like that.

Re: Who can ID this Brake??

now the question would be, is this one nicer than the BO FTE? or should i go with the FTE, AND will it fit on a Rem 700 since it is metric?
