Who else keeps a "truck gun" with them?

I get the off duty attempts.... I had a Cape Fear issue myself. When that happened I carried (actually carried a SBR everyplace). I used various bags and containers to carry/conceal it. None of them really worked. As a cop IF I had seen me carrying it, I would have stopped me for a "chat"--how often do you really see a guy walking around with a violin case?
What I found worked best for everyday use was something small enough and thin enough to "fit" in a laptop bag. That limited my choices to something SMGish and I finally realized a RMRd Glock was something I could carry all the time and only a bag full of spare mags was the "XTRA" gear. If I was feeling really bold there was a second RMRd Glock with a brace in the bag. Don't get me wrong I love SMGs and PDWs (Semi but SBRd). They were my first choice for "concealed" carry when I wanted more than just a handgun. Today I might opt for a Remington Tac14 maybe with a folding brace
Again that's AO dependent.

Soft small guitar case strapped on your back (if you look the part), usually doesn't get much notice.

I keep going in circles in this. I like the concept of a Shockwave or similar with the mini shells so there’s 9 shots or so on board, but believe that a rifle will allow me to take advantage of cover, while keeping the other guys at distance.
I usually have a Glock 17 in the cab, and an AR 7.5” pistol under the rear seat with plenty of ammo. And my EDC is a Glock 43 with a light/laser combo.
Does the folding brace change the status for a shockwave to some other category of weapon? If not, I need one of those.

This is where 300 blackout shines. 300 blk supers are much better in a 7.5 setup than 556 is.
I’m considering 2 of the cheapest builds possible to be able to keep a dedicated pistol in each vehicle.
As it is right now i keep a rattler and crye armor/nods in a nondescript backpack that gets ferried around.

Shotguns like the Shockwave are cool (I have a Serbu myself), but I’d take anything else for any practical use. They are hard to aim, high recoil, slow to present, and low capacity. A basic Glock 19 would would win in almost any encounter with a shockwave.
Handgun for carry, AR (or something similar) for vehicle, bolt gun is an added plus if it makes sense for your area and situation.

How does your 7.5 run? What manufacturer made it? I’ve been hesitant to go smaller than 11.5 inches which is why i would rather just SBR the thing. Thanks.
I’ve thought about this, but WA state has so many auto thefts and vehicle break-ins. I am paranoid that leaving a rifle in the truck it would get stolen.

Unless it is a Glock with my standard Dawson Precision sight swap I bring them inside and put them back daily. More so because I drive a softtop JK, and I don’t have a lock box because I have kids. Once they are out of the house, I’ll take the backseat out and bolt a lock box in and leave them inside.
I live in WA and bring them in daily, except where it’s in a vehicle that only gets parked inside.
I have a 7.5” and it runs fine, but agree that. 300 BO is better at 7.5” and further agree that the DoD went to 10.5” for reliability.
They aren't hard to aim once you reject the idea that they should be fired from the hip. Point it like a long gun minus the stock. Push it out in front of you, when it recoils let it roll up and drive it back as you cycle the gun.
A (folding) brace doesn't change anything as long as it continues to exceed 26" OAL
Its an AO thing and how you fit in to your AO. Back when folding chairs were carried in small tubular bags an underfolding stock AK was easily carried--especially at the park when I had a guy who threatened to kill them.
Chances are nothing will be noticed or attract attention UNTIL IT DOES. That's why smaller is better. Something that no one would think can a "rifle" is better, and if its not screaming "Tac Tic Cool" even better. Imagine you do need it and someone snaps pictures, do you want to be the guy in Rhodesian cammo or the one wearing a Brooks Bros suit?
My 7.5 has been flawless. It beats the hell out of the brass, but in a situation where I need to retrieve it from my backseat lockup, I'm pretty sure I won't GAF about the brass.
Only downsides to a 7.5 vs my buddies 10.5, that I have noticed, has been the excessive muzzle blast (its sporting a YHM Phantom Brake) and concussion. I would not want to shoot this in a narrow hallway, as I would likely bleed from my ears afterwards. Im really thinking about putting a Noveske KX5 on the thing to help with all of this.
BFD. That's what Insurance is for. Live in Washington too and there is a handgun and "pistol" AR in 300blk in each Vic. If any gets stollen I buy another. Not going to be naked becuase I am to scared of someone stealing something. By that rationale you shouldnt own any guns since someone can break in your house and steal them.
5.56 out of anything less than 11.5" sucks. 10.3/10.5 can "work" but they run like shit and beat the hell out of the gun while providing pussy fart ballistics. 40% or more reduction In dwell time and gas port erosion result in a much harsher shooting and less reliable weapon.
Anything less than 11.5 gets 300blk where it performance similar to 7.62x39. it burns more of it's powder in the first 8inches making it much more efficient.
This is why most combat rifles and carbines in 5.56 even in a short barrel config hover around 11-12.5.

I agree with everything you said, but want to mention that short barrel 556 has an advantage over 300BLK when having to worry about over penetration— though mostly because of the differences in bullets.
Ive been messing with this for my truck gun, got a few minor things I want to change. It barely fits behind the rear fold down seat of my truck with no can. Have plans to either swap to 300 or put a adjustable gas block on it.
My Truck Guns. Also my “cheapest” builds (bastards aren’t cheap builds...). I don’t bring the 16” all the time, generally only when traveling overnight. The 16” is going to get chopped to 14.5” and pin&weld. I also have Griffin Armament M4SDK’s for each now as well. I still need to get a couple D60’s.

I got a 10.5 pistol two years ago with the intention of making it my truck gun, but it hasn't made it there yet.

VERY Cool but are you going to carry it EVERYWHERE? If you do intend to carry it then great. Enjoy your purse. I tried "off body" carry and found it wanting. Your lifestyle may make it possible. If you carry it in a bag to work; what do you do with it when you go to the rest room? Do you take it to every meeting? and will any coworker or your boss think it odd that your bag is your new best friend?
Don't misunderstand me, I reeeeeely like SMG style guns. I think they have a strong place in self defense, ESPECIALLY in a PDW role for EP work and even sometimes for civilians; but handguns are much quicker to deploy, handguns will always be right there on your side handguns will look less psycho on the evening news and may never come into question with juries.
Yes I have carried a SMG style weapon in public a couple times but the circumstances were rather unique and given the opportunity I would have avoided the whole deal--somethings you just cant avoid AND on those occasions my hand gun (a RMRd Glock 17) was still my primary.
It says Jeep gun because I carry a Glock 17 everywhere. It’s just additional firepower if the situation warranted it. That along with my Plate Carrier and Spiritus Micro Fight rig and meds is in my ride. I train with it, but carry my Glock everywhere on my person. This gun is more or else for vehicular use in a shitty situation. The reason I sought after the Z-5P with the folding brace rather than the Z-5RS was due to size and mobility.
Exactly as you describe to me it is not carry piece but for use in a defensive role if shot gets hairy. I won’t be lugging the purse around the office lol. In the event I did though it wouldn’t be alarming or suspicious as we all have laptop bags anyways. I don’t intend to carry it on my person. Just like to have something compact and maneuverable because it’s tight quarters inside a two door wrangler.
My point and my question, is what does a gun in your truck do when YOU arent in the truck. I "get" that some guys are in their vehicles for hours each day and they are concerned that they may run into some problem that cant be handled by the handgun on their hip, so they carry a rifle with them. I "get" that but Im thinking its such a small likelihood that I have a hard time envisioning them. I can even see that guys who are in really rural areas might need a rifle for some animal related incident; but in those cases I wonder if a more powerful handgun might be a better tool. Still I say do it if you want.

Consider all the recent incidents and can you really say that you would run to your car then come back with a rifle before the incident was over. Typically the guys I see saying this don't look like "run" is in their vocabulary. Is the police response time in your area so bad (for a violent crime) that you would have to intervene BUT put your reaction on hold until after you went to your car, gathered your gear, strapped it all on, and then returned to take action. What will the police think when they see a guy "armored up" running around with a rifle in an active shooter incident VS a guy who on hearing the police arrival takes cover and holsters (or goes to low carry)? As a cop who has responded to shootings, I know what Id think.
As I mentioned, I can see some value in backpack carry but in very limited roles and with extra issues of always having to have it with me. Far better, I think would be a RMRd handgun with a detachable brace carried separately. Im also really liking the FLUX collapsible brace for Glock pistols.

Yes, when it happens. Most people think the whole country is the same as where they live, it's not. Shit holes are different everywhere but the one thing they have in common is lots of Blue. In real American that is not the case. If Fla. long ago the Sheriff(Summers of Sumter co.) flat out told me he did not have enough help, an to correct the issue an they would write the report I gave them, but the evidence better support the tale. The interesting thing was when he took over crime dropped like a rock. Just 2 months into the job he corralled 35-36 local tic's for cock fighting, that had been a staple for over 60 years. Impounded everything but their cloths, no matter who they were, from or knew. The shit in Sumter co. stop real quick once the word was out. That is my kind of LE,...an the way a true LEO operates,...

Your bias towards the idea of having a shoulder fired weapon in a vehicle is skewing your understanding of what I just said in my response to you. I don’t know how many times I placed emphasis on vehicular use. You certainly didn’t take note of it. The descriptions you’ve used to make your point that you don’t support having more firepower at the ready in a vehicle is fine. What I don’t get is how you have misinterpreted what I said and made it to fit your argument. Maybe I’m mistaken and that isn’t the case. Regardless as I previously stated I have it if need be, and my Glock 17 is my go to when I’m outside of my vehicle. Nothing to laugh at here. I’m not going to run around like a jack hole trying to get back to my Jeep rather than dealing with a threat. You may see no value in it and that’s fine. Myself and others do in this thread.
Yes I am biased. Im biased by my personal knowledge and experiences. I think I mentioned previously that I bought into the idea of having a vehicle gun; but I never found a time that it was practical for me to use it. So help me to understand how having it in your vehicle is an advantage? AND especially help me to understand how a 9mm the size of a MP5K(PDW) is better than say a rifle caliber, since youre not carrying it with you all the time. On that note I "get" the desire for a small size weapon for on body or close carry BUT less so for a weapon that stays with the vehicle.
I mean no disrespect and I do think your PDW is cool but if its not being used in a PDW (close) role, how is it useful? Im a HUGE fan of SMGs and PDWs; but to me that means having them at hand not in a vehicle when Im not there with it AND when im with my vehicle, I tend to think of the vehicle as my primary weapon, with the "trigger" being that pedal on the right.
I don't know your location or the scenarios that you envision for truck gun. So again my biases lead me to make decisions based on my experiences. I lived in a suburb just outside Baltimore City and chose the SMG/PCC as a perfect tool for my AO. I also had experience using a SMG from my time doing EP work. Then I had a house fire and was forced to stay with relatives during the reconstruction. My temporary location was much more rural, way outside the SMG's range. So I chose a more appropriate weapon in a rifle cartridge.
After carrying my truck gun(s), I realized I never had a use for it outside of scenarios that were more fantasy than reality. That was MY experience, and hence my biases. If Im missing something, help me to learn from your experiences.
You’re probably much more experienced in this realm than I, and I’m sure have much more experience with sub guns than I, based on my needs, wants, and research this was the decision I made. I have no experience carrying a subgun on my person as you do. So I can’t base my decision off experience as you can. Maybe these are fantasy scenarios in my head. Regardless like you said the gun is awesome and has become my favorite in a collection of excellent weapons.
Lol the gun was picked due to an infatuation of roller delayed blowbacks. Just so happens the K model was what I was after and it fit the “truck gun” niche.

I have truck guns too, because chance favors the prepared... and I can afford it. Is the likelihood of me needing it great? No. But it’s there. I shoot critters too. Hopefully they’ll only be critter-getters! But I’d be awful pissed if the situation ever happened to me where I said “F I wish I had my shit with me ...”

I bought into the idea of carrying concealed. Haven't found a time that it was practical for me to use it, actually hope I never do. Stills seems advantageous to have it though doesn't it?
Luckily I live where an unlocked vehicle isn't even bothered. So I can get away with big sky racks.
I keep my 3-gun at ar and shotgun in the truck almost always. Shotgun is loaded with 5 buckshot, 5 slugs. Rifle is loaded with 62grn gold dots.
It's handy for putting down a deer I run over, a coyote who's in the wrong place, or making sure I get home.
