Going to take a couple hours at end of day to do some pre-Thanksgiving shooting.

Brought the M40, .308 with the Leupold repro scope I have zeroed with a 2 mil hold under.

Trying to decide shoot on paper for groups at 100 or go to 300 and practice my 1.4 mil hold on steel.

This is as stressful as should serve fresh or jellied cranberry with my turkey meat.

Perhaps Ill let the sun decide. Full cloud cover right now.....if it continues the west facing 300 yard range wont be plagued by "sun in the eyes".

Going to do some post-Thanksgiving shooting on Friday as far away from the shopping crowds as possible.

Have to zero some rifles first because I am constantly messing about with my scopes, then off to bang some steel on the 1000. Probably take the 6.5 and 300 PRC to the 1000, and my new M1A build out to 300 with irons.

Gonna do some more reloading tonight and maybe shoot Black Friday evening after work since the indoor range will be closed tomorrow. If I wasn’t back on hitch today, I’d forsure be shooting outdoors tomorrow.

Good crowd at Altus for a Tuesday. My favorite range was full so I shot at the rock pile. Found the fox at B Range. Worked em over a bit. 350 and 450 sequences were a snap, 150 with the .22 was almost too easy. Had a great time.

Probably plan on returning Friday Morning.

Waiting on my MPA. Hoping it will be as good as the RPR.

Ive got some load confirmation I want to do, my cousin is hopefully finally going to be shooting his first load development on his new (well a year old now) rifle and my other cousin says he wants to do some confirmation too. My bench and radar are going to be busy for a couple of days this break.

I like having them out there but I may let them do their thing while I work on the jeep in the interest of time. Heater core went bad  May just tube it out of the system and go without heat if the dash is too much of a bitch. Im not looking forward to the next 4 days.

Over cast but still bright in the west...

Figured I could get it done, so I gave Mr Steel a fresh coat of paint.....

My zero at 9X is a 2 mil hold under. That gives me 7 mils of elevation through the reticle at 9X and 14 mils at 4.5X.

Typically I hold 1.4 mils at 300. Today holding the 1 mil dot in the head of the steel, expecting my impact to be in the chest between the nipples, first shot hit in the head. For shot two held my 100 yard zero in the head and next shot was in the belly button.....

    P1010063[1].JPG

A quick through the reticle "measure" told me my 300 yard zero today was a 1 mil hold.

Fired up until shot 8 holding the 1 mil dot at POA/expected POI but it started getting noisy until I found my best reference was to hold the center cross on the bottom edge of the plate to get consistent sight picture.

After that I pretty much pounded just right of center.

I give Thanks for a nice rifle.....

Hey folks, while my turkey smokes today, I plan to work on my new CZ 457 Varmint MTR. I need to adjust the trigger to 1.5 to 2.0 pounds, modify the stock to accommodate the Area 419 bipod pic rail, and clean and lube. Now in my 70's, I decided buy a .22 lr to improve my accuracy, receive some relief from recoil, and to be able to shoot in my back yard. I should have the CZ 457 ready to zero within the next few days. It really is a beautiful rifle and I'm really excited to shoot some rimfire. Happy Thanksgiving to all my marksman friends out there, enjoy your day no matter what you are doing today!

I am going hunting this morning (still bow season here), but after lunch my dad, brother and I are going to do a little practicing for gun season. Depending on how motivated I fell I might throw a target out at 380 yards for a little fun.

In the interest of being traditional and remembering what our forefathers did with these single-shot lead dispensers, I might take this one out later.

It happened many years later but if you want to read something inspirational just do a search on the battle of kings mountain in 1780. It was probably the first example of what precision rifle shooting could do, in a battle; albeit with the primitive technology of the day.

Now what am I thankful for?
    (1) A Jewish carpenter who paid the penalty for my many crimes against the almighty.
    (2) The many men and women who took on the biggest army in the world so I could worship the aforementioned Jewish carpenter. And to use my guns to ensure that freedom!

My father and I always went squirrel hunting on Thanksgiving morning while waiting for the dinner to cook. We never shot anything, never even saw much (in those days Chauvin Swamp was pretty barren)

It was a time we spent together, jsut enjoying time together.

A lot of people at the range last night. Some guys from Tejas sighting in their AR-15. They had targets covering an entire pallet and couldn't get it on paper. :ROFLMAO:  Must have been missing coyotes all morning, he still had his camo face mask on.

My 280 barrel shot my OCW load from the other barrel pretty dang good. I had an OCW loaded to test and dropped the ammo box on the floor, breaking the box and mixing the ammo.:LOL:

I have my charge master warming up to load another with 4000MR, and the first turkey is in the oven as of 6AM MDT.

Nice smokepole (and accessories)! BTW, I'm fond of that Jewish carpenter myself! Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord!

I'm headed to the range in the next hour, while the turkey cooks. Then a little more on black friday!

Why was everyone shooting their Labradars?
Riiiiight next to it off on the side.

With the silencer I am behind it a tad so what little forward blast there is hits the radar to set it off. Haven’t missed any shots with it being that close and that’s without having to have a remote sensor.

With the bare brake I put it right next and ever so slightly behind it so that the forward blast goes forward and the angled side ports cut back behind it. I limit the blast hitting it directly that way. Since the brakes are so abusive. I figure if I don’t like getting hit with the blast from 10’ away, then the radar can’t appreciate being right in the blast.

Supposed to rain today. Still Will III wanted to go test loads. He also wanted to get a baseline on the velocities of my RPR. I dreaded shooting in the rain but we both headed out. Well sort of...reaching highway 85 heading towards Crestview, an accident closed off the road. So, we took the long way, driving back to Niceville and headed towards Defuniak Springs. Finally, we got to Altus. I shot the long range while Will III chronographed. The fox, the 700 and 800 yard targets all seemed to have bullet magnets in them 😀😀. We Chronographed the RPR and started shooting the long range targets next to the 100 yard sight in range. Altus targets must have Bullet magnets.

I can say, I had a fine day shooting with our son. He is third generation to serve in times of war.

Not a drop of rain all day until the drive home. A fine, fine day.
