Who's running 22GT?

I was speaking with Tom @ Alpha munitions yesterday, pertaining to their ocd brass. I guess a few shooters have had very good luck with H4831sc in the 22gt. This means RL23 will also run well, as its similar case fill but gives a good speed boost and is extremely temp stable.

Staball is another good one from what I hear but also read some say it’s dirty and fouls the .22 faster than say a 6.5 but no personal experience with it.

Rl23 will work perfectly, it’s all I ran in my 22 dasher with 95s , ran 3085 in a 26” went 1900 rds before it got a little finicky.

Yeah I've heard stabal65 is decent, but afyer trying several ball powders in the past, they can suck taint. Too temp sensitive, not just velocity swings, but ignition in cold weather all together, especially utilizing it in small primer cases. I know the good good H4350 RL16 isnt easy to find, but it's out there. I've scored 3x 8# jugs H4350 in last few months.

Here's my data, broke the rifle in with 100 rounds of 88eldm 34.5gr H4350. Then shot a ladder with 90 atips. 3085-3110 had like an inch of vert at 500y. Loades up at 3100fps 20k off lands was 3 shots touching at 300y. Prob easiest load development ever.

Psyched, I just picked up a Tikka in 22GT. thanks @Birch7. Picked up 500 95gr match kings to run. I do I have couple pounds of H4350 and 2 pounds of 6.5 staball to get me going. A local gun store just got in an 8 pound jug of h4831sc. Tempted to buy it but didn’t know if it was a bit slower than ideal. Don’t wanna commit to 8 pounds of a powder that’s not gonna work. Anybody have any success using it? Any load data you care to share? Thanks

Fill case to bottom of neck and see what you get! I bet rl23 would be better as it has higher energy content vs 4831sc at same charge weight. I do not have 4831sc to try in the 22, but my 35.2gr charge of H4350, there's quite a but more room for powder.

2988 FPS with 90's in my 18" barrel

little to no compression
Ok thanks. Question for the group.
Has there been a velocity “sweet spot” identified for the popular heavy .22 bullets, like the 88 eldm, 90/95 smk, atips, etc in regards to the 22 GT. I know guys are in the ball park with the 22 BR as well. Seems like guys are having success 2950-2990 when guys are running the 88 eldms in the 22 BR.

Are guys finding great nodes sub 3k, 3000-3100, or 3100+ FPS?

Tight vertical dispersion nodes at distance are 2980-3005, 3085-3110, 3185-3210 with my gt and 90 atips. 88 eldm nodes were another 15-20 faster than the 90s from my observations.

Anyone competed / tested their 22 GT against a 22 Dasher?

Thoughts …..
Yes. All the time.

My shooting partner is on his second season running a 22GT, I'm running a 22 Dasher.

For purposes of PRS shooting, both easily exceed the speed limit of 3200fps. I hit 3300fps with 88gr ELDMs in mine at 32.8grs of Varget with only early signs of pressure.

In my Dasher I'm currently running 30.8grs of Varget at 3134fps with 85.5gr Bergers. A little faster than I intended, it just seemed to settle there on the load I was using. I'm flying to Grand Junction for the Koenig/Ruger match in the morning, so I'm out of time to tinker with it. But I'll drop that charge weight a bit when I get back. I would rather be around a 3080 to 3100fps.

It runs 95gr SMKs very nicely at 3050 or 3130. I may spool some of those up for the PRS match after this one.

In a nutshell, a little less powder to run the Dasher, no mag spacer to run the GT. Thats about it.

Have a 224 7 twist M24 contour bartlein barrel in route to my smith to be chambered in 22 GT with the alpha reamer. I think I’m going to go 26inch barrel length. Anyone know who has a 6 gt wilson full length sizing die in stock or an rcbs full length sizer? I already have a SAC seating die. It’s awesome to see all the support this cartridge is currently getting.

A 6gt non bushing die will not size the neck, unless you have another means of neck sizing? It'll essentially be a body die that bumps the shoulder.

Yep planning on using a 6gt full length bushing die with a.249 bushing. Can’t find any Wilson 6 gt dies in stock and the rcbs ones seem to only come with the sizing die and seating die which I don’t need.

how'd ya wind up doing and partner with GT ?

My buddy did well with the GT.

My experiment with the Dasher didn't go as well. But it was a good learning experience.

I tinkered with a bunch of bullets and freebores. I finally ran out the freebore so far that everything stopped shooting. So I'm cutting that barrel back and rechambering it as soon as my reamer gets here. The only 22 Dasher reamer I could get my hands on was a rental from 4D that was a tight neck and short freebore. So I had to use a neck reamer and throating tool just to get it started. My reamer is a .2555 neck and .120" freebore.

The 95gr SMK was a disappointment. It just doesn't seem to like being pushed at 3100fps or greater. I've heard people talk about pushing them faster but I've struck out with that bullet in both my 22 Creedmoor and my Dasher. And I've never gotten higher than a .290 G7 BC in several different barrels. I'm going to stick with 85s, 88s, and tinker with the 90gr Atip going forward.

So what specs have you worked out that are ideal for the 22 dasher? Or is the 22 GT better?

Resurrecting an old thread. I wanted to repurpose an old 223 AI barrel I never shoot into a 22 GT. I’ve shot 6 GT for the past several years in PRS. I am sitting on a couple thousand 88 eldms and have plenty of H4350 so the switch seems to be easy on paper. I wondered about how feeding is with the 22GT? Any issues with AI or AW mags? I run both with the 6 GT. Just looking for any issues I may run into if I make the switch over

My brother and I have both 6gt and 22gt rifles and so far they have functioned interchangeably with accurate, and arc mags, both aics pattern I Have one of the first gen mdt mags the doesn't like anything shorter then creedmoor but from what I have seen the new gen's have fixed that now. I don't have any AW mags at this point, but if it works for you with a 6GT it should work for the 22GT with the 88grs not too sure how it will function with light bullets as it gets to be perty short on c.o.a.l. once you get below 70gr.
