I think the GRP would have been toleranced to tight for what I use my guns for...

Re: Why did I get a 1911... ?

I have the same pistol and it has worked well with me so far. I did replace the FLGR with Ed Brown's GI style recoil plug and guide.
Makes it easier to take apart with no tools.

Re: Why did I get a 1911... ?

FLGR = full length guide rod.

I would have picked either of the other two over that Springer, but I'm glad you're happy.

You'll like the front strap checkering...the Warrior is naked on the front strap.

I have a Warrior and that front strap is worse than naked. With a coating that slick it's a real problem. I have some skateboard tape on mine. I might someday have it checkered like the TRP, but I can't imagine what Kimber was thinking.

There's a lot of people that are thinking the same thing about kimber these days

Re: Why did I get a 1911... ?

Sweet weapon - I had one of those I just sold to get into the precision rifle gang, and it really hurt. Best 1911 for the money out there IMHO. Mine was the TRP operator version, and I ran Corbon, Speer GD, Fed Hydros, Eldorado starfire, all of the ball ammo from blazer to WWB and did not have one single malfunction in hundreds of rounds. From a rest it was a one ragged hole gun at 25 yards with the good ammo. My only complaint was it was pretty heavy...but it least it felt indestructible.
I just had a great day at the range with my new rig (Rem 700 5r) otherwise I would be really bummed just seeing that picture! I will pick up another one of these when the cash flow allows.

Re: Why did I get a 1911... ?

One more thing... I babied this weapon with respect to dirt/sand etc so I dont know about its reliability since I never ran it really dirty. Not saying it wouldn't be realiable that way, I just never found out. Since I couldnt get the commander's permission to deploy and fly with it I never gave it that test. There is NO play in the slide - it is slick and smooth and tight so I would be curious how it would do full of sand. I do know it is the most accurate handgun I had ever had the pleasure to shoot.

Re: Why did I get a 1911... ?

I got one just like also it's a great gun. I have only about 600 rounds down mine mostly Win. white box. I have run a few Speer gold dots just to make sure they cycle and they do. As far as cycling havn't even had one hiccup out of mine. I also carry mine ever day since I got it. About six monhts ago it shows very little sign of wear. I did have the plastic holtser that came with it rub a spot on the slide right over the first rear grip serration on left side right behind the ejection port.

Also my first 1911 and now I want another one, come on bank account.

Re: Why did I get a 1911... ?

The sheer demand and price increase of the TRP shows what a solid gun it's proven to be. I don't know what it is about the TRP but it's visually stunning. When they first came out you could pick one up in the $1100 range if you shopped around. Right now I know two shops locally that have a TRP, one at $1600 and the other just shy of $1700.

At the $1200 price point they were the best things going hands down for quality/price, at $1700 they start to blur the line between picking up a used wilson/baer etc. At $1600 or so they are probably priced where they should be in relation to kimber etc. and below the semi-customs but at $1100-1200 price point they were a steal.

I have two Kimbers. One has 30 LPI checkering, and the other one came with some little fake checkering that sits under the grips and fakes it. I like the real deal better but both work.

Actually back in 05 i picked one up new for $850, and a used one for $500. Now days you can still find one for less than $1200 just have to have patience and shop around, but there are still lots of dealers selling them for $1350.

I picked up a used SS TRP last month for $950 off arfcom

Re: Why did I get a 1911... ?

I had been looking for about 6 to 7 months for a TRP Operator, started out at $1100 then went to $1350 still couldn't even find one then was guaranteed to get one at $1510 so I said get it then called and told by Springfield that they didn't have grips for the Kalifornia model and that was why there were NONE in Kalifornia but promised some would be out within the month 2 months later I get the call but now it is $1,890 are you kiddin' me? They said no. I decided to go with either a Les Bear, Wilson, or a Nighthawk. When the Nighthawk came by in the for sale section for less than what the TRP would be out the door (tax now in my county is 9.75% that adds ANOTHER $200 I jumped on and man is that GRP Recon sweet. I will be taking it out for its maiden voyage this weekend.

Re: Why did I get a 1911... ?

This one was 1633.41 out the door... 1479 +Taxes and DROS fee

Found a 6004 holster online for it and got 10 Chip McCormik Power Mags for it from Midway... 10 more mags next month, some spring / pin kits for it, should be good for a while.

Re: Why did I get a 1911... ?

You got a good deal considering how hard they are to find right now. Let me know how you like the holster I need to get one myself

I had no idea the TRPs where commanding these prices. I bought a Springer Pro with the rail new for $1950 a year and a half ago. The Pro is the custom shop gun that is used to the FBI HRT, and which the TRP is based off of.

I've had decent luck with McCormick mags, but I prefer Wilsons. The 47Ds are nice as are the Elites if you can stomach the price.

Enjoy your new gun.

LOL...I'll take credit for this. I told Jason that he was a commie because every red blooded American should have a 1911 in the collection.

Re: Why did I get a 1911... ?

I've wanted one for a while, he just pushed me that little extra...

Safariland Drop Leg Holsters are the best drop leg on the market far as I am concerned. Wether you get a plain jane 6004 or one with lvl 2 / 3 retention ...

Ive used them alot with my Glocks and never let me down...

Re: Why did I get a 1911... ?

I got the 1911 itch one day about 2 years ago. I scratched it the next day.

Most accurate pistol I own, gobbles everything I stuff into the mag, and is a pure joy to shoot. Definitely my favorite pistol.

Only thing I wish it had was a stainless arched mainspring housing, instead of the flat black one.

Not really. I have disproportionately small hands (and feet).

I'm used to all high-capacity semi-automatics anyway, so it's not bad. I find a single stack 1911 to small for my liking.

Re: Why did I get a 1911... ?

great looking pistol, I have the exact same pistol only mine is the TRP Operator, it has the half rail, bull barrel. Same color scheme, I have shot many pistols and as far as out of the box shooters are concerned, I think the 1911, more specifically, the TRP's are amazing guns. Good purchase!
