Rifle Scopes Why no love for Horus Vision.

I've been looking at their Falcon series, been watching all the Horus videos on YouTube.

To an amateur precision shooter such as myself it would seem their reticle system is very simple to use and the very fast. At least to me, all the reticles I've dealt with otherwise are cumbersome and confusing. Turning turrets is slow and when having to change ranges on the fly, remembering where you were at and then figuring out how to get where you need to be without getting lost under stress or in the dark is pointless.

The Horus reticle seems to address that issue very simply.



Yet it doesn't seem like any real number of people have adopted them around here. I rarely see a picture of one on anyones rifle. I don't see many discussions about them in this section of the forums and I see very few of them in the for sale section.


So why haven't they caught on very well? Is the reticle a gimmick......viewing it through relative newbie eyes, is there something I'm missing as to the lack of their popularity?

To sum it up, they have a great reticle but their glass quality is poor.

having said that though I knew a guy that ran a horus hawk on a DTA SRS at a comp and won it and I run a horus hawk on my MK12mod1 copy. It is very fast for shooting prarie dogs. And i limit my range on it to about 600 meters, and out to that range the glass is ok. Its not good by any means, but it gets the job done on sunny days.

I have been looking to replace it with a horus equipped leupy or NF when money allows. For now though it has a home and Im content with it.

There warranty also is not great at all. Only (if I remember right) one year after that your SOL. I seen a post on a forum can't remember where but the op had one broken and that was it. They will not do anything unless you pay for repairs.

The reticles are something different and, for some shooters, they are an excellent option. HOWEVER, if you are interested in the Horus reticles, get one installed in a quality, reliable, dependable, well-built optic like the US Optics, etc., etc.

The problem with the Horus scopes is that the scopes themselves suffer from quality issues and often do not hold up. That fundamental lack of quality is made more problematic because the Horus warranty and customer service might as well be non-existent. They are just not a company that seems to want to stand behind their products or take care of customers. Try running a search here (see my sig line) on Horus scopes/warranty/CS/etc. and see what pops up. There are a ton of threads dealing with the company, their scopes and their reticles. The consensus is the the reticles are good depending on your needs, but run away from their scopes!

Great reticles and my favorite for most applications! Definitely not a gimmick. I have two 8-26 Predators and a 3-12 Hawk.

The positives are-FFP,decent glass which is pretty much on par with Leupold and of course the reticles.

The negatives are-piss poor warranty mostly because it's only one year,questionable tracking and poor CS.I had to call them 3 times over a one week period and finally got a call in the late afternoon.

I just bought a NF F1 with the H-58 reticle,LOVE that scope! It's far superior to Horus scopes in every way.I used to own a Falcon that I bought used.Lets just say I'd never pay $1500 for one!!!

I didnt realize that you can get NF scopes with Horus reticles.

So I currently own a NF 3.5x15x50 with zero stop and an MLR reticle.....can I have NF install a Horus reticle or will it only work with a FFP scope?

I've been looking all over the 'Net, and all I see is NF F1 scopes with the H58 reticle... doesn't look like other Horus reticles are available. That being said, I would LOVE it if someone could correct me...

It would *work* but only on one power setting. The beauty of combining a Horus reticle and a FFP scope is that you have hold offs on any power setting.

I haven't seen any other Horus reticles for Nightforce but after owning 4 different types of Horus reticles I think the H-58 wins out of them all.

I think the Premier,USO and S$B will install Horus reticles.You'd have to call to ask them which ones.

I have the h25 reticle in my uso and it is great. The initial cost for the reticle is significant though.

The Leupold Mark 4 can be ordered with H37 or H58 reticles. you do pay a premium over Horus scopes, but you obtain the warranty and quality.

i've shot 700 rounds through my Mark4 8.5-25x50 with the H37. the reticle provides quick range estimation and accurate hold offs. bonus, the reticle hash marks bracket a c2/c3 target and provide a mechanism to 'find the center'.


the common complaint with the Horus reticles is a 'too busy' sight picture. Personally, I am not bothered by the reticle mark overlay (YMMV).

I just bought uso with a horus in it. I cant even describe the quality of this kit. I have a horus scope as well. The horus is more like a bushnell or a falconish quality type deal. Definatly usable but if you have ever owned NF or better glass you will not be happy. If you havnt then you will think it is pretty good. IMO.

I, along with about 20 others just purchased the new Bushnell DMR scope from Horus. It comes with the H-58 reticle as is a special offer right now for military only with commercial sales coming in June some time. Bushnell and Horus teamed up and, with feedback from the military sniper community, have made a very good quality product.

Bushnell has committed themselves to reestablishing their name. If you ask me and those who have the new HDMR scope, we will say they succeeded. Great clarity, no zero shift, reticle is precision etched on the glass. And the price point cannot be beat.

I saw someone mention that they wanted a Horus reticle in a second focal plane? That would not be advised. The FFP scopes are the way to go. The horus reticle uses mils (.2 mils per slash) No matter the magnification, you will always get the proper mil for determining distances. Second focal planes will only mil properly at max magnification. With that said, you had better set a target at 100m and mil the E-type target and adjust the magnification until it mils exactly 10 mils and mark that location. That is how you will "true" your measurements if you will. With the FFP, you don't have to do that again, because it will always mill the same due to the "target" and the reticle always magnifiy in unison.

The horus reticle is the real deal. The military is moving in this direction. The speed and accuracy of this reticle gives us a clear advantage over anything else out there. In fact, Leupold won a contract to provide the MK4 scopes with the horus reticle to the military. If I was to guess, I'd say in the next 2 years, every sniper scope in the military will have the horus reticle in it!

first let me say I have never used the system, however I think the better approach is dialing for elevation and holding off for wind, I am a hunter not a tactical operator but I can't see how the thinking would be much different. with the horus you have to consult a range card remember the numbers and hold off correctly. while currently only being marketed to the hunters, huskemaw and graybull have marked turrets with with wind holds in MOA marked above that on the turret. the horizontal crosshair is marked with MOA marks on it, just hold off the right amount DONE. it seems like if you get an odd ball mill hold with the horus you don't have that fine of aiming point plus the reticle is cluttered, I also question its usage if the light is any less than perfect.

I think a system like this would really catch on if offered to the tactical crowd, especially since everyone uses rangefinders and don't need that much of a ranging ability in the scope.

There was a big horus thread i commented on a bit ago, but anyways... i used to own a horus hawk, it was my 1st scope. I was able to shoot prairie dogs with it to about 300 yds - after that i could not get the thing to focus - everything seemed a little more blurry even though my reticle was clear. I think that scope the hawk (no parallax adjust) is probably good out to 600 yds for clarity - after that... not too good. Guess maybe it could depend on the day too.

As for the reticle - the h425 i think it was... basically mil hashes with hashes between, makes it good for getting a more precise measurement/holdover. Also, the grid is useful for wind and elevation hold over rather than dialing... or i suppose after the 1st shot, it can tell you how much to dial, if you know were your previous point of aim was and your target didn't move.
