WTF is REALLY going on with the job market?

Again not going into full details, I will leave it at this
Some jobs must be done onsite, there is no option for them to be done remote.
Thank you. I was not aware there are jobs that must be on site. I thought an electrician or welder could do their job via vpn.

Dumbest fucking statement in entire thread, which is impressive considering the competition.

The folks who says “son I’ve been doing this for XYZ years” I’m like what’s it like to suck for that long?

I love those people. 99% of the time, they are the dumbest cocksuckers you will ever meet and know everything so they will never get any better. Occasionally, there is one that will prove themselves to be one of the best in their trade.

^^^This right here^^^. I've been sitting out the labor market for my specialties for over a year now. I've worked for too many top heavy companies with middle management whose only goal is to come up with ways to justify their existence. They add zero contribution to getting the final product out the door. Their illogical decisions make the front line tradesman's job harder just so their job is easier. When and if they trim the useless fat, I'll go back to work.

Once all the middle management fat gets trimmed out the budget, that leaves plenty leftover to pay the front line tradesmen what they are actually worth.
Wait so you are not working waiting for it to get better?

LOL. That will show them.

Yeah bitch life is hard in this street. Its cold out here stuffin ya jacket full of newspaper so ya ass dont freeze to death at night.

I dont need your welfare bitch. Cripset gon run up in yo house and clean you out boy. Then who gon be a broke bitch?
People like you are why sterotypes never die.

Everything I have is paid off, so I can afford to out-wait them 10x more than they can. After I left my last job, they had to hire 3 people to take my place and have a consultant on speed dial. The joke is on them due to their bad decisions.

I'm actually enjoying semi-retirement for the meantime. The scamdemic has really opened a lot of people's eyes on how valuable their free time actually is, me included.

Headhunters have offered me opportunities at $45/hr+. When I find out the companies are still playing the covid and mask game, I decline. Call me back when they are serious about making production instead of carrying water for the globalists.

When and if the time comes, my skillset will go to the highest bidder with the least internal BS.

This article sums up much of what's been said here. Not optimistic about the future with Gen M/Z coming along.

they are the Meathead 2.0 Generation. raised on the promises of free middle class entitlement while voting for collectivists and living in mommy's house rent free.

the closest thing they have to full time employment is going online and shitposting their snarky wokeness against people who have real careers and successful lives.

You think a whole generation is like that?

Yeah, no

I had an online squabble with a "liberal soul" about unemployment rates. He apparently had never heard of the "labor participation rate". He was talking about what great work President Biden had performed for the labor market. And, of course, he cited the low "official" figure for unemployment.

He was unaware the bookkeeping methods which were used to establish the "unemployment rate". He did not know if you had an extended period of unemployment (and no longer eligible for unemployment checks), you were not considered "unemployed". He was unaware the labor participation rate had dropped a full percent, since before the Pandemic.

I am amazed how many Americans lack the will to do basic research, they simply accept (at face value) every word which drops from the lips of their favorite TV pundit. I wonder how they perform a job, with such poor judgement.

I bet dollars to donuts after being informed about all that, he either refused to believe it, or quickly forgot it; and continued spreading his stupid bullshit.

I retired three years ago from a 40 plus year career in commercial design/build mechanical contracting as an engineer, estimator, PM, Sr. Account Exec., Director of Bus. Dev. and VP.
Have tried to get on doing part time stuff here in central TX but no go, everyone wants you full time and at 71, no thanks so I'm getting my real estate license because I know real estate well from being in my former career. I don't really "need" the income, but it sure helps and I want to still work and contribute. Hoping to finish my classes and take my TX. test by end of June.
I just have never gotten lazy ass people.

I have seen a lot of this that started well before the "pandemic". I have been with the same company for almost 20 years now. From what I have seen is that these younger kids that come in expect to be paid way more than the job is worth, and they don't want to even attempt to work hard to move up. There is also zero accountability in their vocabulary or actions. Nothing is their fault. Ever. Work hard? No way. Overtime? "It's not fair..." and these are kids that barely graduated high school. They all complain about the pay and say Target is starting at $24+ an hour. So I tell them to buy some Khaki's and wear a red polo shirt. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. Of course that actually means they have to go fill out an application and actually go interview. Too much work.

A friend went back to college to finish his degree. He told me stories about these young college kids thinking they would get out of college and make 6 figure incomes while working a 30 hour work week. They believed the BS from either professors or politicians that they did not need to work labor type jobs in order to make money. All they needed was a degree is liberal basket weaving or transgender fluid dynamics. He tried to explain how the real world works, but he was "old" (40 at the time) so what did he know?

Being in So-Call I see plenty of shit places with starting wages in the $17-25 range. This is for fast food, retail, etc. Mindless jobs and the results speak for themselves. They sure as shit are not hiring the best and brightest to work at these places, then add the lack of drive to actually perform. It will be an endless cycle. Of course not all of the people are this way, but it sure seems like the majority is. And what scares me most is that they vote.

I think the younger generations while being a combination of lazy and lower work ethic, are also much smarter than previous generations. They are more in tune with the realities of the globe and how that effects their work/life.

Why bust your balls so shareholders and senior executives can get richer. 50 years ago a CEO of a major company may may 5 or 10 times what the average worker for that company does. Now its 100 or even a thousands times. Companies taken over by the MBAs who have ran countless business in the ground for the sake of short turn numbers have zero loyalty to the employee anymore. Employees are looking at jobs like they are mercenaries. Fuck you pay me or someone else will. If they have a skillet in high demand then you need to get as much money as fast as you can.

Call it lazy but its a simple cost/benefit analysis. If the reward is there, then people will put in the effort. Most of the people bitching about younger folks are either already losers working dead end jobs or expect people to be treated as slaves while ignoring today's realities.

Over the pandemic where the whole world "apparently" slowed down and the economics crashed, virtually every single one of the richest people in the world saw their net worth's explode. The rich are getting richer, the Poor are kept poor by socialist policies and the middle class is being destroyed. People are not dumb and see this. They are not going to work harder to make the rich even richer who at the same time are working to actively take away their rights and freedoms.

If no one wants to do your job, then you need to pay more or find other incentives that work.

People say “That job is not worth $40 an hour!!”. Well, it actually is if no one is willing to do it until you pay them $40 an hour.

People have realized that time is the most valuable asset they own. They realized they are selling you 40+ hours of their LIFE per week, and they want what they consider adequate compensation for it.

Life is expensive, but companies want people to accept 2008 wages. People say “Fuck that”, and I really don’t blame them. They’ll go make money on YouTube, Etsy, ebay, or buying OTM SPY calls.

A lot of the people on your list got richer because people moved to internet purchases (or internet use such as Facebook, Google, Oracle, Microsoft), away from brick and mortar stores. People like Warren Buffet made money by making better investment choices. You have always been free to choose better investments as well.
This change in purchasing habits were accelerated due to exposure/pandemic fears.

This is the type of ignorant shit which is exactly what I am talking about. You can't even access the same investments they do. They aren't gambling when they control the market. You don't have the power of government, industry, the media eliminating your competition. Explain how Telsa/Space X rose in value so fast? What about Nike, Bloomberg. This is just a small list. If you look at 500 wealthiest, growths are similar.

The majority of the population is suffering during pandemic. Job losses, less hours, shortages. Yet the wealthy are getting wealthier.

People, especially younger folks not only have access to more information, they know where to find it and do. The tiktok/meme game alone makes them more educated on current affairs than any previous generation with propaganda media.

The elites have always accumulated wealth and controlled the masses. Normal people today are more aware of whats going on than anytime in history. They see the hypocrisy, they see the lies for what they are and they call bullshit on it. They see the elites crying whoa is me and trying to push austere policies on the masses while they sit back and get richer while not having to follow the same rules they want everyone else to.

Ask yourself who benefits and why. Then you can see the plandemic for what it was, a wealth and individual rights/freedom transfer.

And they wonder why people won't work slave wages helping a company get richer.

I personally think that a lot of things changed during COVID. Many people were working from home and while working from home picked up/learned a side hustle that they could use to replace their 9-5 job. Plus with all the ways you can make money with technology, social media now a days more and more younger people are Turning to that instead of going into skilled labor.

Drop shipping blew up huge during COVID because of the lockdowns. Of corse you’ve got “only fans” 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

But shit……you can make good money on YouTube if you know what you’re doing. I have 5 people on my neighborhood that left their regular jobs to do the side hustles.

Fuck, my son who will be turning 16 in June started doing arbitrage on Amazon flipping textbooks. He’s now making $1200-1500 per month doing that on the side.

On 1 hand it’s great for people that can still make a good living and free up a lot of time to spend with their kids/family/hobbies but on the other hand I wonder about the long term effects on the job markets when more and more people start doing this b

HKslave - I have mostly just been poking fun in this thread with one slightly serious post

I will give a second more serious post. I am not going into a ton of detail here, but am a hiring manger and have been for decades.

It is just as much up to you to ask questions during an interview, and I mean targeted and intelligent ones. I usually will not hire someone if I say during an interview, ok your turn to ask me questions, what more do you want to know about the job, the company, me, etc

If I get silence or stupid ignorant questions, you will not get the job. you can google and come up with these gerneric interviewee type questions.

That said, there are a lot of bullshit hiring managers out there, PART of your job in interviewing is to figure that out. You would know in 10 minutes of talking to me that I have real jobs and I expect you to work intelligently.

My older daughter graduated college in 2021, not with serious degree that the world would respect, but a degree from a big name school that will keep her employed with a living wage. She has had 3 serious jobs in the year she has been out of college, each with higher and higher pay and more towards what she wants to do in life

Good jobs are out there. Start with researching the company a bit before you even worry about the interview, that might tell you all you need to know. There are also scammers out there, one contacted my daughter, completed multiple interviews with her, sent her an offer letter, all for an attempt at identity theft of my daughters information that they needed on the hiring paperwork. There were red flags, she didn't get stung by the scammers, but again, researching the company before, during and after the interview will many times help you figure out the job is bullshit. Confirm everything before you complete hiring paperwork.

I had personally posted a position and got a total of 2 resumes in 8 weeks. Serious company, serious job, $70k+
The only thing I was told by my recruiting team is, no one is applying to jobs that require going to the office everyday.

In years past, I would have 100's of resumes a week pour in when I posted a job. I have a full time recruiting team at my disposal.

I think covid did several things, and the covid vaccine did as well. Working people died in mass, working people are injured/crippled in mass, many older people that were still working past retirement age, just got fed up and retired. People losing jobs caused them to reevaluate life, and figure out ways to survive on less money (move back in with parents, etc) Combo of all this has caused a labor shortage.

now back to fun
I bought countless walmarts out of their entire inventory of 9mm when they discontinued it, so I paid less for a box of 9mm than you ;)
Finally, someone who it sounds like I could have a serious conversation with.

Yep.

Companies will have to pay more, or the country will need to import more workers to keep wages suppressed.

It’s too easy to make money without going to an office every day, or working for a company.

We’re at an impasse right now.

i stopped posting anything on fb because they were already profiling and censoring, and i only really use it to see the pictures my friends and relatives post, since that is how many of them like to share. no doubt it is too late to save my "score".

Chuckle. Those who have serious skills are not suffering. Those with low skills are. YOU are your most important investment. Invest in yourself, and get some skills.

Those claiming low wages either have low skills, or are Choosing to live in an economically depressed areas.

I am not worried about "the elites", I am too busy making my own money. I live largely debt-free, and continue to work to make a retirement bankroll.

I am so tired of the "poor poor me, somebody is making more money stories". I have retrained my career several times in my life, relocated a few times for better opportunity, and still continue to get education and certifications (even though others my age have retired).

I don't buy what you are selling. But then, I don't believe in laying down and complaining about how well someone else is doing. They put their pants on one leg at a time. You determine the trajectory of your life.

I can easily stay gainfully employed/making money on side gigs until my mid 70s easily.

Why? Because I'm physically fit, always learning, never tire of exceeding expectations, I self motivate, I hate losers and whiners, know how to work with my hands and with my brain, and know how to lead.

In other words, I'm not a millenial

Your first paragraph is spot on. I've spent quite a bit of money on specialty tools and training that I did online in the past year. I know I'm the highest paid mechanic in the shop and have only been there a year and a half. I received two, $2 an hour raises in the last 6 months. On top of that, the boss has paid me at least a week of missed time when I was out of vacation days. If I played well with others, my raises would have been even better but I know that won't change🤣

Its not mutually exclusive. You can reconize reality while still doing whats best for you. Some people only think binary and cannot understand complex subjects.

I don't care if you aren't buying. Its a fact and is what is happening. You can choose to ignore it, it won't change anything.

making money into your mid 70's? no, you'll be incarcerated in the same reeducation camp as the rest of us before then.

The reason for inflation is not the big scary elites. It was the unfettered "freshly created" trillions dumped into the economy "devaluating" our currency. I see it all the time when I buy machine shop equipment from overseas. The US dollar buys less. A LOT LESS. This causes the price of products to go up. The lathe and mill I purchased less than a year and a half ago, have gone up about 30 percent in cost.

Shipping costs have also shot through the roof, largely due to the fact the ships have to sit (unproductively) about one month EVERY trip from overseas (waiting for the backlogged docks to unload them). This is partially due to increased online purchase of (overseas goods) as well; overseas shipping numbers are at a record high. People looked for the lowest price, and it hasn't been "American made" (the same reason why so many people buy from Walmart "the low prices"). My shipping cost for overseas shipping has nearly doubled. The end is not in sight.

I did analysis on the cost of oil per barrel (not a gallon). The scary big oil companies are netting about 12 dollars "profit" per barrel. That increase is less (sometimes FAR less), than the fuel tax which is charged at the pump. Only two states charge less tax than what the Oil companies charge for finding, drilling, and transporting oil.

Just because President Biden "tells you it is corporate greed" driving up the cost of fuel, does not make it so. The idiot cannot take blame for his actions. We all know "a guy" who cannot accept fault for his mistakes. But, he will point a finger at everyone else, and hopes that people fall for it.

And pray tell who is running the Fed and the Government that sets said policy? Surely its not the "elites" who control the media, Tech, wall street and the government either via money or jumping sides every few years. Take a look at every "undersretary" and "deputy" of any federal agency and you will see them chock full of political appointees who spend a few years working for the gov then go right back to their industry they spent a few years writing policy to benefit.

Its like some of you have a half functioning brain. You see the trees but you don't see the forest. No wonder this country is in the shape it is in, if this is the type of dumb shit moronic thinking the majority of the population has. Absolutley zero critical thinking or ability to understand relationships.

Every single Stimulus, jobs program, bailout or large bill is about 5% for what they say its for and 95% slop for the pigs.

Socialism, communism, capitalism , anarchy, monarchy, Oligarchy.. all that shit is the same when a few assholes control everything and do not have to abide by the same rules as everyone else. We are slaves, and what they have learned over thousands of years of ruling people is its much easier when they think they aren't actually slaves.
