Gunsmithing WTF my Walther P22 Blew UP!!!

Re: WTF my Walther P22 Blew UP!!!

It would have been the principle of the matter for me.... I'm not exactly sane though. I would rather raise my blood pressure than open my wallet, regardless of how small the cost is! It'll be the death of me.

Re: WTF my Walther P22 Blew UP!!!

Any P22 can have that happen. There are many accounts of the pistols slide cracking due to being made of Zinc. Some fail, some don't. The pistol is made by Umarex, so that doesn't help their "quality" when something goes wrong. I do enjoy shooting a P22 though. They are great when they are working properly.

Re: WTF my Walther P22 Blew UP!!!

I bought my 10yo nephew one of these a few years ago and I am willing to bet he is around the 5 or 6 grand mark.

I wonder if the slides crack all at once or if there may be an indication before it happens. I might have to dye check the slide of his gun.

This would be devastating to a very disciplined young shooter.

Maybe he will get a 1911-22 for Christmas.........or a glock with a tacsol conversion.........

Re: WTF my Walther P22 Blew UP!!!

One of my friends just bought one of these because his sig sauer mosquito cracked a slide. The dealer where he traded his sig in at told him the Walther would never do that lol. I can not wait to show him this. His sig was sent in and replaced but it only had around 1500 rounds of cci out of it when it cracked.

Whitney Wolverine. I was told Olympic arms even started making them again a few years ago with a polymer receiver and integral forward rail.

So I did a google search and sure enough someone IS making the Wolverine again in polymer and metal.

Anybody shot one?

Re: WTF my Walther P22 Blew UP!!!

Lawmaker: Check out the Ruger SR22. Looks similar to the P22 but with better build quality. I've been doing some research on them and they look pretty decent.

Re: WTF my Walther P22 Blew UP!!!

Am I the only one who still shoots a real .22LR? High Standard 104 Supermatic Citation complete with ray gun barrel, sliding weights and compensator. Even with my crappy skill I can drop them in 1 hole at 15 yards =)

I'm glad to hear you are okay. It is always scary to see a thread with a kaboom.

Re: WTF my Walther P22 Blew UP!!!

I thought the P22 was slick when it came out, couple buddies bought them back then and had endless jamming problems, no slide breakages, though one finally figured out how to make his run, so it might happen. That made me hesitant to buy one, I loved my P99 so I often considered it, after this never. I'll stick with my big heavy Ruger Mark II, Browning Challenger and Buckmark, gotta keep the buffers on hand for the Brownings though, the Challenger is the only one that ever hiccups, but I doubt any of them will ever come apart in my hands.
