Unions were most certainly founded on the backs of socialism, for better or worse. See Samuel Gompers. He's not the best example but hailed as the founder of US Unions. He started as a committed socialist, but changed over time out of practicality. He was a man of many dichotomies. Alinsky? Confirmed communist. Andy Stern of SEIU? Communist. Richard Trumka of AFL-CIO? Communist. Teamsters have just been mobsters since I don't know when.

You are within your right to do so. I've seen both good and bad. The police union that protects actual criminals takes the cake for me.
Experienced teachers are far more valuable than new teachers. Innovation is not something that is promoted at the teacher level, teachers follow a curriculum that is made by a curriculum director.
My wife is a teacher. More often than not, an “experienced teacher” is keeping a seat warm and watching the clock ‘til retirement. The education board sets what is taught, not how it is taught. The psychology of education evolves every year, and every year the “experienced teacher” gets further from those innovations. And, the March of time drags them further from relating to their students. My wife was at a coaching clinic over the summer and one of the coaches she was speaking with said “this is the first clinic I’ve been to. I just don’t feel I have anything to learn.” That’s a shit attitude for an educator- but an attitude all too common in the ranks of the “experienced.” These are the educators that unions protect. Fuck the teachers’ unions.
And, innovation is absolutely something that is promoted in the ranks of educators. At least in our area, administrators are looking for innovation in teaching style, and both adoption of and adaptation to the use of technology in the classroom.

One of the biggest factors is that new teachers have energy and are excited about teaching. After a teacher is around long enough for tenure they are less enthusiastic and therefore less effective. It's like any other job in that new and younger staff are usually more energetic and optimistic overall. I'm not making it up about the teachers being less effective the longer they're teaching- plenty of research shows it and that's where I get it from.
As for labor unions for public jobs- that should be outlawed because taxpayer funded positions are already benefitting from a unique, guaranteed source of funding, and allowing unions to extort the taxpayers is highly immoral. There are more than enough job protections at the city, county, state, and federal levels to protect people.

My wife is a teacher as well and her experience is opposite of what you're stating. The curriculum director approves the curriculum which includes, lesson plans which is the plan on how the material is to be delivered to the students.
Most of the experienced teachers at her school are passionate and efficient educators. New educators are rarely great at what they do. That holds true for most professions including mine. A brand new chemist coming to work in a R&D group will rarely contribute anything of real substance until they learn (on their own and from experienced colleagues).
This doesn't even account for a teachers ability to control the classroom. New teachers do not always have great command nor are they great at handling behavioral issues (probably why the turnover rate is increasing).
You are correct, that is not the attitude of a great educator and there are definitely bad ones out there. Both good and bad teachers are protected.
What I would like to see is salary based on performance like any other sector. Privatizing education is probably the only way that could be achieved or each state would have to prohibit collective bargaining.
Another issue is the states that do prohibit collective bargaining have public schools that perform in the bottom 50% nationally.
Tenure? I don't know if that is still a thing but my wife only gets a 2-3 year contract renewal. At the end of that they enter negotiations and have to agree to a new contract (The union and school board dance). Also, not all teachers receive a new contract.
I would be interested to see that research, just doing a quick cursory search I found the opposite. It does seem the research states there is a limit and the effectiveness gap of a teacher with 5 years of experience vs 20 years is thin (did not state effectiveness dropped) A teacher with 0 years of experience, not nearly as effective.
I'll have to defer to my own experience working in and around public school teachers on a daily basis in two different states - I've seen first hand the bored teachers, the tenured teachers who figure out a way to virtue signal their democrat 'values', the contempt they have for administrations, the contempt they have for parents and students... Teachers' unions are a cancer to America.
Utah has one of the best public school outcomes while spending very little per student, and that's because they don't allow the teachers' unions to dictate to taxpayers.

We don't really disagree 100%, I agree most of the unions including the large teacher unions (the ones you see on the news) are an issue. The contempt for parents/administration is not something that is specific to experienced teachers. There are a lot of shitty parents that teachers have to deal with along with shitty administration.
Utah also ranks near the bottom in class size which probably helps. No, I don't think those correlate because 6 states that do not allow collective bargaining perform at or below 50% for public school performance nationally.
Where do today's teachers come from, college and universities, many states require they achieve a master degree to earn tenure.
Looking at the chaos that was created by university students in the late 1960s into the 70's a complete transformation was needed to better
control people. Prior to this time not every child was encouraged towards college as being necessary. The changes or shifts in college have
educated a different minded teacher that now instruct today's classroom. Seeing how Randi rules the empire it is no surprise how far
the classroom has shifted or transformed in the past 25 years. Lowering standards is not achieving better smarter children.
They need to increase the standards but start it at the pre-k/kindergarten level. They tried doing this in high-school/middle school and it backfired.
There needs to be some sort of responsibility on the parents part but there isn't a way to reasonably enforce this. There are way too many parents that just don't give a shit about their kids education.

Using this union building will not make either socialist's. Gompers was British cigar maker who became a US Citizen and became a labor organizer. Wouldn't it be reasonable for a person immigrating from Europe in the 1860s to have socialized ideology and as they assumed the freedom of the Republic to shift their political leanings? Posse Comitatus apparently didn't apply when dealing with striking workers and Veterans looking for benefits promised to them. People that declare unions are no longer needed in todays times, fail to understand or acknowledge that the sacrifice made in the past laid a foundation for all labor today. As for those that decry the Teamsters are all mafia gangsters, my advice to you is stop watching the History Channel it is polluting your ability to critically think. UPS Teamsters successfully negotiated a new fair contract, do you really think UPS Administrators with record profits needed mafia convincing? We are living in 2023 and the union had to have it put in the contract for all vehicles to be equipped with AC/heat, why should a union have to force management for a quality of work issue like this, because they the people running the company do not give a flying **** about the workers, they are greed driven.
As new technologies constantly bring about a better way of doing things how do we keep from being further divided? Is it better to get rid of the union janitors and replace them with a contract company comprised of asylum seekers?

You know, I didn't have to watch history Channel to understand mob influence on the teamsters. Jimmy Hoffa story is well documented. My information comes mostly from BIL who is in the teamsters hierarchy and would be in a position to know. BTW.... he's a total supporter of JH Jr. And actively campaigned for him. So when he says there's still, to this day, mob influence, I'll have to believe him as I can't refute his statements.
James Hoffa jr, stepped down after successfully leading the Teamsters 23+ years. In 1989 a contract was agreed to by both the Teamsters and US Government ridding corruption and organized crime. That being said if a Federal Prosecutor had enough evidence to criminally charge Hoffa junior for anything, why didn't they?
