Z-man was going to lose the support of the US GOV anyway with Trump at the helm. Putin instructed Trump to strip the resources and wealth of Ukraine via the "Mineral Deal" so that he could hopefully refit his forces and break the stalemate.
Staging the event was beneficial to Putin and Trump, obviously, but the way the event was played by Z-man worked out the best that it could for Z-man... because it woke Europe the hell up that the balance of power had greatly shifted and Free World Victory was not a foregone conclusion.
