Dugan Ashley (Carnik Con) Needs Your Help!

Surprised I haven't seen a thread for this here yet.
For those of you that don't know, Dugan Ashley of Carnik Con, has been battling MS for several years now. Unfortunately it sounds like it's taken a turn for the worst, and he's reaching out to the community for help so he can spend a few more years with his family. I do not know Dugan personally, I just know there are a lot of people here that loved his work and would like to help out.

Here is the link to his gofundme. On the gofundme link you'll find a short write up on Dugan and a video from him explaining his and his family's situation. So far the community support he's been receiving has been nothing short of inspiring.

Storage of powder, primers, and general safety

OK, first of all I store everything in a flammables locker, together but in a metal locker. I only remove what I'm using to reload, usually 1/2 pound or just enough for 100 rounds or so. I was at the range the other day and there was a guy that had toasted himself, head to toe, in a reloading accident. He had no memory of what happened or what went wrong. That is the third such accident i have heard about since moving to this wonderful state. the others made national news, and were obviously morons, smoking while reloading etc. After doing some research I found out some powders spontaneously combust but they didn't say which ones.
Gut says I'm as safe as anyone, but is there anyone here that has any advice, insight etc on practical things they do to stay safe. I have been reloading for years and never had any issues, but it bothered the wife and started me thinking.

Hawk Hill Barrels

Not sure if this is the best forum to post this question. Does anyone have experienced with using Hawk Hill barrels?

I know people will respond with recommendations for several of the Wisconsin barrel manufacturers and rightly so, they are excellent. However I did win a nice gift certificate and they have a couple of 6mm in stock in heavy varmint contour.

So appreciate any constructive feedback.

Ideal AR upper

In 1858 the venerable Oliver Wendell Holmes wrote a poem entitled the "One Wonderful Hoss Shay". Basically it was about a deacon who built a shay out of top notch materials as he was tired of having his current carriages fall apart a piece at a time. In the long run, the shay he built collapsed all at once as everything failed simultaneously. Along that line, if money were no object, what components would you use to build an AR upper that would be your ideal build? 5.56 build for accuracy, durability, capacity to suppress. I know that's asking a lot, but I am thinking of diving into such a build. I have a Noveske, a Daniel Defense and find them wonderful - but the bug to actually build my own AR (before I die!!) - and because everyone should build at least one AR in their life - has bitten me. Let's hear from you master builders what your choice of components would be!

Son and I usually do a Glamping trip out into the woods. Friend was saying our usual campsite wasn't available, too wet to get to and his cousins wife isn't into having people use their 500 acres and she happened to be up for the weekend. We scouted out for a new spot......

Between WWII and Late 60s camo the WWII stuff worked better......Thing is both originated in the same lab., and it wasnt Natick,

We walked in to our intended camp site....not too wet, could have made it in with the Ranger. Its perfect as its flat, lots of wood, Sheltered from the wet, plenty of trees to tarp from and right on the water.

With the sucky weather neither of us were planning on cutting out a new home than being 200-300 feet from the water source.

Firearms WTT AI AX Covert for AI Arctic Warfare

Looking to Trade AX Covert 16" in 308 with KAC Suppressor Mount for an AW. Do not care about color or caliber as it will be a donor rifle for another project. Must be a folder though. Happy to send whatever photos needed and will meet in person almost anywhere in TX. I would part with the Ultra Short and spuhr mount as well or trade it for an S&B with Tremor 2 Reticle.

Trump, the rally, and what the hell.

I know I won't be popular for bring up these concerns with Trump, but I really have more concerns about his being a Trojan Horse at this time. Case in point, the rally last night in Iowa where he endorsed another repub dinosaur, grassley. I thought Trump was going to drain the swamp?

grassley, in my opinion has been and still is an anti-Trumper:

https://www.foxnews.com/media/mark-...ting-whistleblower-act-like-a-serious-senator.

So I just don't get endorsing a guy that has been in there forever. Is this the best that Trump and the repubs can come up with?

I admit I have very little clue as to whom would be a better contender to grassley, so feel free to clue me in. I'm to the point of just throwing up my arms and not voting this year and '24. Looks like it will be a rehash of Trump's first term, only worse and more contentious.

Those that want to call me names over this, feel free. I'm hoping that some of you can provide some insights as this is too important an election cycle. Other's can get their clues from this post on SH:

starts with post #28 and gets worse................Good Hunting.

RImfire accuracy and groups

Was having an issue this PM. Had my Ruger out and was doing dot drills--50 yards.

First thing: my scope was off 4 clicks to the left. Odd. 3 shot group confirmed. Click over 4. Back on target.

Then, shot a good 10 shot groups in the dot. Some flyers. Focus. Practice Squeeze.

Then my groups really started to open to where I couldn't hit squat. Very inconsistent. I was using crap ammo (Remington) but if I was shooting 4 MOA i was lucky. I really tried to focus on a good position and could sometimes bring things back, but it was hot and I was getting frustrated.

Weird thing: My 50 yard groups were really really bad today. I brought the 22 as a backup after doing some work on an M1A that I got sorted. So i know I was doing okay with the M1, but the 22 was just ass after those first 20 shots or so. How much does bad head and body position cause a shift in impacts. I was really trying to do excellent shooting fundamentals, to the point where I could see my trace at 50 yards and it still was ass.

I know I was frustrated with scope picture--something with my vision was screwed up today (eyes are getting old), but I can do good groups with e CF rifle, why is this 22 kicking my ass as 50 yards.

Remove barrel for threading?

Been looking for a .223 Tikka T3x CTR forever but they're unicorns. Thinking of getting a Varmint instead and having the barrel threaded, 5/8-24.

2 questions since I've never had it done before:

1. Does the barrel need to be removed from the action to get it threaded? Looking at getting a 24" barrel T3x.
2. Any recommendations for quality work? I don't mind shipping.

I ask about barrel removal because I'm also thinking of getting a pre-fit, so if I have to remove the barrel anyways I'll just go that route. I'd like to keep it simple and stick with the factory barrel if I can, my current Tikka shoots lights out.

Cheers!
