Group Buys "Soft Opening": LRI's Remington Model 7 and Nesika GB

This is just a sneak peek of what we've been working on last few days. First, a little history:

Prior to Remington imploding, the Custom Shop was down the street from me in the Dakota Arms/Nesika building where I worked years ago. In December of 2020, the RCS liquidated a bunch of their inventory and I was lucky enough to be able to buy some of it. A bunch of Model 7 receiver bodies was part of that purchase. They've been sitting on the floor here ever since and I'm basically tired of looking at them. (So is my accountant, lol)

This week I had enough. I had my "blueprinter guy", Derek start working on them. Here is what we're doing:

LRI Tier 1 CNC 5 Axis receiver blueprint service:
  • 8-40 base holes, 4 hole pattern
  • Rear tang hole opened to from 8-32 to 1/4-28 so that it matches the front screw
  • Ejection port resurfaced so that it doesn't look like it was cut with a belt sander
  • Receiver ring threads altered to 1.085-16
  • Higbee lead thread modification
  • Internally chamfered front scope base hole
  • Drilled for LRI pinned recoil lug
  • Receiver ring face resurfaced
  • Lug abutments resurfaced
  • Single stroke diamond-honed receiver bore

That covers the receiver body stuff. I have well over 100 of these things. Bolts however are a different story. When this purchase was made Rome was burning so it was literally a grab what you could situation.

The bolts that we do have will get the following:

LRI Tier 1 CNC 5 Axis bolt blueprint service:
  • Bolt nose resurfaced
  • Bolt face resurfaced
  • Forward side of lugs resurfaced
  • Rear side of lugs resurfaced
  • LRI M16 extractor install
  • Threaded/induction soldered bolt nose bushing to whatever cartridge size the CST asks for
Elective options:
  • Bolt fluting
  • Faceted bolt shroud (CST supplied)
  • Dual ejectors
  • Tac knob installs
  • Time/Tig bolt handle
  • 40x Time/Tig bolt handle upgrade

Just so we're clear on a few things:

These items are NOT YET FOR SALE. PLEASE do not call the shop about this just yet. I will make another formal announcement once were ready. My guess is it'll be a week or so. We are still working on the receivers.

Understand that this sale will be for the receivers, recoil lugs (made by LRI), and the bolt bodies that I have in inventory. We have NO small parts or fire controls for these actions. You are on your own when it comes to sourcing that stuff.

Note also that we are pinning these receivers for LRI MADE RECOIL LUGS ONLY.

Because bolts are in short supply, my plan is to hold off on doing any work to them until the sale is made. This way bolt face diameters can be tailored to whatever you guys decide to chamber these things in.

Give us about a week gents. You all have been asking for this for a while now and we're super close to having it ready to kick off. Not too much longer.

-That covers the "Part One" of this effort.

Part Two is a sale on a metric shit ton pile of Nesika Bay Precision receivers along with a very small quantity of random Nesika bolts. Again, I bought all this stuff when the RCS began to implode. Understand that these receivers will require a bolt that I WILL NOT BE PROVIDING. You are on your own. If you are a home smith, shop, whatever, and feel like taking a stab at a winter project, then this is probably a good fit for you. If you are a Nesika owner already, maybe this can work as a switch bolt, multiple receiver-type build or whatever. I just want to make this plainly stated up front so that there are no misunderstandings. Any hurt feelings here are self-induced. Again, don't call the shop about this just yet as we need to lay em out so that I can get a count and itemize exactly what we have. I do have some small parts for these actions/bolts. I have some shrouds and a few springs/pins, etc. . . We'll go through all that stuff when we announce the sale formally.

Thanks for looking and keep an eye out here in a week or so. Photos are just random pics I uploaded that detail what we do here on receivers and bolts.

C.

Rem 40x repeater

I have picked up a old Remington 40X repeater action complete with bottom metal , trigger. Serial # 310XX B The action is smooth and of coarse it has the clip slot. It does have a couple of cuts that I am not familiar with. A small notch on top of the receiver, I guess for long bullets I am sure, and a notch, round cut at the top of the ejection port. Unlike the standard U cut that all 700's have. The bolt handle is very thin looking also, unlike the bolt handles of today. Maybe I am just not familiar with this old action. Any thoughts.

Would this be a good candidate for a vintage sniper build?

Thanks in advance.

T1x MTR vs. B14r

Looking to upgrade to higher quality rifle from my Savage FVSR, the Savage shoots great but the pic rail was drilled just a hair canted on the receiver making my windage about 3 mils left of all my other guns when I swap scopes and it bugs me, also effects my head placement a little bit. I am going to keep the Savage and put in in a hunting stock.
I am wondering if I should go with the T1x MTR and put it in a Bravo or go with the Bergara in the Bergara adjustable stock?
Can anyone share their experiences? Thanks.

Fight fire with fire.

It seems somonee has started a massive campaign in S. America telling people Biden want s you to come. Just read theyrs another shitload headed this way.

We should start a counter campaign telling them "Yes Joe wants you, so does Nancy, and Diane, and AOC. all the wealthy liberal movie actors. Here are their address's, they want to take care of you. Go directly to their homes and just let yourselves in.

Maybe another to sail 100,000 lepers right up the Potomac to DC and unload them right into the parks.

Dilemma on scope choice

I've been tasked to pick a scope for my nephews 300prc build. It's a graduation gift from his Dad. The rifle is built on a defiance ruckus, Mesa precision stock, Bartlein carbon 26in. The use of the rifle will be for elk mule deer and everything in N/A. He goes to school in Bozeman MT and will have access to shoot as far as rifle will allow....
The budget for the scope is essentially unlimited. I've been looking at VX6 4-24, mk5 3-18, Zeiss V6 3-18, atcar 4-16/5-25, ZCO 4-20. I keep going back and forth between the lighter Leupy and Zeiss vs heavier atacr and zco. If the weight penalty is worth better glass and dependability then I'll go that route. But if it's not that much better then I'll go the lighter options. Any and all advice is appreciated

Reloading Equipment 7.62 LR primers at brownells

Market for Iron Sights

Hi All,
I'm just wondering if people still use iron sights much anymore on centrefire rifles which do not come standard with iron sights (I.e. most bolt action rifles)?

I have had a bit of a look to see what's out there and find that most of the stuff is very expensive with regard to what is involved in manufacturing the product on a mass scale (albeit, if this were only small scale production then the prices make sense).

This got me wondering if the market is big enough to bother trying to design and produce a run of sights that could be fit to any rifle using a picatinny/weaver rail.

There are 2 types I was thinking of:
Sight 1) A universal tangent sight (such as on The Kar98, Ak47, SKS)

Sight 2) A target peep/aperture (sight such as the old Redfields and Parker Hales and the newer RPA sights)
1)
1633490911286.png
2)
1633490859097.png

The main reason for me considering this is because I was not happy with the cost of purchasing a set of decent sights and found there was little available to suit my requirements.

A big problem with the idea is that it would require the buyer to fit the front sight which would require a medium level of skill. It would also require them to know their barrel outside diameter and to work out their bore axis to rail height (as well as their sight radius for the target sights).

I feel like the Sight 1 option would be far more feasible due to lower manufacturing costs, a bigger market (at a guess) and the fact that it would be more universally adaptable. At an estimate, Sight 1 would cost $110 to $175US for both front and rear sights.

Anyway, I would love to hear some people's thoughts and opinions on this. It might sound like a crazy idea but I feel like many of the current options are very expensive for their simplicity and lack of functionality.

Cheers.
