Do I need match ammo at 100 yards? Or is it a waste of money?

Probably a rookie question, but I’m trying to learn whatever I can.

Let’s say I’m primarily focused on practicing my fundamentals and I’m not yet trying to match my rifle and which load is optimal. And I only have access to factory ammo.

I’m shooting a 20” ar chambered in 556, 1:8 twist, stainless bull barrel. I’m using 1” pasters as poa.

If I start at 50 yards, I don’t see any reason to be choosy about the ammo I bring. I mostly shot IMI 55gr fmj and 62gr m855.

I’m going to the range on Friday to continue practicing, but at 100 yards. Again, I’m primarily looking to practice fundamentals and get familiar with the new rifle, but hitting where I’m aiming is one of the primary ways to determine if I’m doing it right.

At a short range like 100 yards, do I need to start bringing higher quality ammo? Or should I expect close to the same results as at 50 yards with the basic stuff?

By “close to the same”, I mean consistency in being able to troubleshoot MY shooting, not extreme accuracy.

Thank you for any advice!!

DI Precision (about post)

I wanted to take a minute to explain what we are about and what our focus and goals are. I am not a gunsmith or a machinist. I AM a shooter(former hot rodder) and everything I do and think is always from behind the rifle. When I started shooting PRS rimfire in 2017 I had no idea what I was doing other than I like to shoot and being competitive I thought this could be fun, my first rifle was a CZ455 and was somewhat disappointed so I ordered a custom 455 and again was disappointed in the accuracy (side note I learned how to reload for precision from David Tubb over text and I got spoiled on what true precision and accuracy were.) When Vudoo came out my first thought was they are crazy, no one will spend that kind of money on a rimfire, shortly after a guy shows up with a Vudoo and promply wears us out with it, so on the way home I reached out to Vudoo to order a barreled action, after talking a bit I asked if they would make me a deal on 2 and Cole countered with buy 3 and I will set you up as a dealer, DEAL I said and that is how all this started. After I supplied pretty much all the shooters at TX precision matches in Navasota we all quickly found the start of feeding issues that Vudoo got famous for. Now looking back we KNOW it was not the rifle but the way we were using them, We added weight and made magazine blockers long before anything was commercially available. One day after the match as we were discussing our problems I thought what if we had a longer heavier barrel, so a text was made to Paul from Mullerworks and he sent down a 1.250 16 twist blank, balance problems solved and we did not lose the accuracy we were getting from the shorter barrels. Fast forward to I think I can make a business out of this. Now the question was never can we chamber and build an accurate rifle but could we do it consistently over and over in a semi-production format? That sent me CNC shopping and after many calls around the country talking with various shops I ended up with a Doosan 2100 LSYB turning center(remember I am not a machinist so I was as lost as can be but I knew that I did not want to handle the barrel twice to tenon/chamber and then cut the slots on a mill, so a steep learning curve ensued). I made a custom jig to hold the barrel in the hydraulic jaws and off to races we went. Below are a few samples of results we have gotten the last couple of years sending in a few at a time to see where we stood. I also included a few from some customers sending theirs in. The point being I want yall to understand that this is a lifestyle choice I made to build and provide the best product that I can make and feel good about selling it. We test each rifle for accuracy at 50 and 200 yards, If I am not happy it doesn't ship until I am confident that it will perform to the customer's expectations.

Not the Onion - Saving Private Ryan dethroned as greatest war film ever

I swear, this is great. I never knew!
I mean, who knew postal duty in England during WWII could be so bad?

Reloading Equipment Triebel 6.5CM Full Length Resizing Die And Triebel Benchrest Seating Die

Triebel Full length resizing die along with Triebel Benchrest Seating die. Creedmoor Sports, the US distributor, is not going to resupply their current Triebel inventory so just wanted to inform anyone interested. I bought the 3 die set from someone on here a week or so ago and wasn’t aware of that so I want to be up front and honest. I assume parts can be ordered from other places in Europe if needed. $275 shipped for both dies and forms of payment are Venmo or Apple Pay. I will sell as a set or individually.

I did contact Triebel directly and was told they would sell directly and one of the issues is the tariff situation. The seating die has the correct stem for 6.5cm and I used it last night to seat Berger Hybrid Target bullets and know it works with Hornady ELD Match also. If for some reason you needed another stem you'd have to order from Triebel if Creedmoor Sports doesn't currently have it.

Schmidt & Bender Polar T96

I'm currently hunting with the Leupold VX5HD 3-15x44 and Meopta Meostar R2 2-12-50. I've always wanted a Polar but it's a lot of money. I'm looking for more light transmission and this is supposed to be one of the best. How much more hunt time will this get me and what magnification and objective would allow me to see in the lowest light? I'm looking at the 4-16x56. All hunting shots will be 300 yards or less.
