Ayn Rand.

Lets see how this goes.

I think a little personal background on how I came to read her is in order, and will explain the thread a bit.

I had see memes with her quotes here and there over the years, spent the 10sec to read them and thought, yup. Then I joined here a bit ago. Originally wanted to do the long range thing, but a standby generator took that money and now I am thinking I am really too old for any real game. At one time I did quite a few games, but I just can't move like I once did, I tried bowling pins but that was just a bore, so now just shoot out back, and the odd starling here and there. So I have come to skim new posts and really hang out in the pit.

Down there more then a few threads had memes with her quotes and such.....ok darn it I will just read her. What to read, well "the" book is Atlas Shrugged.....good night that is a big'en. But I did it, sometimes it could have moved faster, other times I re read a section 3-4 times, it was that interesting.

If you count books finished this year I have read:

Atlas Shrugged
The virtue of selfishness
Anthem
Philosophy who needs it

All of those Rand. I did also read it was a gift after someone found out I was on this kick.

Amusing Ourselves to death.

I have found I enjoy talking about her views on about everything. I think I might find some here that might enjoy it as well. Perhaps this thread will make someone do what I did, pick up one of her books. I knew nothing of her book, no plot no underlying anything, nothing about Atlas. I was blind going in, and that might have been a good thing, zero clue what it was about.

Just hit Chap 18 on Philosophy one thing said in that book, a book that is speeches and papers written by here mainly in the 70's.

There is something that is interesting in that book that I just read this morning.

Words to the effect:

People sense something has gone wrong, they don't know what. This is the price they pay for being the silent and deaf majority. Americans are anti-intellectual, and with the current examples no wonder why. The do however place great value on education and that is now being shaken.

This was written IIRC in 1972. I would love to know what she would say about the world today.

There is another part in this book where a person wrights her a letter asking just what can one man do?

She says talk, don't preach just talk. Even if that is saying I don't agree. There is value in talking there is no value in keeping quiet. If you are silent you agree.

Perhaps that is what I am doing in todays digital world, talking. The folk I hang out with work and home generally have the same mindset as I. There are a few lefties around, yes even in a cop shop, and we have our little discussions back and forth. However they are not as much fun anymore, he is starting to see the light, just like most lefties that can actually think.

Lets see how this goes.

SOLD 2023 Rolex Explorer II WTS/WTT

I was going to list this on Rolexforums, but I figured it might be interesting to hold off for a day or two an see of anyone wants to do a deal for my '23 Rolex Explorer II?

Purchased it new in the Spring of '23, but it's sat on my watch winder almost the entire time. This watch the newer 3285 movement, and it's been running bang on (not losing or gaining any seconds beyond the current time) for the last 3 months that I've been time graphing it in a timing run. Insanely precise for such a relatively small mechanical device! I've owned dozens of stainless steel sports model Rolex watches and minus the ceramic bezel models - they're all built like a tank and can withstand the abuse. ALL of their models are backordered 1-3 years out, depending on the reference and your dealer relationship (can't just go in and buy them anymore).

Open to trades, trades + cash, or selling it outright. I'm not really looking for rifles or ammo, but random things that I would be interested in are good thermal, a 1-10 LVPO, possibly a decent March optic at higher or lower power, ACOGs, an Elcan Spectre, but just let me know what you have and I'll let you know if interested!
On watchrecon.com this reference lists in the $9000's up to $10500 pre-owned, but I can do $8325 in cash, trade, or cash + trade value.

It's a complete set, all links, box, warranty card (international warranty expires 3/2028), manual, both hanging tags (including the one with the serial and model that the Rolex AD's always seem to keep to themselves), and the watch:

The lume is outstanding on these!

Explain the Superlative Arms Adjustable Gas Block to me.

I've got my new gas block installed but I'm trying to understand a couple of the features. It appears that with the adjustment screw turned all the way in, it closes off any gas going through the tube. Then, the starting point is to unscrew it 4.5 turns which allows the full amount to go through the tube with none being bled off. But isn't there a chance to bleed off too much gas such that it won't cycle the bolt fully?

Greetings!

Hello all,
Im new to the forum but not shooting. I used to shoot IPSC and USPSA, reloading as well as armed security and LE work. Ive been out of the shooting game for about 3 years due to an accident. I broke my back and neck which resulted in me having my entire spine fused (im what they call an incomplete paraplegic so I can walk but not real far and not real steady) and now Im in a wheelchair (real life Joe Swanson). y'all will see me post some questions here and there but im mostly here to lurk, learn and look at the awesome pics. Im still a ways pout from shooting rifle but I can start shooting handgun soon (gotta wait 6 months post op to shoot). Thanks for having me and hopefully soon I'll be able to post some pics. Im notify interested in Long range shooting (which I don't have much experience in), Night vision/thermal and helping others with disabilities get into the sport. Thanks guys!

Badger Ordinance M2013 action...can they still be found?

My buddies finally pulled the trigger on a pair of savage chassis guns which kind of lit a fire under my butt to start thinking of building one myself. Ive always loved the M2013 action but I see theyre never in stock on Badger Ordinances website. Are they discontinued? If so how hard is it to come by one? Id prefer to find a short action for 308 or 6.5 creed. I know there are plenty of other actions widely available on the interwebs but i kinda have my heart set on a AI patterened action. TIA everyone! Im new to snipershide and so far Im amazed at how awesome this community is!
