A June 4 post from Why don’t you try this? went a step beyond the homemade mask debate to claim that even the N95 masks used by health care workers are pointless in the face of COVID-19.
“COVID 19 virus particle size is 125 nanometers (0.125 microns); the range is 0.06 microns to .14 microns,” the post said. “The N95 mask filters down to 0.3 microns. So, N95 masks block few, if any, virions (virus particles).”
In other words, the post asserts the virus is smaller than the filter on the N95 mask, so the N95 mask doesn’t work. and that was only one medical review there are 100 more online another of them gave specific numbers to how poorly the normal persons mask (non medicaln-95) did and it's even worse. but if you feel better wearing one and it makes you feel safe then do so by all means . so the .05% might be a stretch but so is masks save lives from infections .

I was going to post an article where they explained that 66% efficacy didn't mean 34 out of 100 people would not get the virus, it meant you had 66% less chance of catching it.

I wore a mask yesterday (hey, I have to use them somehow) to spread a bunch of insect poison around the house perimeter. Every once in a while I'd get a whiff of something. All the while saying to myself...these masks (not an N95 btw) MAY filter out big sneezes but ain't filtering out even this insect stuff as good as I'd wished, let alone a VIRUS that is itself probably close to 1 million times smaller. I never bought into the mask - as soon as we knew it was a virus that was less than 0.3 microns anybody thinking it'd prevent illness was turning a blind eye on MATH and PHYSICS.
I remember one time when I was in the 3-5 year old range. I was not supposed to get my shorts wet, so I put another pair of shorts on, on top of them before getting in the water to keep them dry. On that day I surpassed the intellect of the general mask wearing public.

Probably about twenty percent of the population around here are wearing masks and the vast majority of them have them hanging on their chin.
Wearing a mask and thinking it will reduce your risk of getting covid is like thinking you won't get pee on you in a public pool because you have a bathing suit on.

A n95 will not filter out those chemicals either. Large droplets sure, but you will absolutely smell it.
I learned about masks when I wore a mold mask that was 10 micron, sprayed zinzer binz in a house where it had a fire. I could smell it, all too well, minutes later I spun around and passed out. This was not your typical face mask, it was a 300 dollar replaceable filter and I had no facial hair. Nothing we were told to do regarding face masks was accurate or helped anything other than weak minded people feel better about going into public.
The quickest way to fix all of this is to tell the pro-mask folks that the masks will filter out carbon monoxide because CO is bigger than O.
