Gunsmithing 80% lower finishing options - Pics added post 4

I just completed 2 AR pistol lowers from 80% paper weights. Its abot the only way we can get an AR pistol here in California. Now my dilema is finding someone to anodize them. However, in the meantime I put one in the tumbler to polish it. So far so good, its almost a hard chrome finish. The internals are packed with rags to maintain tolerances, but the outside looks very nice.

Re: 80% lower finishing options

I'd hard coat that thing, the annodize does more than just color it, you're going to want the surface hardness that the hard anno provides in places where the springs touch and all the steel internals move or contact inside for longevity.

Raw AL is very soft, duracoat makes the outside just look nice, hard anno internally makes the thing last.

Here it is all put together and broken in.

I don’t think it’s ostentatious in the least. I think it looks a bit like a SA black stainless 1911 in a way.
