Am about to purchase a Kestrel Applied Ballistics model, and was wondering if any rename finders will communicate with it (via Bluetooth or cable) and feed the Kestrel range and target direction for ballistics computation.

That would be super cool...Just shoot the range and whamo..get your solution.

Thanks for the help, and appologies if I missed another thread with this info on my searches.

Not that I'm aware of. The gunwerks Gseven computes a solution based on pressure/temperature/elevation/inclination/muzzle velocity/BC. I enjoyed mine, always worked, but had to sell it for other purchases.

I looked through the manual and there is no mention of a LRF interface. It has Bluetooth, but that is only for transferring data between the AB software on the computer.

It also doesn't adjust MV for ambient temperature. I use a Nomad with FFS. It will interface with my LRF and adjusts MV for ambient temp. The only downside of the Nomad/FFS solution is price.....around $2100. It interfaces with the Kestrel via BT and the LRF via a special cable. Hitting the enter button updates all firing solutions with current weather data and creating a range card is as simple as ranging targets. It's able to do this because of the gps in the Nomad. It's a more expensive solution, but much more capable.

I think this is one of the things Vectronix was working on with the PLRF-25C, though I'm unsure of the status. That's a crazy expensive LRF (though definitely top-of-the-line) for that option.

Thanks for the replies. Anarchist, are you using the G7 for your LRF?

Negative. I purchased to TruPulse 360R initially, but returned it. The TruPulse 360R is the same as the BR-2, just without the ballistic software. FFS has an interface for the TruPulse 360R. The TruPulse with data cable was just south of $2K. I didn't think it was a good value for that amount of money. I talked to someone who used the TruPulse and they said to forget it past 800 yards. Bought a Vectronix PLRF 05, and then traded up to a Vectronix PLRF 10C in order to get the ability to interface with FFS via a trigger data cable.

The PLRF-25C does have Bluetooth, but the device you're interfacing with, be it Nomad/FFS or Kestrel/AB must have an interface to talk to it.

So the 4500AB won't Bluetooth to a phone running AB

It will interface with the Kestrel because there is an interface. Just saying that any LRF won't interface with any ballistic software. You have to do your homework. FFS only has interfaces for Vectronix Vector and PLRF, Laser Technologies TruPulse, and Newcon. If you go spend $5K on some new whiz bang LRF, it won't work with FFS until the developer writes an interface.

Just because two devices have Bluetooth doesn't mean they can talk to each other. A PLRF-25C can output it's data via BT, but unless the BT-enabled AB software has an interface written to receive and manipulate the data, they won't work together. Just like two people can talk, but if one is talking in Chinese and the other in English, they're talking but they're not communicating.
