2021 Tacoma, got rear-ended on the way home from work, car in front of another car decided they wanted to turn at the last minute. I slammed my brakes but the guy behind me wasn't as fast I guess.
Instead of checking to see if we were ok, dude in front of me left. I guess it doesn't matter, I didn't manage to hit him.
I thought the guy in the Kia was hurt. Took me a few seconds to realize what happened and I heard yelling, coming from behind me. Turns out the other driver was beside my truck freaking out. Nice guy at least, wish I could have met the dude under better circumstances. His airbag went off mine didn't.

Bed is shifted and hit the cab. No longer an even space between the cab and bed. I'm thinking its more of the box and less of the frame. Eh either way, kinda impressed with the Toyota. Wanna take bets if its totaled?

That sucks. It would be good to just have insurance total it and get a new truck but with what used Tacomas are going for they may just try and fix it even if it needs a new frame. Glad you weren't hurt.

I know what you mean about the title to the thread. LOL

Tacomas are nice trucks. Just traded a F250 in a couple months ago and got a Tacoma.

I didn't like as much as my 2011 but I am impressed how little damage it has compared to the other guy. I have a feeling that Hyundai is totaled.

Pray for it to be totaled. Then you can buy it back from them for pennies on the $, put on a new tailgate if necessary, and pocket the difference.

And for that very reason, I always have a hitch and three balls different diameter on there. It really helps limit the damage to my vehicle in the event I get rear-ended. Plus, I'm always towing anyways so it helps to just have it on there.

Exactly, those receivers can take a lot of impact. It's like having an additional bumper back there.

Do they have an estimate on the Kia's speed before impact?

Doesn't look that bad considering. I bought a new 2021 Tacoma, and it feels like an aluminum beer can compared to my 03 Ford Ranger.

Spy photos of the 2022 Tacoma looks ugly. I'd be pissed if mine got totalled and replaced with an uglier model.

Was in an identical accident a few years ago. Car ahead stopped to turn (didn't bother to use the turn lane). The Honda behind me almost made it; clipped the right rear corner. Honda lady demanded the cops find the car that turned and charge the driver. Used water works and everything.

Right? The 22 Tundra also looks stupid. Probably the sharpest looking is the 2020 Tacoma Pro. ….which should have been the look of the 22 Tundra and all Toyota trucks.

I was t-boned by a dumbass kid speeding in the emergency lane. I was in my 16 model f150 with about 8k miles on it. Hadnt had it but about 8-9 months. 21k was the repair bill. I sure thought they were going to total it out but nope. Paid the repair bill.
oh btw. If they dont total yours out get your diminished value from the insurance company. They wont tell you about it.so ask them about it Check the state laws some places wont give you that if it was your fault. From what i read anyways.
i did that with mine but due to the fact that kids ins collision coverage was only25k and the repairs were 21k i only got 4k of the 7k value loss. Attorney friend said that is just the way it is. We could go after the kid for the other $$ and wiuld win a judgement but wouldnt get paid in the end

Just looked, they didn't do a redesign for the 22 Tacoma thank God.
Ah. Ok. I only did a quick search and seen something that looked similar to the new tundra…which looks better than the current tundra, but that isn’t saying much.

@TurdFerguson
Hopefully you don’t get screwed around with repairs/long lead times. 🍻

Have a 4 Wheel Alignment done first! That will let you know if it tweeked the frame/axle alignment. Get it done after the work is completed to make sure the Insurance Company/ Shop did't rear end you too!

Diminished value is a great tool to recoup the money you will not get when you sell your vehicle. Even if they repair everything so that it's like brand new, your truck will never be worth what it's value would be without the accident.

For certain. Mine was appraised at 7k less than if it hadnt been clobbered.

I wouldn’t think it’s totaled. Mine has hit 3 hogs, two deer and a couple coyotes. They keep fixing it. 2014 with 376,000 miles. This thing just keeps going.

Diminished value is something easier said than done. My vehicle got hit and the bill was a little north of $2000--new sheet metal skins and a fair amount of paint. The hitter's insurance was USAA and I had to argue with them about everything, and I mean everything. I just wanted my car fixed... Filed for diminished value and was told to stick it. Their response was the car is going to be fixed and there will be no loss in value. I live in the People's Republic of Virginia and I had no recourse that I could identify. Don't plan on selling the car so the kids can deal with it when I'm gone.

Around here a lot of guys would put duct tape on that and use the insurance money for wine, women, and song. 😉

Sister rolled her Tacoma a few weeks ago. Drove to the house! I think it's gonna be totaled tho 😅
In a previous life I was a teacher. Had a student total 3 cars in less than 2 weeks. Risked his truck by hitting a tree off-roading.
His dad got him and his sister both an Isuzu rodeo.
he totaled his flipping it on a hillside so he used his sisters until he totaled hitting snow drifts.

Dad's 15 silverado was hit and had $13k worth of repairs, was sure hoping they would total it, needed the 5.3 for my sonoma.

Dimishing value got him though, their insurance gave $1200 extra. What a load of shit. They said we could try to go to court and get more but they have some good lawyers.

You should've responded with your dad's back injuries were really beginning to get serious and your lawyers were pretty good too.

Glad your ok. Iffin you want to destroy another one, I’ll loan you my wiffs SR5. I don’t like it compared to my old TRD. Plus once your done smashing it up, I’ll have an excuse to buy a one ton

That is when my head, neck, and back would start hurting and let them know (insert local famous ambulance chasing lawyer) will be calling them, although you may be willing to sign a medical release if you were offered a fair "diminished value amount)

BTW never give any insurance company permission to record your conversation with them on the phone.
Make it very clear that you do not want to be recorded. If they say that is not an option then tell them you will not talk and hang the phone up.

You obviously haven't dealt with insurance companies in the real world.
And you wonder why they are assholes.

I'd be shocked if they total it. Newer truck are almost always repaired. A buddy had a Super Duty a couple years old. His wife rolled it. Every body panel had damage and the fixed it. I think he said that they'll usually fix up to about 3/4 of the total value.

I had a 2019 lease on a Tacoma Off-Road. I still had 9 months left but stopped in to check out a Tundra (wanted a full size to be next) Dealer ate all 9 months raining and traded me out for damn near what the sticker was when I got it and I got a loaded Tundra platinum. No out of pocket and payment only went up about $100/mo.
