Hey all, Ive been working on an idea for a while and finally have it polished enough to share

"Match Coach" is an Apple Watch App that combines the functionality of a SendIt Level, CrushIt Timer, Cosine Indicator, Dope card, and more. I'll briefly break down each feature below, for a more detailed tutorial, check out my write up here... RedPointDev

Timer and Audio Countdown

The primary feature of Match Coach is the Timer and Countdown. You can configure the timer to play audio queues as the timer counts down. Or to verbally say the time remaining in seconds. The app also allows for starting the timer with a specific motion of your wrist or rifle, leaving both your hands free to hold other gear

Rifle Profiles and Note Cards

By setting up a rifle profile (dope and wind) Match Coach is able to auto generate drop tables and wind hold overs. When the watch is mounted to a rifle, the wind readings update live according to your direct of fire

Level, Incline, Compass

The Apple Watch is a great tool for gyroscopic data and the display allows for video game like Heads Up Displays. The customization of color, sensitivity, and readability are second to none with Match Coach

The result of combining all these features together is a full, one stop shop, product to improve any PRS shooters performance in a match

I'll work on getting a quick video showing all these features live. Seeing the screen change colors to indicate rifle cant, the compass heading update as a reference for target direction, and the wind hold overs updating live is really where this app shines

I'm open to any and all feed back or feature requests. This started as a pet project but has turned into something that I use each time I'm at the range and every time I start a stage

All conveniently placed on a screen too small to see...
Unless you have very poor vision, the Apple Watch is very bright in the daytime and the high contrast colors make it easy to see. To each their own but I don’t think visibility is an issue with this.

I fail to realize how does this account for rifle cant? Are you mounting the watch to the rifle somehow? I might have missed it.

Nvm I’m an idiot lol.

I use a 6.6" phone screen as a dope card.

Not sure a .5" watch screen is going to cut it

I created a mount that replaces the watch band. Then you can add a QD receiver on the rifle that connects the two

I'll post a video of the app and mount working together early next week

For now, I have a video showing how the mount attaches here : MountProductPage

Wouldn’t it be possible for you to also give users the ability to install this app on their iPhone? I have a few older ones lying around that could be working great for this?

Being a southpaw, can it be mounted on the right side of the rifle?

Another question: how did you get around the screen timeout? The other app I have goes to sleep in the middle of the stage.
Also, does that mount fold? I have a bad habit of breaking dope card holders. 😂

That has been my biggest frustration. The longest you can set the watch to stay awake is 70 seconds. There is no way for me to get around that programmatically. There’s been conversations with Apple to allow the “never sleep” option but they are worried about battery life

Good news is a quick tap wakes the watch up back into the app

The mount doesn’t fold but the female receiver on the rifle is designed to break first and is easily replaceable. I went with QD instead of Foldable to allow editing settings/dopecards while off the firing line

Foldable mount likely in the near future

Disclaimer for those using the app. I am working through a bug right now that kills the background audio when the watch sleeps for more than 50ish seconds. I'll try and keep a list of bugs (hopefully its short) as they come up

Thanks to those that have already downloaded! Feel free to reach out with any questions on features or for any problems that come up

Finally! A good reason to own an Apple Watch.

Would be nice to be able to import or connect to a Kestrel to get environmental data as well.

Perhaps even a Garmin Xero or read the Garmin csv file export.

@montec43 hey brother ran it in a match yesterday. Just a couple points of feedback.

Can you make the start button a little bigger? When you have to start all gear in hand it’s a little small to find.
Also, is there any way to make the audio louder specifically for the countdown? Might be a watch limitation but I wear double ear pro while shooting and it’s a little hard to hear on a busy firing line.
I do really think this is a solid foundation tho and can’t wait to see the progress.

RE : Small start button

Here's what I came up with as a solution to the start button being too small...

When you tap the start button (need a better name for it now), the entire screen becomes a "Tap to Start Timer" button, allowing you to tap anywhere on the watch to start the timer (even the light gray areas)

And if you didn't mean to hit play, you can cancel by scrolling the crown up a few times (a bar will show "cancel progress")

I think this covers your use case pretty well. Just hit start button before picking up gear, then just tap anywhere on the watch to start the timer

This even works if the watch face sleeps when picking up gear, just need to double tap, the first one will wake up the watch, second will start the timer

RE : Louder Audio

The volume is a watch limitation, nothing I can do about that

I've been wanting to add haptic queues (vibrate) that would go along with the audio but haven't tested it yet

I've been hesitant to try because I can see that throwing off shots if it vibrates at the wrong time. But maybe the vibration doesn't transfer to the rifle if the watch is on your non-firing hand? I'll test this out soon

This app has me excited! I enjoy gadgets and tech in general, so I went and purchased a used Apple Watch SE 2nd gen and the app rather than a bubble level and compass for the rifle I’m getting setup for next years .22 PRS season.

I’m in the process of setting up the app and exploring its features. I did run into a snag where I didn’t enter dope and couldn’t get back to enter the data. I had to force quit the app and lost the settings I’d made - thankfully not many!

The screen timing out is certainly annoying! I hope there is a solution for that. I also tried to order the parts to mount the watch on my rifle, only to find I couldn’t complete the order as I’m in Canada… also hoping for a solution!

Thanks and keep up the good work!
