Ingenuity Precision trickler

Just to offer a slightly different perspective....personally, I don't care that the powder hopper and this new wind screen are some what opaque, 3D printed parts.

It was ages and ages ago I worked for a short time with a company that made motorcycle peel-off's, visors, etc. with very large plastic injection machines. They made their own molds. It was a lot of $$ to have a mold made and a lot of dollars to maintain them and was only justified by the large quantities that were being produced and sold.

I don't blame this fella Paul for not jumping on the injection molded bandwagon from the start (and if ever). While we, on SH, are more than willing to spend this kind of dough on a powder measure system, what is the realistic market size for a product like this?

IMO, it sure as fuck isn't the average deer hunting community member, the population of which drives the bulk of rifle and ammo sales. Even including all rifle target sports participants, we are still (again, IMO) somewhat of a small niche market.

Some enterprising person may come up with a glass powder hopper at some point....but to me, its a non-issue.

Personally, I'm looking for rock solid, accurate, repeatable, and fast performance from a well integrated system/scale and if this thing ever gets released it looks like its my huckleberry.

I'm not saying others are wrong about their dissatisfaction with the 3D printed parts, we are all entitled to our own opinions (even if they are wrong! ;-) hahaha).

I just have a different view and my list of priorities for a powder drop system does not have optically clear molded plastic parts anywhere near the top.

Cheers
Yep, totally agree!

^ but this was sometime ago. The ability to manufacture things made of plastic has changed dramatically. Case in point: Despite all of their foibles, the super trick guys pulled it off and at a price point 25% lower than this gizmo.

I would rather have something that looks like a polished product rather than a 3-D printed science fair project, but like you, my priorities are fast and accurate so I will take it

Is... is it happening??
Nah. Just our 8th consecutive monthly-installment of "start shipping next month" announcements. 🤣

We have enough information now to plot the error in Paul’s estimates

I’m not gonna waste my time on Excel, but suffice it to say that whatever remaining time he estimates, you should double, triple or even quadruple it as a rule of thumb.

The initial estimates were off by a factor of four and then three and I’m guessing now two so I think NyQuil is right and the earliest orders ought to be looking at Halloween

So is the hold up the molded hopper? Just get dram worx hoppers and print an adapter?
I’ll look in the mail for my free unit for solving this dilemma. 😂

Just wait for F Class John's 3rd "It's here!" video, then add 6 months.

The last update said "shipping end of September." Well, we're technically in the end of September, and no further information has been forthcoming, which can only lead one to believe it is yet another failure to deliver. @Ingenuity1, or even @NICETRY (I realize it isn't your job, but you seem to have the inside scoop), how about leveling with us and tell us what the problems are, and what realistic expectations are? We all can understand the unforeseen problems that might occur in bringing a new product to market, but to be told over and over again that it will be shipping "next month" for nearly a year is wearing thin. It's time to be up front with all the potential customers who have, for so long, been holding on to their money waiting for this product when they could have purchased a competitor's product long ago and moved on. You still have us on your side for now, but for how long? TELL US what the problems are, and a realistic timeline to resolve them, then keep it UPDATED, and it will buy you a surprising amount of patience in the potential customer base. But to continue to make failed projections month-after-month for nearly a year is going to cause them to start jumping ship. At this point, having videos out there nine months ago proclaiming "It's finally here!", and two months ago, "Here it is, the final production version as it will ship!" is hurting more than helping.

I see nothing has changed since last year. This is an exact repeat of the tricklers.

He doesn’t seem to appreciate the value a minuscule amount of communication can have with his clients while blowing through deadlines. (Regardless of deposit)
Wow, Maury...I knew that at some point we'd agree on something! ;-) lol

Yeah, I don't get it. Just a single message, once a month even. Like, don't be embarrassed or whatever that it's not ready, we understand that you want to put out a good product and this is not easy (none of us have done it). I get that it's frustrating, but understand that you've got a lot of customers just sitting in the dark. A little bit goes a looooong way.

I think he may learn a hard business lesson that a large number of the preorders will not convert into sales due to him being so late and totally uncommunicative. I don’t have a pressing need, but if I have to wait till deep into next year, I will likely find another solution.

LOL, every single whiner in this thread are still going to buy a unit when IG releases them.

Ok, yeah communication is a bit lacking, but let’s be real here. A no-money pre-order is by definition a gauge of interest, it is a pretty good one actually. As for the pre-order conversion rate, last one I heard moving forward, they expected a 50-60 percent conversion. I am not expecting miracles but would like but more communication, but hey I am not out anything.

To be fair I have no doubt it will be the best unit on the market by and far when it hits and that will keep it alive

I'm definitely gonna order one. I just like coming here to whine, so I can see tougher/more patient/superior folks come whine about me whining and brag about how they don't get emotional because they read Marcus Aurelius or something. Then I whine about them whining about me whining.
It’s the perfect balance

I think I am going to pass on it when it finally does get released. Had it been released 6 months ago I would have jumped all over it. I have a very early pre-order. One of the first 25 pre-orders as best as I can tell.

I used a Chargemaster for years, then finally bit on the V4. Then the Supertrickler came out, and I had to have it. Then the IP was announced and I sold the ST off so I could get the IP. I waited so long for the IP to release that I ended up getting a used ATv3 instead, and honestly it works great for me. As awesome as the IP teaser videos make it out to be, I just don't have a desire to mess around with the latest and greatest powder trickler anymore. I don't think it will be as problem free as everyone thinks, and the lack of communication and clarity regarding the unit is a big drawback for me. Maybe some of these late design changes are due to actual testing of the unit? I sure hope someone is testing the living crap out of it....but I know most beta testers are only in it because they want the latest and greatest toy to play with, are friends with the designer/developer, or they are invited because of their reach on social media.

I also wonder what the long term support and parts availability will be like when there are this many problems getting it to market in the first place.

I can understand that, on your last point I suspect that the very same question would apply to the V3/V4, SuperTrickler and any number of shooting related products.

Owning and using the IP trickler (the OG "powder measure" component as they call it) has saved me from immeasurable pain and anguish over the last 2+ years... it's so much more than just the "latest and greatest". Chargemasters, MatchMasters, Auto-Tricklers, and the SuperTrickler, etc all suck donkey dick in comparison. 😝

Once you've gone a while with every round you shoot being within the nearest kernel of the next, with virtually no overcharges or wasted time while loading, you can't/won't go back.

You are correct, it applies to those companies, and lots of others. The difference is the communication to current and potential customers. Paul will call and sell you on the system for an hour (literally, I had a question. It turned in to an hour long phone call). But, he wont keep anyone in the loop regarding updates, timelines, etc. and that has driven me away.

It sounds like you have found a great solution...for you. This includes the powder types you use, and the acceptable tolerances you are using. The problems surface when someone else gets one, and they don't use it in the same manner as all the people singing its praises.

I will be interested to see what happens when LOTS of people get these, and they start uncovering the unforeseen issues with it. Stuff like:
It wont meter fine pistol powders well, or it hangs up on extruded powder xxx. Motors overheat, tolerances are too tight, or too loose, the drop becomes inconsistent as powder level in a hopper changes, static charge and its affect on the scale, etc.

These are all things other tricklers have battled, and I hope Paul has tested and mitigated all these scenarios.

A lot of what you're saying doesn't even make sense. A Porsche 911 isn't great for picking up studs from Lowes, that's why we use trucks for shit like that.

My acceptable tolerances for my precision rifle stuff are simple: as tight as I can get.

Pistol powders? Who fucking cares. If one is loading pistol rounds one at f'ing time they're a f'ing idiot. Pistol rounds get loaded on a Dillon (or other progressive press) and the powder droppers on those are just fine for ~3-6ish grains of pistol powder. All my pistol rounds are loaded with assorted headstamp crusty range pickup brass and I get SDs of ~2-5 without even trying, pumping them at a clip of ~800-1000rds per hour.

There are already a lot of IP tricklers out there (you can use it by dropping the bulk charge manually like I've been doing, or use it to resurrect an Auto-Trickler, and buy one right now) and they've been working fine, I've loaded somewhere near 10,000rds on mine without having to change a single thing, not a spring, not a screw, nothing. This is mostly with Varget (fairly notorious for being difficult on powder droppers) and Shooters World Precision Rifle (like Varget, but with even more irregularly sized kernels). Yeah, it hangs up for a second every once in a while, when it happens all I do is just reach over and give the hopper a quarter-turn, and voila, back at it, no problem.

I can understand guys complaining about the wait and lack of communication from IP... but don't shit on the product when you're out of your depth and don't know what you're talking about. It's lightyears ahead of everything else out there.

Guys are going bitch about waiting, but every f'ing one of them are going to buy one anyway and wonder how they lived without it.

My v2 auto trickler throw chokes on ball powder too, good thing they’ve caught up to the last decades tech.

Not everyone uses ball powder exclusively for loading pistol dude, see all of the new powders that are staball, cfe etc. I’m sure as hell not going to invest in a throw that can’t use the modern developments now.

Yeah that's true, ball powders are pretty popular for rifle, but the IP works great with ball powder. Obviously I don't know about the new thrower, but the trickler I've been using for staball, 2520, and TAC and its absolutely outstanding. You can literally get it to the little ball flake even after the stops due to it being to .02gr if you want to. You can drop a single ball flake if you so choose. The trickler part is definitely proven.

Now as to the timeline and delivery there of.... some communication would likely put some at ease but honestly, until it's ready to ship, I don't really care if he tells me of all the crap he's dealing with or not. His product is proven and he's personally reached out to me to answer questions ect , more than once so, I'm pretty confident that he will be there should there be any issues. Of course, he's very thorough so I don't believe there will be any issues. Guess we will see at some point.
