16-18 inch shorty rifles

Not sure what bullet you are using, or your target game animal... I would assume 140's given your Superformance velocities?

An awesome load for shorties is the 95 VMax over 8208 XBR (if you were able to get in on the recent shipment of 8208 that was available). 39.8 gr generates 3150 from a 22" barrel, and should stay around ~3000 fps from a shorter barrel.
130gr Berger OTM on whitetail.

That’s impressive velocity.

16.5” 22CM build. Heading to Wyoming this Friday for a mule deer hunt for its maiden voyage. Getting 3150 from 75gr ELD-M’s. So pleased with it I am building a twin to dedicate to night hunting. The Falkor LW7 is the craziest smooth action I’ve ever felt. Feeding is incredible.

Love the cerakote color on that rifle. Well done!

87gr V-max

I’ve tried N150 I got to top viht load with poor obturation

RS62 42.7gr only 2700fps grea lt accurate load but I was hoping to get 3000fps

My barrel is a bit longer than 18” allowed on the shorty thread… but still short for a 6mm creedmoor

Just thinking aloud.... Looking at the estimates given by Gordons Reloading Tool software, Vihtavuori max loads seem a little conservative. Another grain of N150 maybe? Of course, this is just an estimate, so approach with caution.

Thank you for taking the time to use Gordon’s. At the time I got the crazy results on my brass; soot around the rim only, I had some help from some guys in the U.K. according to QL the viht figures were vastly underrated. I changed to RS62 and was in between chronos when I found the sub half MOA load so haven’t re-visited the N150. I suppose it won’t harm to climb the data slowly at the same time trying some N140 and I have just been given half a pound of N160.

Viht powders are readily available in the U.K. and 4350 banned or it would be my go to.

Trying to put together a budget setup for some deer and hog hunting. Have right at $2K into it so far.

Is this barreled action from Brownells? How is the accuracy? Tossing around the idea of getting back into a bolt rifle next year or two and the barreled actions appear to be a good starting point.

They are great rifles. If you wait for them to go on sale, you can snag one for ~$379ish.

The action has integrated recoil lug. The bolt is made from one piece and has m16 extractor. Most who have taken them apart to work on them claim they're always pretty consistent and don't need truing. For the price, it's great.

This was mine with the factory barrel still on.

15 rounds under an inch. 14 would have been 3/4

Yes, it is but I have not put any rounds through it yet. I got it on sale for $335.66 to be exact. I plan on getting a 6.5 CM next time on sale.

Probably one of the more unique builds I've done. This was originally a 22" 308 that sat in a McMillan A5 and then a KRG Bravo. I realized that I rarely do distance shooting, so it might make more sense to size down. Was hoping to get it to fit in a tennis bag, but it's just slightly too long.

JTAC Ind. Screech Owl Chassis
PVA 16.5" 6.5cm Med Palma
Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x42

Sitting at ~11lbs with everything. Might try a cf barrel in the future to shed some weight.
This is slick! One of these days I will do a build off that chassis, not sure on that collapsing stock though.

Running a TBAC Ultra 7 with NF NX8 4-32. Hawkins 1 inch high rings, Cole-Tac suppressor cover. Bought the Zeus and Proof from FrontRangePrecision.

While much less exotic, figured this thread could use a classic. T3X Ranch Rifle. Currently has a Dead Air Primal on it, but will be getting a Griffin Sportsman UL to lighten it up even further. Scope is a Ten Mile 3-18 FFP which despite its length is actually quite lightweight.

Very nice. What is the weight difference between a common CF barrel vs a SS barrel at this length?

What does that rifle weigh?

Just finished throwing together this general purpose, critter gitter, plinking, fun gun. Howa 16.25” 6.5 Creedmoor heavy barreled action from Brownells. Pillar and glass bedded into a Boyd’s At One stock. Mounts and optics a mixed bag of leftover Seekins rings, Leupold 20MOA rail and a 3-15 SWFA. Hoping to push 130 ELD-Ms to 2500-2550.

Debating on which cartridge to build a low recoil shorty. We have a 1000y range and a good amount of 6.5cm and larger caliber rifles. Application for this rifle will be different. The goal is to shoot TINY groups on papers and to put rounds on steels out to 700y. Balance is important as most of the shooting is positionally. Here is my thinking:

223: Reloading the smaller case brass is a bit of a chore.
6 ARC, 22 ARC: Lack of quality brass, only Hornady and Starline available.
6.5G: Norma brass avail. Slow but the 100g VT (meh bc) is out there.
6BR/Dasher: More recoil. Plenty of reloading components avail.
22GT/CM: Short barrel life. I would like to get 2k or more out of a barrel.

Help me get this right? What am I missing? What am I wrong with?

Have you thought about a 224 valkyrie?

I have a few different actions but yet the 224 Valk bolt/bolt-heads for the actions that I have is pretty much non-existent. What are some benefits are you seeing from the 224 Valk over a 22BR or 22ARC in a shorty?

Brass and components are cheap and good, I run Starline brass but I have a 26" 6.5 twist barrel. its an awesome round, I also built a 6br and the dope for the 2 are identical out to 800m. another plus would be better feeding, my Valkyrie feeds nicer then the Br, could be the 2 different actions. I cant speak for 22 arc or Br since I haven't even looked at there numbers. A 16" Valkyrie with a 7 twist would be wicked shooting 60gr class bullets. MDT makes polymer mags, but I bought MDT 6Br Metal mags and adjusted the feed lips. can get 12 in a 10 and 14 in a 12 rounder.

That's good to know. We typically shoot steels out to 1000y so I'm looking mainly at the 88eldm for the high bc. Anything less than 80g and we'll have tough time seeing impacts. I have a 18" AR shooting 77g 5.56 and it's great to about 700y. The round can impact steels regularly at 800y but its tough to see the impacts.

2867, I'm using 26.4gr cfe223. I have loaded them hotter with good results but I decided to keep it simple. No need to load hotter and longer.
That looks similar to what a 22ARC is pushing the 88g ELDM loading with a moderately charge out of a 24in barrel. For my use, I would either run the 22ARC at 20in to get 2720~2750fps for the actions with .441 bolt. But for a shorty, a 18in 22BR pushing the 88g eldm at ~2860 is nice.
