This all stemmed from the H1b visa.
He had the wrong type of visa. There’s nothing wrong imo with poaching skilled people from the globe..but why would you make unlimited visas for people if all you need is a few super skilled engineers or such?
Really it should be an increase for an 01 visa.

When it’s all said and done, if our issues are not fixed this term, or on the way, we are screwed. I work with US educated college graduates and foreign raised/educated college graduates and the latter are more enjoyable to work with. No DEI nonsense, no radical leftist agenda, no political misconceptions, no agendas, no less than the best option ideologies and other than the language barrier (most likely because I am a backwoods ignorant asshat), they are far easier to tolerate, they don't run to HR at every perceived injustice, they don't have a my way or highway mentality, they truly want to learn, help and push for the best solution for the situation. They are far easier and more open to ideas other than their own, even if it goes against their training or beliefs. If you can explain it, translate it to a language(conceptual idea) they understand, they get on board pretty quick. 30yrs of dealing with the same issues repeatedly tires you very quickly, especially if you are constantly repeating those same mistakes just so someone can "see for themselves" it doesn't work.

It should be the top of the top... The best five or 10 percent...Not desk workers. If they want those folks, open subsidiaries in India and Taiwan. Nothing stopping those folks from working remotely. Great! Let them do so. But not here... on a system that, as you say, is being UTTERLY abused.

90 percent of the H1 visas (probably 95 percent) are being given out, as you say, for cost cutting. That is bullshit and not how it's supposed to work. Blame lots of folks. And by all means, get rid of the cheap labor. Start with the chamber of commerce. And with F-500 companies who just want to scrape a few extra cents on to their quarterly stock reports. Instead of build companies that contribute to our GNP. And the "N" in that is NATIONAL. Not fucking Global.

I have some personal experience here. I have a 30+ year IT career and I was once replaced with a cheaper Indian person. Anyone that is saying this doesn't happen lives in "theoretical world" and not the real world.

These H-1b s are not the best of the best of the best. The abuses being posted on these are posted all over X and in fact one of the is X’s accountant. They found a plumber in San Diego, making 26K.
These are largely underpaid indentured servants.
It is 0-1 visa is the visa for extraordinary talent.
All this is public information and the salaries that they are posting for these positions are ludicrous. If these people are really that valuable, they should be paid a minimum amount and that would keep these companies from pulling this crap.
No one’s complained more about education system here in this country than me, but farming out our work permanently to an influx of Indians is not the answer.. if Indians is so great why isn’t New Delhi the new Silicon Valley?

I've been making a living in computers since the 80s.
People who don't understand the eco-system refer to it all as "IT" but that's really about the same as calling every job in the health arena as "medical". Referring to both the guy pioneering neurosurgery techniques and the one stitching a bo-bo in the ER as "medical" workers is accurate but not descriptive. When I was developing drivers for storage/network products or writing code for pipeline/factory SCADA systems people would ask me what I did and if I tried to explain it to them their eyes would glaze over and they'd say "Oh, you're in IT." conversation over.
Maybe about 90% of my career has been on the development side creating new solutions and in those environments I have worked next to very few imported or visa fueled employees. A lot of these jobs are still this way, especially at startups or places creating/developing new technologies or solutions. But this does not represent the majority of the "IT" job market. When your Windows system acts up and you call support the guy who answers the phone and says "I'm tinking you may need to be trying to turn the power off for 15 minutes I will wait ..." is an "IT" worker.
Once a product was stable and deployable manufacturing and support work shifted mostly to India or Asia. Computer manufacturing at scale was mostly phased out of the US in the 90s in favor of cheaper labor overseas. As each product, software or hardware, went through the normal lifecycle the ratio of US to Indian/Asian workers shifted quickly to a larger number of visa and overseas workers until it neared EOL and virtually all the workforce became cheap labor. It's not uncommon to see an org chart at a HP, Dell or any of the others with a US based manager that has 60 or more direct reports in India/Asia "supporting" a mature/EOL product.
This has been the natural progression for every industry since textiles moved to China. Even before electronics and everything else started offshoring in the 60s. Offshoring is nothing new and it will not end.
Currently I'm on the side of computing which most people in the field consider to actually be "IT". It's the part of the game where storage, compute and network infrastructure is selected, deployed and maintained. It's boring as fuck-all and it's flooded with cheap labor from India and Asia. None of those jobs are coming back to America, ever.
Most of the infrastructure where I'm working now was "designed" and "architected" by consultants from the companies selling it (NetApp, ECS, AWS, VMware, etc.) and a few company people in architect/leadership positions who sign off on the design/solution. Once it's deployed it's kept running by a workforce that is at least 80% offshored and only capable of following steps in playbooks to address issues like failed disks/volumes, failed switches/ports, yada-yada, blah-blah. When they run into a problem they've never seen before it creeps up the ladder to people like me (some of whom are also offshored) and tech support from the solution provider, some of which is offshored as well.
A huge portion of "IT" jobs are essentially unskilled or slightly skilled labor and the industry has priced itself out of the US job market.

My initial thoughts
Short term:
My veterinarian is a fantastic lady. She graduated from Princeton in Engineering. After she got her engineering degree she decided she didn’t wanna do engineering anymore . She decided to be a veterinarian. So she went to Colorado university and got her veterinarian degree.
I spoke to her about women not wanting to be engineers as much and she told me that by the time her class had graduated all but one male had dropped out and the rest of the graduates were female. The class had started out with more men.
Short term:
- Revamp H1B wih strict parameters
- Min salary requirements
- No hiring for plumbers etc.
- Allow worker flexibility to move to other companies after 1 year so they are not intention servants.
- Cut the number of H1B visas dramatically and perhaps look at increasing 0-1 Visa
- Fix our goddamn education system. I’ve laid out some of those ideas in another thread.
- Do everything we possibly we can to bring white men back out of the catastrophe that we have pushed them into with DEI. Make being a male and yes, a white male great again. I’m not talking about white nationalism, but we should be able to be just as happy and proud of ourselves as any other race out there. White men built this country and are the backbone of this country. White men went to the moon.
- Stop with the feminist Incel trope. Just because you’re not getting laid by the modern mutant female hoard doesn’t mean you’re not a valuable asset to our community. Fucking is not the only thing that determines your value.
