This whole thing brings up a series of questions in my mind.
If Elon has such a hard-on for immigrants, why didn’t he go to their countries to start businesses? Because that’s not where the money is.
If Elon has government contracts and is part of Trump’s inner circle, what are the odds that he will get legislation passed to get his desires and profits? How is this any different than using lobbyists to influence?
Elon has Trump’s ear. What Elon wants he will get. It may be watered down, but it won’t be a complete rejection. I fear a new deep state in the making. Elon should not be that close to the presidency with all the government contracts, it’s a conflict of interest.

AI is going to replace far more people than just those in IT, it’s simply a matter of time. Those that praise this stuff are too shortsighted to see how this plays out in the long term. I just hope I can get another 20 years in till retirement before it takes over. I have no idea what to tell my kids to get into. I’d say programming or something in computer science lol but apparently those jobs are gonna be replaced by cheap Indians, if not overtaken by AI first. And those that think their jobs are too high and mighty to be replaced by AI are sadly mistaken. There is tons of jobs that I can totally see AI taking a large market share of. It’s literally just a matter of time. And all these idiots so willing to use i fail to realize that their use of it is teaching/feeding it exactly what it needs to learn how to replace them.
No one gets as rich as Elon is without being very close to government in some way. He is NOT an outsider. Being surprised that he works hand in hand with the deep state is a logical failure. Anti-Christ figures are very attractive, not fringe crazies.

I am a career IT guy (wide variety of areas), been in it since DOS 3.0, I would be able to retire early if shit really hit the fan now, but there are still plenty of IT jobs that need humans at this point.
I have some experience with Indians taking over IT jobs, and also with AI taking over IT jobs. I will say both have their flaws, at least for now. The problem area is cost savings and if your company management is more worried about cost savings than the problems the flaws introduce.
I have advised my kids to do something else for a living. My older daughter is in medical, my younger daughter will graduate this spring with an engineering degree (and hell yeah, I am heading back to 'Bama in 2025)
Just don't go into weak career paths that can be done by anyone with a pulse.
Elon is trying to buy profitability for his companies. There is a ton of conflict of interest here. He isn't trying to protect Joe Sixpack, as evidenced by his H1B comments - he doesn't care about that. He cares about using DOGE to get regulation out of the way of his companies.
His profitability and reputation depend upon the defense contracts and public company endeavor successes. If that goes away he becomes little more than a worldwide rags-to-riches-to-rags joke. This whole idea that Elon is as pure as the wind driven snow is a fallacy.
this is so true and has been so easy to see comps replacing people well before AI. look at check out at most large retailers. they now all have self check out. people are too stupid to understand who that puts out of work-not those brainy programmers! ultimately gets a lot of people with lower level tools for success onto welfare etc. that is part of the goal-dependence on gov.
of "high end jobs" that are a setup for AI are family practice and internal medicine. for the last 10+ tears they DO nothing. sit in the chair,ask a few questions and push meds. they don't do or prob don't remember how to do a physical exam,if they ever knew. if doing anything is required,they refer it out. this observation is universal from anyone of any age i have spoken to in years. the current corporate,protocol driven way is a setup for non human,machine driven work. get some data,apply a protocol-done!
Your last paragraph is spot on. It’s one of the positions I was alluding to. Yes, I could totally see lots of healthcare stuff becoming more automated. I already got ideas but no clue how to pull it off. Architects, even engineering to a large degree could be done by AI. Architecture especially, could be done faster, better, greener and cheaper.

One thing I have not heard by anyone is that H1B visas are being used to augment the low birth rates of the US citizens. Remember when Biden and Schumer said that illegals are necessary to offset the lack of births? I am rather convinced that the H1B visas are being used to do the same thing, just legally. And there is an argument to be made that H1B's that actually work would be preferable to illegals. That doesn't change the fact that the real issues go unaddressed, like laying off Americans for the H1B's, our failed educational system, etc. It needs to be reformed.

Having retired from over 40 years in commercial construction, I can tell you that in the last few years it's been tough to attract young people to the building trades. Many construction jobs cannot be done by just "anyone with a pulse" that's one reason why we have apprenticeship programs. The big problem in this country is that the teacher unions and the libs have practically eliminated any kind of trade/craft training programs so we are ending up with kids who are whiz-bang experts with their laptop, video game and cell phone but don't know which end of a screwdriver to hold.
Most construction jobs require not only physical skills but a lot of planning, math and other thinking skills. Also, for example, a journeyman union sheet metal mechanic easily makes a six-figure income.

- GRE + Toefl or IELTS tests (post covid, lot of Indians pay someone else to take the test for them - thus better scores and admissions)
- University sends I-20
- F-1 visa interview (no questions related to the field of study. This happens very rarely and most of them fail to answer technical questions).
- If visa approved, they come here.
- Post graduation, they apply for OPT (1 year) and during this time the actual talented ones will work hard to get a job on their own (I’m talking 5 or 10 out of 100 students). Rest of them go to a consultancy that runs a fake payroll, creates a fake profile for the student, markets it, and gets them a job. They take 30% commission every month.
- Then the students apply for Stem OPT (2 more years).
- Every student gets three turns to get a company to sponsor their H1b visa. (OPT + Stem OPT - 3 years).
- If their application doesn’t get picked three times, some go back to school on a CPT which technically allows them to work. So they can keep their job.
- Some are really cunning and apply for asylum in liberal areas because they know that the judges will approve. I personally know a guy (was an atheist but became a devout Christian when he needed a green card lol).
- Very few understand what USA is about, love it, own it, assimilate into it, and will even die for this great nation.
