  • You Should Now Be Receiving Emails!

The email issued mentioned earlier this week is now fixed! You may also have received previous emails that were meant to be sent over the last few days - apologies, this was a one time issue and shouldn't happen again!

I need a new email service?

I have been using the same email for over the past 20 years. It was actually from a TV / ISP service that I not longer have. Their mail server is antiquated at best leaving me unable to send emails from mobile devices most times off wifi and even on some wifi connections. What is the email server of choice for Hiders?

I have a mainly MacOS eco system but do have MS Office Suite as well as the mediocre at best Google Wifi Mesh. (will be updating to Orbi something here soon).

Servers I am considering:
  • Gmail - it's widely used, have an account / email from Youtube / Google Home.
  • iCloud- obviously due to MacOS/iOS ecosystem.
  • Office365
Others I should consider?

IMO, fuck “clouds” which is just your data on someone else server. Nice solid state external hard drive to send your backups to then no need for “cloud”.

I use gmail app on my phone and connect Outlook as a full featured mail client for my gmail acct on home PC. Or just just gmail web interface….depends on what you do w email.

Gmail. There is no “secure” email. Just like there is no secure snail mail, online privacy, or reason to use Office365 for anything.
I laugh about the need for secure mail.

You want secure email. Send the output from a 1-time pad. Otherwise, you're delusional.

I just want to be able to send / receive email reliably from my mobile device. When it comes to security I wouldn't be surprised if gmail isn't much more secure than the old tv/isp server that sucks and doesn't work half the time.

Hahahaha. Nothing you do on your “mobile service” is secure or private. At least Gmail works reliably, every time, filters spam, and isn’t rejected for other people’s inbox for being suspicious af. And regarding “the cloud” and having a “super-Dooper solid state hard drive for backup”? How do you figure you can search your inbox and find an email from 2 years ago? That’s not coming from your hard drive.

Every keystroke, every message, every search, every porn, every webpage, every email, every ebay purchase, everything. It’s out there. Forever. Searchable, subpoena-able, for sale among the data hungry. Get used to it. Act accordingly.

Old ISP has a forward option. IF it works it is taking minutes to send as I still haven't gotten an email from ISP to Gmail account. Unless the test email I sent from Gmail to ISP will screw with it... I was sorta hoping for that to work so I could update email / account info as needed not try to remember it all this weekend.

I don't use iCloud for anything currently. I have a home server that is where all our data / movies are stored. I too do use outlook on the one windows Desktop I have. Currently the MacOS/iOS mail app is working well. That said this wasn't about cloud space / security more just being able to send a damn email out and about from a brand new phone (it did work on the old one either)in 2025. I suspect the Gmail work just fine for my emailing needs. I mean really it's 2025 how many people cannot send an email from their phone?

About 10 years ago my good friend moved with his family to Guam for a contract. We stayed in contact primarily via email. He used Outlook and I used Gmail.
One of our interactions involved his fairly young kids adopting a stray dog. Just a large mutt of unknown mixed breeding. He was amazed at how smart that dog was.
I replied that my mini dachshund was also quite smart. He knew about 200 word of English. Amazing since his brain could not be much larger than a golfball. Should have named him Titleist or Calloway.

I have not golfed since I was dating a gal from South Africa in college who was a scholarship golfer. She kicked my ass every single time. I have never really been interested in golf, not as a sport, not as a pass time, not at all, not ever. I do not look for golf related gear on the web. I do not read golf related stories. I do not click on golf related anything, ever. I don't have any friends that golf.

Guess what started showing up in my Google based browser? Yep...golf ads.

I bought a Protonmail subscription. I cleared out my Gmail account over the course of a couple of weeks. I deleted and/or uninstalled anything Google related and refuse to use anything Google owned or operated. I use Firefox and DuckDuckGo and Proton VPN. If it really mattters, I am 100% Apple/Mac with my personal gear (including phone) and only use a Windows machine for work.

I have not had any targeted golf ads since. I have also not any targeted ads for shooting gear or fishing gear or hunting gear and I peruse sites related to those activities all of the time.

+1 for Protonmail, works great from every device and every place.

Proton.me is great, the encryption carries over to the phone also if managing emails off the cell . If anyone is using a 'free' email service, there is nothing for free, and you are the product they are selling.
I just got onto Proton this year after my mail service was sold to Yahoo. Fucking Yahoo is just a pop culture circus performance that banks every key stroke you make.

Gmail works, but reads all your emails ("for advertising purposes")
Also if you have a common email, other people's shit gets sent to you and no matter how hard I try I cannot get off their bullshit lists (although I got a shit ton of hilton honors points).

Remember their is Outlook the "application" and Outlook the "email server". Its pretty much a wash. Any email "application" will do, the trick is finding a good "server" I don't like sending my data to google for free--they don't pay me **** for it. And they hate conservatives.
