Making 12.7x48mm (.510 Whisper) Brass without a Lathe

I know this is a really old thread but could I get more info on that can? material? dimensions? are those baffles just threaded to each other? I hope to do a .510 whisper this winter.

Just finished my Savage FV-SR into AICS (airsoft) stock

For anyone interested. after about 1.5 years I decided to remove the G96 stock and go back to the OEM little plastic one. Will be giving the rifle to my young son to learn to shoot with and the little lightweight savage stock is perfect. So if anyone wants this stock let me know. i'll sell it...

    12.7 x 48mm (.510 whisper)

I have a machine shop (do mostly my own custom work and tight tolerance aluminum aerospace jobs) with an assortment of lathes and mills. Are the mods something a machinist (with not too much gunsmithing experience can handle? fairly straight forward? I'm not terribly interested in a very high...

    12.7 x 48mm (.510 whisper)

Quick piggy back question. I'm looking to build a .510 Whisper as well. Can a regular long action 700 be used as a parent gun or do you need a magnum action? There's a local Rem700 chambered in 25-06 for sale for $400obo that i thought would make a good inexpensive base if it would work.

Just finished my Savage FV-SR into AICS (airsoft) stock

I got my wife a TRR-SR which pretty much has the same stock as a Boyd's tacti cool, but the grip angle was still not nearly as comfortable for me as this AICS stock. This stock is off the Well G96 gas airsoft rifle that as far as I heard is the only licensed repro of the real AICS stock. It is...

Just finished my Savage FV-SR into AICS (airsoft) stock

Had to buy the entire airsoft rifle on eBay. Got it for a bit over $150. Will probably get around $50 or more for the rest of the airsoft gun I threw back on eBay so the stock will probably end up costing me $100 or so.

    Rimfire Rifle Photos Thread

Here's my freshly finished MKII FV-SR "airsoft abomination". Is it a high end target rifle? No, but for under $500 I think I got a nice beginners rifle pillar bedded into a solid aluminum framed stock with a shape that my bum wrist is much more comfortable aligning. Oh and this particular...

Savage Stock system that accepts AR stocks, grips and rails

I'm thinking of making a "chassis system" (the term is all the rage now right?) for the Savage MKII actions that will accept an ar buffer tube in the back so i can use standard ar stocks, an AR grip and a ring up front to keep the standard AR tubes or rails from touching the barrel. I've got two...

Just finished my Savage FV-SR into AICS (airsoft) stock

I think it went well over all. Well except for the fact i could not get the skins to come off the aluminum frame at all. I think some nut glued them together at the grip. Since I wasn't about to force it and break the plastics i decided to just go through with it and use a dremel to remove...

    Accuracy International 22LR Trainer?

Interesting. I just finished my stock swap with a MKII FV-SR. I'm kinda happy with the airsoft stock. it is resonably ridgid with an aluminum channel and i mated an aluminum bedding block to it.

    Savage Mark II TRR-SR - Extinct ?

I would wonder about that one. I've never heard of two different TRR-SRs and the only one on Savage's site is the normal one with the black textured paint covered wood stock. Maybe it's a modified TRR-SR with an aftermarket stock or an error?

Who makes the highest quality 22 LR look alike?

I'm gonna have to say -1 on the SW 15-22. Unless it's for a kid or small lady that really needs the light weight. I will say i never used match ammo in it, just the recommended federal champion bulk stuff. No issues but besides running around plinging short range stuff..... I regretted not...

    Expected Accuracy at 100 Yards?

That's good to know. So seems a savage bolt gun would be a decent beginner rifle. I like to think my body mechanics are fairly stable (not great i'm sure but not terrible) and I'm patient but i have no concept of reading wind or experience with bullet drop. I do have a decently logical train of...

    Expected Accuracy at 100 Yards?

You guys are fun :D Well based on what you guys are saying even a 2moa rifle will be a good practice rifle for a beginner? Maybe not bench rest but prone, kneeling, offhand? I think the main point of the OP's question is basically the same as mine. for a beginner, what is an acceptable level...

    Expected Accuracy at 100 Yards?

I think he's saying that expecting a typical MKII to be a 1MOA with good ammo is unrealistic and wrong. But i also think someone is missreading trental's post as i got the same thing you did and thought trental ment that with cheap ammo it wouldn't be BUT with quality match ammo that the gun...

    Expected Accuracy at 100 Yards?

This is a great thread. As a newbie trying to start into real marksmanship I decided to start a Savage MKII FV-SR build to learn the basics on. I was under the impression that these are fairly precise rifles out of the box and would be great to learn on. From all the internet reviews and...

    Savage mkII tr

nyuck nyuck anway, yeah the stock stock is wood on the TR. I don't know of anyone making a tactical synthetic stock for that rifle. BUT the regular MKII FV-SR has a standard synthetic stock. I've never seen one with a butthook.

Did someone say AICSR with Pics/Range Report

Well after weeks of searching for a FV-SR i finally gave up and bought a TRR-SR....then not 10min later i get a notice that Buds now has the FV-SR in stock! DAMN... had to buy that too. I've never done any gunsmithing work so this will be my first stab at it. Still not really sure what's...
