Is it worth having Savage custom build a rifle

Since you already load for the 30-06 and are familiar with it then I suggest you stay with that caliber. It's better for 1000 yd. shooting anyway. For a Savage rifle this would be a 110 or 112 series rifle. The 10 and 12 series are short action rifles for .308 length cartridges. As a...

Need a stock for a FN Police Sniper rifle with FN 10 shot dremovable mags

Call McMillans. They keep some extra black painted A-5's in stock just like the ones they supplied to FN. They keep them for warrantee replacement items for FN but also will sell them.

What's your favorite WW2 and older bolt rifle and why?

I have two Krag rifles that I really enjoy shooting. They will both shoot better than I can hold them as my son loves to show me. One is a pretty much standard rifle in about 90% condition with the original sights. The other is a lightly modified competition rifle with a globe front sight and...

Stevens 200 stock short action with 4.275 spacing

Just look for any stock made for a Savage short action ( Model 10, 11, 12 14, etc or Stevens 200), blind magazine, staggered feed, (magazine is attached to the bottom of the action ) 4.275 guard screw spacing, and factory trigger guard. I have seen at least 4 or 5 different variations of a...

    Moa

We shoot 1000 yd benchrest outside Tucson, AZ on the 2nd. Saturday of every month. I wish some of you guys would bring these 1/4 moa guns out and show us how to shoot a lot of consecutive 2.5" groups at 1000 yds. Three in a row would set a new world record.

    Gunsmithing Problems w/ custom rifle

I have seen this at least twice before. The first time the gunsmith caught it and replaced the barrel. The second time nobody noticed it when the holes were drilled and tapped for #8 screws. The first time the customer fired the rifle he said his scope went all fuzzy and there was a bit of...

Gunsmithing Who makes DBMs for 6.5x55 Mauser or 6.5-06 cartridges? Double stack if possible.

The question really depends on what action you are using and need the DBM floorplate to fit. As others have said any standard 30-06 magazine should work fine without bending the lips or fussing with other mods.

Help: Identify and appraise remington 700 match rifle(not tac/sniper).

I believe this is what the custom shop called the "40X-C" model. It was primarily used for a across-the-course rifle from 200 yd. to 600 yd. Also used a lot in Europe for "CISM" (SP?" matches. It had a special extra long magazine box that would hold 5 .308 rounds down in the box with the bolt...

    Mystery Winchester Model 70 Action

P.S. You will also need a billed cap with an extra long bill and little droopy flaps handing down on the sides of the bill. Just another expense to consider.

    Mystery Winchester Model 70 Action

Be aware that obtaining all the necessary items to shoot this rifle properly ( strappy jacket, M.J. glove, yellow glasses, etc) will be a bit of an expense. Plus, as all the un-washed masses know, being a post-64 rifle it is really a piece of junk and hardly worth taking up valuable safe space...

    Mystery Winchester Model 70 Action

Looks pretty much like a standard Post-64 Model 70 long action target rifle, measure the guard screw spacing. It was called the Winchester Marksman and McMillan makes pretty much an exact copy of that stock, called the Winchester Marksman stock.

    Mystery Winchester Model 70 Action

This might help: Pre-64 guard screw spacing is 7.450" Post-64 long 70 guard screw spacing is 7.575" Post-64 short action guard screw spacing is 7.035"

Winchester Model 670 same as M70?

P.S. Most of the aftermarket stocks will be inletted for the 670A with the standard Model 70 bolt shroud safety. Plan on doing a bit of custom fitting and inletting for the trigger mounted 2-position safety. We have never had a Model 670 in here ( McMillans) and have no programming for this...

Winchester Model 670 same as M70?

The Wincheste Model 670 was just an somewhat less expensive version of a standard model 70 for the occasional hunter. They were all blind magazine with just a trigger guard, and the stocks were usually a checkered hardwood stock, not walnut. The 670 models had a two position safety on the...

What should I torque my McMillan stock to?

The major manufacturers (Remington, Winchester, Savage, etc.) will all tell you that their recommended torque settings is in the 30 in lb to 35 in lb range. In the McMillan shop we usually set them at about 35 in. lbs. Never had a barreled action fall out of a stock at this torque setting.
