That some damn good velocity for the 300 grain. I am running Berger 300 OTM but thinking about trying the Scenars to get the ogive a little closer to the lands and still fit in the mag. What is your OAL and how far off the land are you?

3.7180 i think....i load them by fill.. i start at 3.7250 put a cleaning rod in muzzle, put round in
chamber and push round with finger.. than i push round with rod if it sticks , i set round back ,till it doesn't stick .
It kind of fills like a good trigger brake. So i would say they. Are kissing the lands...(works for me)

Why do you think 2800 is fast? 90 gr 91 gr is sweet spot for the. 300gr.

thanks. I am not sure what my velocity is, but it was 2580 with 85 grains H1000. I bumped it up to 88 and have very good accuracy (.2-.4 moa at 300 yards by my most recent test) but when I tried 89 grains I had some very flat primers. I didn't go beyond that. Maybe im just being paranoid. Do your primers look flat? I am using lapua brass, and fed gm215m primers as well. My barrel is 25" and its a shilen select match.

I am currently under going 285 Hornady Load Development with my new custom .338 Lapua. I am running a Krieger 28". The following were some results i had some weeks ago.

285 Hornady over Retumbo inside of Lapua sparked by 215M.
* Node areas for me appeared to be 89.8, 92.0 and 93.7.
I have not narrowed down nodes using .1 grain as of yet followed by seating depth.

Chrony results:
91.8 ~ 2755 (2760, 2760, 2743, 2754)
94.0 ~ 2855 (2855, 2855, missed)
94.3 ~ 2874 (2892, 2873, 2873)

At this point it does not appear my rig likes the 285's so much. At least within magazine length which is all I have tested so far. I have had very good success with AMax 178's in my CZ 750 .308 and extremely good results with AMax 75's in my .223 custom. Both out to 1000 yards.

As I waited for my 338LM to be built I purchased the 285's and 300 SMK's when they became available as I did not want the day to come where the 338 was delivered and I did not have pills to load and test. Something tells me 285's just may group better if I go beyond magazine length but I really don't want to hand feed them. 285's are running under submoa ~ .7 plus at best. All load development has been done at 100 yards which also does not mean all that much as well.

As of now my rig really likes 300 SMK's over 92.1 of Retumbo at maximum magazine so I am happy I found a magazine load pretty quick. But, truth is I live in NY and limited to 200 yards locally. I do travel throughout year to various states to shoot 1000 yards but have yet to do so being I just got her two months ago. Reason for all LD at this time.

I know of two other 338LM owners who shoot SUBMOA out to one mile and they both run at or around 92 of H1000 with OTM's BUT they are hand feeding this load as they are well above magazine length. This is why I am trying out H1000 and 300 OTM's. Want to see if my rig likes it as well. Have not seen any pressure signs in my BAT Tactical Action with 92 of H1000 as cases, primers and bolt lift is same as 89.5 loads. I have not yet tested as my Chrony on last two occassions did not recognize ANY shots. Tried using three brand new Duracell - nothing. I have not tested the cable as Chrony told me my cable might be bad - a couple dollars to replace at Home Depot or similar. My results were through a bench rest shooter's chrony at my local range. I am very much interested fps of 92 of H1000. I don't even know what my 92.1 Retumbo load is travelling at either but she's tight so I am happy for now. I'll probably run some more speed tests within 4 weeks with which ever other nodes I find before then. I'll post MV when I run those test again. They are getting just under or over 2800 fps so I am thinking I just might be around same??? All three of our LM's have different make barrels but same 28".

Initially just wanted to share my limited 285 results when you mentioned 285's @ 2900 MV. It is very much doable based on my chrony results posted above.

By the way, great group results you had!!!!!! I hope my 100 yards nodes group that well when I make it out to those distances. As of right now I will be going to PA and VA to shoot one mile between July and October of this year. 1000 in October and November between PA and GA.

Hello gixxerk8, my rifle likes 91 to 92 grs with a 250 gr bullet, what is your 300 gr bullet load with retumbo.
Also what you OAL and load if you have used H-1000 with 300 gr bullet. With a 250 gr bullet I had bolt stick
with 94 grs but I see people here have used up to 96 to 98 grs; if I did that I would have to beat it with a
hammer. I'm shooting a Armlite AR-30A1, 26" barrel.

Than 90.5gr H1000 ragged hole @ 100 yds but didnt like 2778 m.v./ 91.0 moved 1/4" to right and 2800/2810 ! Why 2800 don't no ? I just. Like 2800 LOL!

Hmmmmmm. You've got me really curious what fps 92.0 of H1000 is running in my rig. At range today I only shot 3 rounds for pressure testing, 917, 92.0 and 92.3 of H1000 at maximum magazine length. Last previous pressure test of same H1000 was at 3.815 ~.025 from LANDS. I am running a NON-CIP LM Action. My Magazine is 3.650 max BUT 3.630 is pretty much maximum without any feeding issues. I am going to attempt LD within magazine length in hopes she groups as Retumbo does @ magazine length.

I'm sure your groups will shrink as my groups have always gotten smaller once Lapua Brass was devirginized. Haven't reloaded any of brass and don't plan on it. I myself like the sounds of 2800 and accurate myself!

In regards to Krieger Barrels: Before my two customs came in the old time veterans at my local range kind of talk down on Krieger Barrels. Always got questioned on WHY did you choose Krieger. Oh, you should have went with this company or that company for your barrel. Now that both my customs (.223 & .338) have come in and they have seen results they now know why I chose Krieger.

Lastly, when my custom .223 came in I made up 300 rounds of same load. I deliberately put 50 rounds to side to chrony again as months went by. Initial fps averaged 2880/2886. I did this because custom gun builder told me to expect fps increase as barrel was broken in. About two months ago (7 months later) I shot ten of the remaining same loads through chrony. Well the 20 or so fps expected increase turned into 3003 average. Huhhhhh???? I am very much happy with my Krieger barrels. Granted Jamie told me 100 feet per second is not expected or normal but he himself told me to BE HAPPY & RUN WITH IT.

My wife's second time ever shooting a .223 period was today - (rig mentioned above) .

This was ALL 12 shots she took today at 100 yards. Yesterday she took her first 6 with a .223.

Maybe its just me but considering this was only her fifth day EVER shooting a long arm and first three times last year all with my CZ 22LR I think this is pretty damn good.

I agree 1000% but she's not even a year old and they don't come cheap...

I just heard about a thread on GAP 6.5 SAUM. One of the guys in here which I PM back and forth on 338LM loads just got one. He said he took his brand new GAP 6.5 SAUM for a 1500 yard spin about two weeks ago and she (rig that is) was banging steel and running flatter than his (2800 fps) 338LM.. Also mentioned there is NO recoil with his GAP6.5 SAUM. At least nothing compared to a 338LM.

Hmmmmmm maybe something for me to think about.

Oh wait, I just thought, No Recoil means wifey will shoot it. If wifey shoots it and recoil doesn't bother her then I may get caught in a Matrix and I do not have money to be going around in circles buying new custom rigs every time she uses that word "MINE" with one on my rigs.....
