I like having the bolt blacked out because it hides any carbon junk. A coyote bolt would look dirty all the time. Plus the black ties together your optic and shit.Damn, y'all have me thinking about staying now haha. Might just recerakote the bolt Coyote when I get the scope base coated.
What barrel length? Any chrono data? Been thinking lately a short 6 Creed would be a handy critter getter
16.5 Bartlein m24 contour. I just assembled it on Sunday and haven't shot it but I will be chonographing it within a few weeks. What barrel length? Any chrono data? Been thinking lately a short 6 Creed would be a handy critter getter
Will do. I will be shooting Prime 107's.If you think about it, post the results. Thanks
What threads did you go with at 16.5"?Got my first coyote with the new setup this last weekend. Running 3300 FPS with 58 gr VMAX from the 16.5” 243. Could probably go faster if I wanted as I didn’t have any pressure signs or sticky bolt but I’ll probably leave as is.
I have an 18" 6.5 Creed and a Dominus CB in jail. Been using a Harvester and a 30P-1 on it. I have a 22BR and a 223 that ma end up at 18" or less soon. This thread keeps pushing me towards shorter. I've got a .308 24" Savage 11VT barrel I'll be threading for a TBAC can mount and I'm unsure what combination of long can/short can and long barrel/short barrel I want to take it. 24" and an Ultra 9 works well for PRS TAC and other 308 class stuff, but if I ever want to go into the woods for deer or elk I'm certain a Dominus CB on the end of a 16" tube is wildly preferable. Choices...
I got 2715 fps out of a factory 20" 6.5 CTR barrel with the original 130 Prime ammo. Chopped a 24" Bartlein down to 18" and get 2740 fps with the same load.I am curious to see the velocities I will get with it. This is going to chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor as I already have a Tikka CTR chambered the same. Easier in current market to reload what I already have than find new. The CTR with 24 inch factory barrel is very accurate but slow. I know that the short barrel will be slower already but the numbers others have shared look like I might actually be in the same ballpark as my CTR. If so I might order up a replacement barrel for the CTR so I can get the most out of that rifle.
A real shorty - built around an XP100 pistol on fiddleback walnut bullpup stock, milled in the 70's.
Chambered in .308 with 16" barrel plus brake. Little guy is 34" overall and will still do 1/2" @ 100.

A dandy little brush gun for deer and hogs. Fun one-of-a-kind build. Call it a REM7 Bull Pup.
Was on ebay looking for a magazine spring for it and found a guy who does it up in MI. Couldn't resist. Found out later my gunsmith can do it too. Oops. He's gonna do my 6.5x55 while he has it. It's getting a Timney trigger, a Boyd's stock, shortened to 18", bolt handle, and the K95 I got off the Israeli surplus sales thread.Nice jeweling on the bolt and mag follower.
I wish I was getting those velocities with my factory barrel. Best so far has been just under 2600. Can’t remember the exact velocities without looking in my log which is at home. But it is slow. Will have to fiddle a little more with it. It is accurate half MOA or better depending on me doing my part but could be faster.I got 2715 fps out of a factory 20" 6.5 CTR barrel with the original 130 Prime ammo. 24 inch Tikka CTR stainless. I was off on what I reported. It actually is averaging 2528. That is using 41 grains IMR4350 and Hornady 140 ELDM. Like I said it is slow but does shoot well. I have shot it seated at .010 but it was not as consistent. Best so far is .037 off. Don’t want to derail the shorty thread. I am excited to get my proof 16.5 barrel and the build done and do some comparisons. Might try some different loads too in the CTR to see if I get better results. What factory barrel? I was at 2720 with a 16" SS Proof suppressed. With 130 Berger's and 43gr H4350.
If your factory barrel isn't SS it's going to be slower.
I was also .010 off the lands so that speeds things up also.
Factory ammo is usually pretty slow just to be safe.

Awesome16" 6.5CM is perfection!
Here is my buddies 16.5" proof R700.
That thing has put down a LOT of Deer and Coyote. He loves shooting 129sst superformance
Thats probably the shortest 20lb rifle built. I like it.I can finally post my completed rifle. R700 .223 with a 17” Shilen 1.25” barrel, MPA ESR Chassis, and YHM Resonator K.
No kidding! It doesn’t move under recoil though.Thats probably the shortest 20lb rifle built. I like it.
Is that the factory rings on the Ruger GSR? Trying to get some rings and a scope for mine.View attachment 7283542
Couple of Ruger shorties. 308 Ruger GSR and RAR 300 BLK. Both have to share the Ultra 7.
Yes, in that picture I’ve got the factory rings holding the VX3 2.5-8x36.Is that the factory rings on the Ruger GSR? Trying to get some rings and a scope for mine.
I must have missed this. I'm putting in for either an Ultra 7, 9, or Dominus CB very soon, and it'll live on a short 308. How do you like the CB mount system?View attachment 7283542

By chance would you know what rings for a 30mm tube? I search sites and do not see the Ruger GSR, is it comparable to the M77 dovetail receiver?Yes, in that picture I’ve got the factory rings holding the VX3 2.5-8x36.
From this past weekend 16” .308 bbl with 175gr OTMs traveling at 2470fps. 12.5mils to 1k. 2-2.2mils of windage. Loving the 338 Ultra

155 Scenars are good from short barrels. In the barrel cut down test Rifle Shooter did a number of years ago they got 2466fps with 168FGMM out of the 16.5" barrel. I hope to get the same with mine if not close with the use of a can.

I like it a lot. I have four CB brakes and one CB flash hider on various rifles. The return to zero is consistent so I just switch the can around as needed. I do wish that I could find a threaded cover for the brakes, for times when I want to leave the can off, which isn't often with the shorties. A 16" braked 308 has quite a bit of concussion, as does a 10" 300 BLK. Area 419 had just come out with their system about the time I ordered my U7, but I am too deep in CB's to switch now.I must have missed this. Yes, the rings are stated as Ruger M77 & Hawkeye on the Warne box. I use both Ruger and Warne rings on them.By chance would you know what rings for a 30mm tube? I search sites and do not see the Ruger GSR, is it comparable to the M77 dovetail receiver?

Thank you sir!Yes, the rings are stated as Ruger M77 & Hawkeye on the Warne box. I use both Ruger and Warne rings on them.
Yes I have those. I’m referring to a brake cover that would thread on and block the blast chambers to remove the extra concussion caused by the brake.TBAC has thread protectors for them.
Getting close on the WTO rebuild.
About 95% done with opening up the recoil lug area. Need to do a little more trimming and get a scope rail and DBM. Then either cerakote the BA OD Green or coat the stock Coyote to match the BA. Undecided for now.

Had my 100 year old Spanish Mauser Scout Rifle shortened to 18". Now I have my first Mannlicher stocked rifle... sort of.
