16-18 inch shorty rifles

Looks like an NX8? You wouldn’t by chance happen to know what that setup weights would ya?
7-35 ATACR + 338 Ultra. Switching to the 4-16 ATACR and Dominus will save 1.5#

What do y’all say is the major benefit of running an 18” barrel in a 308 versus a 20?
"2 of barrel is two inches of length, two inches of weight, and that two inches can make a gun feel noticable more handy at the expense of minor velocity loss.
I will say that in a tree stand, my 20" gun does seem noticably more usable than my 22" gun. I've been considering cutting down that 20" to 17" or 18" for this reason.

Cut to 16 inches and never look back.

That 16.5 inch 6.5CM I built for my son was AMAZING to handle in stands and shooting huts with 9 inch can on it vs my 26 In 6.5cm bolt gun and even my 18 in .223 Wylde SPRish build

If you think about it, post the results. Thanks
16.5 inch Bartlein M24 6mm Cm. Prime 107, 65 degrees. 2,757 FPS avg with SD of 7.2.

5 rounds 318 yards. This is during break in, about 50 rounds through the rifle.

I liked my 6.5 ridge SP so much that when I found a couple hundred rounds of 308 I loaded and forgot about... I bought one in 308 this weekend. Put a 1-6 strike eagle on it because my scope snobbery has plummeted recently (my wallet thanks me) and wanted to see how it would do. When I'm not bow hunting I'm hog hunting and I've gotten so bored with my AR's that I only bring my bolt gun even when I see a ton of pigs. I shot 13 pigs in one hunt this year with my 6.5 ridge from 10-70 yards so the 1-6 makes sense where I Hunt.

Zero'd with my reloads and shot two hogs yesterday morning. I have a TBAC ultra 7 in jail... Now the big question is do I cut the 308 down to 16".
I shoot with hearing pro even with a suppressor and yesterday made me think do I even need one but this gun will be a loaner/ kid gun so 16" suppressed is probably the way to go. I'll probably put a swarm z3 on it once I hand it down but for now I'll rock the 1-6

Any experience with shorty 30-06? Yes, I know, old school, no one shoots that anymore, etc. My first suppressor is in jail and I am going to cut down and thread the rifle used for most of my hunting. Most shots where I hunt are 200 yds. and in. I know 20" will easily work for my application, but I'm curious if others have any experience with even shorter 30-06. 18"? 16.5"?

A 16.5” 30/06 will be just fine for 200 yards as long as your suppressor can handle it. Mine is 16.25” and I run 215 bergers at 2580fps with RL17 or 2500 with h4350
Thank you for the detailed information, CA48. I checked with TBAC for min. barrel length for 30-06 with the Dominus CB and they said 16" should be fine. Their website lists min. barrel lengths for 308 at 12.5 and 300 WM at 18" so I feel pretty comfortable going 16.5". I'm going to do it!

That should be kick ass. Sounds like you could push a 175-185 fairly comparable to a 308 too. Very interesting!

Just to be clear this is with a Rem throat which is long. My Coal is 3.650 and it’s still has a decent amount of jump.

Y'all are making me really want the 16" tac a1. I'm tempted to sell my aero M5 build to pay for it, but in know I'd want them both eventually.

My Nomad L is begging for a 16" bolt host.

Do a 16 inch barrel on the M5 and enjoy that. I was in the same boat and glad I kept my m5 build (even though still waiting on barrel)

18" Rem 700 30-06, 155 Scenar, around 2800 fps at an accuracy node, bull elk at 400 yards shot by my daughter. The lopped off barrel was very close in weight to the suppressor. Highly recommend.
