Sir, I would go to Either Graybeard outdoors where there is a good TC following and ask, or to Speciality Pistols forum, also many TC fans. Surely some of the aftermarket TC barrel companies can do it or recommend. Loved my old Contenders back in college with adjustable hair triggers. No doubt the blast is closer to you, and good you can suppress where you are, not currently here in LA for hunting. TC are capable of outstanding accuracy...had a 223 and 6TCU carbine barrel long ago, very handy - as was a Ruger RSI #1, 243. Short sure is sweet in close cover, lighter and faster to target and works well from tight blinds/stands. Thanks and good hunting.

Wont be an issue with the egw base. It does not cantilever back like the talley 1 piece does. All of it extends fwd. i can use regular 30mm rings with it too.
Really depends more on contour than length and brand than objective size. A 16" MTU will weigh more than a 24" sporter. A 50mm Nightforce will generally weigh more than an equivalent size from another maker. There is also stock fill to consider.
That being said, these rigs are all probably around 10lbs.
I am thinking of going with a SureFire Muzzle Brake on this until I can get the can. Its a 223 with already not much recoil. What can I expect it To be like with a brake?
Mine came in at 11lbs on a bathroom scale. 2 pounds for the G2DMR. It was a 26" Tactical or Varmint but at 18" it balances perfectly in this EH1 which makes it feel lighter than it is. Hell I hunted with it in lock ons, ladders and climbers when it was in the T5 which was almost a pound heavier. I'm also 6'3" and 245 so I'm used to a little extra weight. I don't hike all over the woods with it very often and I'm not in the mountains or plains. I do have a very lightweigt 7mm08 but it's stayed at home ever since I cut this one down and put it in a Manners w/ mini chassis last year.

I'm still working out all the details before I send off my 700 action but I'm thinking a 16.5" mtu contour barrel with spiral flutes chambered in .308. Not sure what stock or chassis to use yet but I figure I will have plenty of time to decide while waiting on the barrel.

18" AAC barrel on a trued remington 700 short action. Cerakote and gunsmithing done by PCR.
Who knew a simply investment in a 1/2 off AAC barrel would land me with this beast. I'm not complaining, but my wallet is.

That is a sweet set-up! Love the size and balance. What's the felt recoil like given the lightweight of the rig, and the 175's?
I shoot a lot of big calibers and shot guns, so I am not very recoil sensitive. 308 Recoil seems minimal to me. That said, short barrels tend to rise more than traditional length barrels due to increased blast and lack of forward weight. When shooting in prone with natural point of aim, watching your trace and hits through the glass is easy without a brake. But off of the bench or some other positions, muzzle rise pulls the scope off target every time unless you really torque down on the rifle (which messes up accuracy). I installed a BABC brake that I had laying around for another build and it completely eliminated muzzle rise, reduced felt recoil, and did not hinder accuracy (although POI was a little different than without the brake). It added a little weight, noise, and length to the rifle, but it is worth it IMO because you don't always get to shoot prone.
The gun loves 175 SMK and 178 A-Max. Pic with the brake on it:

Thanks for the reply, and the awesome pic! Glad to know that with a brake, it helps eliminate felt recoil. I had a JRA 1903-a4 and after shooting that, I am now sensitive to recoil. That metal butt-plate jarred the heck out of my shoulder. Yes, I had it seated in my shoulder firmly, but after 2 boxes of PPU 150gr's, my shoulder hurt. Been looking at these shorty rifles, and really liking them. Thanks for contributing.

We built this 16.25" barrel .308 for a friend of mine last year. We're getting ready to build something somewhat similar on another friend's Model Seven.
This one has a Rock #5 fluted barrel.
Love these shorter rifles. Every time a customer has us build one I end up wanting one very badly. I owned a 16.25" .308 and am sorry I had to sell it.

It came in a bit over 7 lbs with nothing on it. I don't have a scale at my new house but with scope and accessories, I would put it close to 10.

My PSR 308 barrel got a little shorter. Right around 18.5 inches. Folds up to a small little rifle. The Thunderbeast 338BA (awesome can) snugs right up against the handguard.
Saving my pennies for a Leupold Mark 6 3-18 CMR-W....... Gotta confirm at least 2550fps, with 175's in this 16.5" tube, first though. Maybe the primers won't fall out of the case!
