2018 Isle of Mann TT

I say it every year. The Isle is where the alpha males go once circuit racing gets boring. It was one of few things I always wanted to do that wont get checked off the list. Getting a shade old now for that sort of thing.

Hi,

Shit man that race is dangerous enough to worry about...but holy shit a course car hit another rider while responding to Dans wreck. Talk about bad luck.
Prayers and Best wishes go out to Dans family and friends. At least he went out doing what he loved and lived to do. Dan being a local on Isle of Mann, he lived and breathed to race there.

Edited to Add: It appears the saying "It takes man to raise a Man" is true....Dans father gives public announcement requesting the Team Compete in the race with backup driver instead of the Teams original statement of they will be sitting the race out in honor of Dan.

Been watching it on Velocity. I really want to go... but while the tickets are cheap, staying on the isle of Man during the event is insanely expensive. If you can even get reservations. Even campgrounds are outrageous.

The racing is amazing... but I think it's turning into a bloodsport and the racing equivalent of Burning Man. Noone really knows why it's awesome, but they have to be there because it's cool... and it's going to ruin the event. Which is a shame.

One dead qualifying this year? One in intensive care. Another dead Monday. How long before it gets pussified?

That said, the racing is like nothing on the planet... The sidecar racing is insane. Can you imagine how hard it is for those 'passengers' to do what they do for 5 - 6 laps? And most of them are sporting grey hair!

Amazing...

I too would love to go watch. Obvious since I start a thread each year.
1970 was the deadliest year. It used to be part of the World championship and was dropped in the 70's for being to dangerous. You know what Isle of Man did. They said "go to hell, we did it before without you and we will keep doing it"

I have the hardest time putting my thoughts into words but I will try to do it justice here.

I love Freedom more than life itself. I am not sure 99% of people even know what true freedom is. I find the Isle of Man TT to be inspiring because it embodies Freedom above all else. I showed my Father some of the TT the other day. "That is just stupid" was his reaction.

Any stupider than jumping from a plane for fun. 2 climbers just died falling off a cliff in Yosemite.

For me the world is becoming to sterile. Fuck I miss lawn darts. Not a fan of helmet laws, and I don't own a motorcycle.

Watching this year there is a dip in the road that is really unsettling the bikes. Part of me says they should fix that, most of me says fuck it, the riders know it is there and could slow down.

Freedom, that is what it is.

Always have enjoyed footage from the TT.
Did some slower versions of this around the local water supply back in the day.
I can still remember the gal standing at her mailbox.
Even north of 100 I could hear her beratement.
My mirror was just about a foot behind her.
It sure felt like living.

I grew up racing MX. I was on a Wombat Combat, not tall or strong enough to shake a gas can to pre-mix not pore it into my after market Preston tank (lol).

Later, at 18 I raced a bit of pavement, but no longer had sponsors. While I am impressed with the skill of today’s riders along with yesteryears, I get a bit sick watching guys get lose on the that course.. at least on a closed circuit, the leather does it job.. not so much if you hit a house or 800 year old stone fence on that road course.

I get that same sick feeling occasionally watching IOM these days too . Never used too , obviously
the music is too loud and I’m too old . Old bold pilots ..... Sliding my RG 500 around two decades
ago seems like several lifetimes past .
