22GT load data

Got some rounds down the new GT barrel. Shot 8 and then these 7 for speed. The first 8 were 35gr for sight in and then these. Ran 88gr ELDM 20k off for this procedure. All N555.

For anyone who wants to try this as a coyote round, I have built 3 different barrels for hunting. My bullet is 60vmax using H4895. Same identical load is 3450fps in 16" barrel, 3500fps in 18" and 3600fps in 20" barrel. They all shoot great, but the fav currently is the 20" Bartlein 400bb steel carbon wrapped. I'm hoping for long life even with the highest velocity.

3 shots at 250yds is the last picture

For those of y'all that wish to run 22GT with a HRD br kit in an AW/AW mag. The spacer needs to be filed/ sanded down to at least 0.325" towards the top. I measured the gap that I normally leave with a standard 308 follower and it was 0.329". More may be needed depending on the bullet you are using and OAL. This is for 88's at a coal of 2.546".

Barrel shoot well?

What barrel life are you expecting?
I only have 190 rounds on the barrel. I expect 2000 rounds +/- from the barrel. Shoots as well or better than my 22BR, which shoots the same bullet, but with 29.0 Varget at 3000fps. I might go slower on the 22GT. See if I can find a node around 3020-3040fps.

I ordered a OBW 22GT last night. Opted for 150FB and plan to shoot 85.5s around 3,025-3,050.
I think that is the sweet spot.

I just looked up my earlier targets. At the 30 round point, that same load chrono-ed at 2942fps. Sped up to 3088 by 190 rounds, quite a change.

Anyone have any data for monos, specifically cutting edge 78gr mth or pva 77 cayugas?

I just ordered a 22gt barrel for coyote and ground squirrel hunting, but being in CA I have to use non lead bullets for hunting, even varmint hunting. Makes components rather expensive just to blow up a squirrel, lol

I need to run some numbers in quick load this weekend for powder ideas. I have plenty of varget and RL16 on hand, and I'm guessing either should work with the 77/78s.

I would start at 36-37gr of rl 16 and work up

I just ran some numbers in Quickload using a Cutting Edge 78 MTH with the driving band seated to right above the case neck, and RL16 looks like a winner for that combo. QL says 36gr is probably going to be way too hot though, I'll probably start around 33.5gr which it says should be around 51.5ksi because of the higher shot start pressure with the monos. 3300-3350fps looks attainable with pressures in the 55ksi range. Won't know for sure until the brass gets here and I can measure case capacity and also see how the barrel acts.

QL says RL26 should be the fastest power with the 77/78 monos, but QL currently doesn't have an option to "skip unobtainable powders" in their powder suggestion chart, LOL

I just looked it was 38.2 gr of rl16 with a 75 eldm at 3324fps out of a 20” barrel. No pressure spikes in 90 degree weather shooting Praire dogs. I’ve since switched the load to 40gr of n555 (very full case) and it’s pretty much the same velocity. Both loads shot great

Vit N555 should be right there with RL16, but will need +1-2gr.
These aren't necessarily top loads, just what I used on virgin Alpha brass on a new barrel. All below in first 100 rounds. It'll probably speed up 80-100.
The data below might help you to see how quick load is lining up.

New 24" 7T Rock barrel on Tika, virgin brass, & Fed 205 primer
90 SMK all loaded same length 2.522 / 1.993
6.5 Staball 38.0gr = 3047
RL16 36.1gr = 3022
H4350 36.1gr = 3052
Vit N555 37.7gr = 3097

My 22GT Alpha brass 1 x has 45.08 gr h2o filled to top.
Dry weight with spent primer = 145.38
Wet weight = 190.46

I still have some of those 78 MTH & might load a few for the GT.

Tried them in a Valkyrie & they shot like ass.

Good info, thanks.

I still have some cutting edge 78 mth as well from testing in my 2x 223AIs and a friend's 22BR... They also shot like crap for me in all 3. The Lehigh 72 CCs on the other hand were extremely accurate in both my 223AIs and the 22BR, but as of now the Lehigh 72s are not available.

I hope the 77 cayugas or 78 mth shoot good in the 22GT.

I have some 77 cayugas I’ll be trying out in my 22 dasher.

22GT Alpha OCD available. Alpha has confirmed they are legitimate. Additionally, one of the companies workers has confirmed their are divesting some of their product offering. Thus being, they are the only ones with it in stock right now 😂
I appreciate the heads up. I ordered a few boxes. Although, I have to say that I've had fantastic results with the hornady brass.
37.5 grains staball 6.5 (trickled)
Rem 7 1/2 primer
Hornady brass
88 eldm
es of 5 across 10 shots

My brass arrived today. While I wait for my barrel and action I am thinking about reloading 100x so I can immediately shoot once it arrives.

PVA OBW 22GT w/ 150FB
Berger Hybrid 85.5
CCI 400
H4350

I am thinking 34.0 H4350 should be a nice mild load. Thoughts?

34 will be mild indeed. I ran 35gr H4350 breakin load with 88eldm right around 2990-3000fps. Shot pretty well. Powder lot can swing that number +-30fps tho. 34gr with the short bearing but lighter weight will probably be in that same velocity area with a 26" barrel.

I love how Hornady data maxes out at 33.6grains.

Yeah I haven't lost any yet either. So far just fire formed and barrel brake in first 200 Alpha brass. 3100 with the 88's is the highest I've gone.
24" 7T

Reading through the 22 Creedmoor thread scared me a little with all the 88's coming apart in 7T above 3150.

36.1 H4350 with 90smk was looking pretty good @3050

Also going to play around with RL15.5 some more with the 88's 34.6-35.4gr
