Something I needed to do before ordering a special 300 PRC reamer with a shorter throat.

I can't touch the lands with the 198's. It would take a freebore length of .000" to have a chance of running through a mag. Not that I would with that bullet.

I'm using Hornady dies I had made 5 years ago. Not sure if anyone else has started making them. I have two sets of 30's and one set of 338 left. Both bushing type FL dies.
I use a Hornady FL die and Wilson seater for my 1K BR rifle.
Looking into this for my next match rifle to replace the 300win mag. We’re just about to get some brass and reamer in nz. I’ve been running AI mags with the 300wm. 208 eldm. Running at mag length the ballistic tips flattened under recoil in the mag. I have since shortened my col and improved the accuracy by making sure the bullet doesn’t touch the front of the mag when the case is pushed forward to the shoulder stop.
My question is to those who are using he PRC in a 300 wm magazine is how much play is there with the case against the shoulder stop ( as the case is a touch shorter) and how would this affect bullet col and projectile position in the case using the likes of the 208 eldm.

Just curious, how much room do you have left in the magazine since you shortened the coal?
So I have a 300wm in a chassis that takes 3.715in aics mags. Would it be possible/ realistic feed the 300 prc in a magazine that size? Any recommendations on more traditional stocks or chassis systems with a larger magazine?
The two factory Hornady options will not fit in that magazine you currently have. You would have to seat the 212 eldx 40 thou deeper. I'll have to look at my numbers when I get home.
The 212s will fit in the 3.775 mags. And both fit in the 3.850 mags.
Not sure what chassis's take what size mags with the bottom metals. I'm sure someone has a chart. If you were starting over, there would be no reason to not get a chassis with BM that takes the CIP mags.
KRG Bravo Rem 700 long action takes the CiP length mags
KRG Bravo with the Accurate Mag 3.850 is what I have been using for awhile now. Works great with plenty of room.
If anyone gets a line on brass please let me know. Even just 50 would be great to start for headspace, load development, etc. Thanks.

I’m shooting a 338/375 ruger. I use 8x68s Norma or RWS brass and fire form it to my chamber. The head is a bit smaller so some actions may not be able to extract but with a sako/ m16 style extractor it works great! I hate the cow fire forming so I shoot cheap bullets to fire form. I neck up to 375 then down to 338 forming a false shoulder with a slight crush fit. It is much stronger than Hornady’s primer pockets. For the 300 prc you could prob just trim to 2.600 the neck down to 308. Left to right: Hornady 338/375, Norma 8x68 fireformed, 8x68 ready to fire form

The lot of Hornady brass I have is not the best - having concentricity issues. Have another lot coming in to try. We'll see if any other vendors start producing.

So did I read the initial (and limited) information on the 300 PRC correctly:
Not belted
Same/more at distance energy on target than 338LM but less than 300 Norma
Slightly better ballistics than 338LM but slightly less than 300 Norma
Significantly less recoil than 338LM/300 Norma/300 WinMag

That's why I'm asking. I don't have some fucking calculator that will figure out mundane bullshit like some of you quikload nerds do.
From the 2 places I read about the PRC, it was mentioned it had less recoil but didn't really mention, compared to what. Seeing as how they all group the 338LM, 300 Norma and 300 PRC together, it would make sense that's what they were referring to.

The closest comparison form Hornady that you can reasonably get with their published info is a 212 eld-x in 300prc and a 200 eld-x in 300 wm. PRC:

Bingo. As long as the 300 win mags they have (m24's?) Can use a CIP length mag, which the PRC requires.

Look, I really like the the 300 PRC as it is a nice compromise and should be an efficient, fast and easy cartridge to reload. It offers a minimal improvement over the 300WM and gets rid of the belt and uses a longer neck. It is just a saami approved version of a older well thought out wildcat and nothing earth shattering.
