Neck turned Nosler Brass
Redding comp dies with .332 bushing for .002 neck tension

Berger 210 VLDs seated .005" off the lands
Tight chamber .337" neck
Chronies about 2805 fps
AVERAGES about .25 MOA

As a side note all my best loads for the .300 WM with previous barrels etc... have always chronied between 2800-2860 fps. I have found that for whatever the reason the best accuracy always falls in that area for the 200-210 grain bullets.

Re: Loads for .300WM--.300WSM

I have found a pretty good load for my Winchester Coyote Light 300WSM using:

180 Gr Hornady Interbond
Win Brass
Federal 215GM Primers
66.0 Gr of IMR-4831
OAL 2.862
Havent Chrony'd yet, but should be running right around 2950-2985
This load will consistently produce below .50 MOA. I have shot a .301 & a .365 MOA now with this load. good enough for me with practically a factory rifle.

Time for me to contribute again and again………
Following information derived from 300 winmag Rem 700 LA with 27” Lilja heavy taper, 3-groove, 1:10 twist barrel with 242 rounds down the tube. Loads were shot over an Oehler 35P with screens set at 15 feet. Unless otherwise noted temp was 50 degrees with variable cloudiness, 3-5 wind. Shooting was done at 100 yards to compare known previous 100 yard zeros. Testing was done on the ground with Harris pod with claws. All rounds were loaded into new prep’d and trimmed Win brass .015 off the lands (unless otherwise noted) with -.004 neck tension. 3-shot groups were used for testing so I could still move my shoulder the next day. Note: this finicky little bitch........but is finally showing promise

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

Question for you 300 shooters:

My Lyman manual says the powder that generates the highest velocity and is the most accurate with 190s and 200s is RX25. I've never shot RX25. Any opinions on it?

Just scored some Redding dies and am anxious put some rounds together.

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

anybody have a neck dia of turned (just too clean up) laoded rounds for a 300wsm i'm thinking .337, .338ish i turn my 308 to 014 and use a .333 neck dia giving a 336 loaded round... does that sound about right to you all???

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

My 300wsm loaded round is .338 to .339 in stock WW brass
with .015 to .014 wall so I'm going with an .336 bushing.
69.9 of RL25 is getting me 2740 with 190 BVLDz 020 into the lands
@ 3.080 out of modified box metal 24" barrel, F210GM
bout 1/2 moa
Similar results with
66.0 to 66.4 gr of 7828 same same same

The Norma I got wetcaps -1 of the WW unfired and is .016 neck wall
F215GMz got me 20 more

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

Casey,

The Lyman manual recommends regular large rifle primers not mags. I however will be trying the mags, just starting at the bottom of the recommended powder range.

anyone using 208 a-max with RL-22 in the 300wsm? been thinking about trying this but i don't have a powder charge to start with. man i need to pick up quick load one of these days

Re: Loads for .300WM--.300WSM

Ok for those who are shooting the Berger's in the WSM no one has really given their OAL just keep stating that its kissing the lands? What is your OAL? I am at 2.90" OAL shooting the 175VLD's is that what everyone else is close to? The book and Berger state that the OAL should be 2.60", but my groups really opened up at that length.

Re: Loads for .300WM--.300WSM

Need some help guys! My Remmy sendero is a tack driver but ONLY with Federal High Energy 180g Trophy Bonded Bear Claws. I have tried almost every commericial ammo from 150g-200 grain and it slings the shit out of them. Trying some 180 seirra game kings with H4831SC. (NO luck) I will hunt with the Frederal Factory Trophy Bonded Bear Claws as my gun loves them but any advise on something cheaper to shoot. Speer is very proud of the damn bullet. About $30 for 25 bullets. Loaded ammo is about $50 +/-
I would sell this gun but my parents bought it for me aboout ten years ago and has sentimental value. Any advise on something similar and cheaper? Thanks!

Re: Loads for .300WM--.300WSM

I used 56.6 of varget under 168gn nosler custom comp. with a federal magnum match primer, just over 3.5". this load in my rifle did under MOA thru 500.
81 gn of h1000 under 168gn nosler or 168 amax, with fereral mag. match primers. this shoots MOA at 100 and would do better at 300 if i had a new barrel.

Re: Loads for .300WM--.300WSM

Thank you Rookie; personally I am coming to believe deburring flash holes and neck tension / turning / trimming are possibly more advantageous respectring accuracy than magnum primers for 3wm.

Re: Loads for .300WM--.300WSM

All these loads, I am surprised I didn't see any H-1000. My 300 win likes RP Brass Fed 215M 180 NAB 75.5 RL 22 kissing the lands. But H-1000 is hard to beat for me w/200 gr bullet, not the fastest but groups are tight hot or cold

Re: Loads for .300WM--.300WSM

ok my stick shoots the following

300wm
32" archer bbl 32mm thick
chamber cut to be 15 thou into the lands and be sat ontop of 74.5gr h1000 fgmm 210 vld's

when seated the bullet is pushed back to give 98-100%fill

spec'd out with gunsmith, match chamber to match my full length die, and estimated seatin depth for the throat to be cut was worked out from info gained from my stock pss playing around with loads

basically I worked out that in a ten twist opt vel is 2850 with bullet jammed into the lands and a load of 78.5 h1000 I was getting that vel and a ballistic program estimated that I would get 'x' with an increased bbl length and if I cut back on powder to get the wanted 2850fps I would need a charge of 74-74.5

the load was allready based on a jam fit so throat was cut so that it would be engaging lands when 74.5gr h1000 and bullet sat right on top of the load (100%fill)

got gun back, loaded in the field 74.5gr h1000 seated out 15thou longger than throat measuremant loaded, kissed my ass good bye and fired,,,,,,fuck me I am alive

looked at crono and got something like 2847fps first load

this was safe because it was all based on info gained from a jammed load and the load was significantly reduced because of the extra 6" bbl length and was a minimum load according to manuals

however light loads can be very dangerous in 300's in saami spec chambers, this chamber was spec'd out for this

Re: Loads for .300WM--.300WSM

300 WSM

I have not yet cronoed this....

190 berger VLD .002-.003 into the lands
H4831sc @ 66.5 grains
norma brass
Winchester Larger Rifle primers

5 shot group was well under 1/2" at 100 yards

This is out of a FN SPR and this load is at the top end of hodgdon's load data for powder charge.

Re: Loads for .300WM--.300WSM

Niles...

I know you are a good shooter and those awesome groups you shot were part machine but also part man. I was wondering if you can test this load out to 300 yards and see how it performs. Please let me know how it does. I'm really recommending the 190 VLD for my brother and his SPR A1 but would like to know how the VLD performs at longer ranges. Please post your results too.

Re: Loads for .300WM--.300WSM

Paoers,

I shot this load at 200 and approx 285. It seems to be keeping 1/2 moa. I shot 285 today and the group for 4 was 1.8 wide and .9 high. I had a gusting cross wind so I believe that it should be under 1/2 moa. I didnt count the 5th shot as I fliched just before the trigger broke, pulling that shot 3 inches down.... But I will try this again and at 300 (or longer) instead of 285. Im in the process of making a drop chart and hope to take it as far as 700. However this will be difficult because I do not have a range that is longer than 200 so I have to shoot out in a field, and to get any distance, I have to shot through two tree lines. Makes it interesting....

Re: Loads for .300WM--.300WSM

Niles,

Just in case you are interested, my brother in law has a FN PBR also in a 300 WSM. He shoots 175 SMK with H4350 at 64.5 grain and it shoots single bug hole at 100 yards too. His groups at 300 yards weren't all that, but last season he took a blacktail at 800 yards, another at 600 yards, and a coyote at 700 yards. All were one shot kills. I was impressed. You might want to give the SMK a try too. I just like the Berger for it's sexy BC. Performance might be the same as the SMK.

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

I needed about .2 grns more of H1000 with the 208s than the 210s to get the same velocity. 210 data is a good starting place if it's safe in your rifle.

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

i've been loading 300 wm with imr 4064 208 gr amax @ 61.3 gr / i've been getting nice groups but i get a staggler moving my group from 3 inchs at 500yrds to a 5-6 inch group / i'm in the middle working up a load with h1000 to try to get more consistant groups but i don't know how far to seat this bullet it is packing the the powder so hard it's leaving a ring on the bullet /know i have to throw out some of the loads "i've tryed to seat the bullets just behind the rifleings with the old loads" but then the bullets don't fit in the clip, i can live with not putting the bullets in the clip if i know that its ok to go past the suggested over all lenghth to get accuracy / should i just push the bullet till it comes up snug on the powder then measure o.a.l then run it in my rifle and check my o.a.l to make sure it's not pushing against the riflings and moving my o.a.l./ this is a very long bullet please help me if you can thank you .

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

thanks for the reply but what about the stray bullets i'm shooting 5 shot groups , how much heat does it take to make a bullet stray at 500yrds 4-5inchs hot to the touch or do i need a temp gage on my barrel/i'm thinking it might possibly be that i'm canting my gun every once and a while so going to try and get a leveling device before i go out any anwsers are welcome / also why did my post get anwsered on a different page once again thanks alot someday i might even figure out this post
