Hornady doesn't make a 180 A-max. Is it an A-max (168, 178, or 208), or one of the 180 grain SST or Interbond bullets with the red tip? It makes a difference on the BC between these bullets.
You can go here to input the data. I'll help you best I can.

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

ChadTRG....thanks, I'll check it out and see if I can come up with some dope info. When I bought the rifle, it came with 300 rounds. The guy put on 180gr A-Max on the boxes.

The ammo does have the red tips. Thanks for your input!

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

300 WSM

200gr SMK
66gr RL-19
Fed 215
Rem Brass
Rem 700 SPS-V 26"
2890fps

consistently better than MOA out of my rifle, I need to measure the groups. Tried these out on 100-120 lb whitetail and they leave one heck of a hole, but 5 of 5 have ran about 50 yds. Plenty of blood but still unacceptable in my book. Great for paper though.

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

.300 Win Mag load data needed please...

I am running a Rock 27", 1-11 twist, M-24 profile barrel, RWS (Rheinisch-Westfälischen Sprengstoff) brass, CCI BR2 primer, .208 AMAX with Retumbo powder. Need amount of Retumbo behind the 208 AMAX.

Anyone else using Retumbo?

I wrote Hornady to get the load data and they replied they haven't tested Retumbo. Hodgdon told me 85gr but I want to confirm.

Please advise since I have searched and can't find a load anywhere on here. If you use Retumbo a PM would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

MR

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

Rifle:
Alan Brown built 300WM, Bartlein 1/11, finished at 26" with a Badger FTE brake, and used the same reamer developed for the MK248 220 SMK ammo

Ammo:
Win case
Rem primer
77.0 Gr of H1000
220 SMK
OAL-3.500
2840 FPS (average) using CED M2
no pressure signs
best 100 yard group ive done measured at .273 (5 shots)

I tried 77.5 grains of H1000 and got a little over 2880 (average) and showed minimum pressure signs (flat primer and very slight ejector impression) but no sign of hard case extraction.

Both loads shot extremely accurate, but with the pressure signs of the 77.5 load I will probably bump it down to 77.2 just to keep the FPS around or above 2850

Did some long awaited testing today and so far so good..

-Stock Remington 700P .300WM w/ FTE brake NF 5.5-22x50 NP-R1
-Federal Brass
-215LM Primers
-Hornady 208-A MAX jammed .010 into lands OAL: 3.645" 2.911" to ogive

Loaded 1 round each from 73.0 to 75.8 in .2 increments. total of 15 rounds shot @ 100yds. I do believe i have not found the MAX charge for these loads nor do i know the fps because no chrono

but i believe the accuracy is there and for me that is good enough for the moment. The three holes close to the bulls eye were not part of these loads but starting from the bottom to the first hole of the shoot in see is my data. The charges that grouped the best were 73.2 73.4 73.6. next I'll load 5 rounds of each better charge and see which one is the best. hope this helps!

I'm at 69.6 and 73.3gr of 4831sc with 190SMK, Win brass, Rem mag primers, OAL ~= 3.340", 700P 26".

I'm going to start on the 208 Amax and H1000 in a few weeks.

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

Thanks for the info. Will H4831 and H4831SC have the same loading charge for the 190SMK?I relize SC is for a short cut grain.Clairification on this would be appreciated.I have H4831 only and am just trying to make sure I can use the same gr density in 190.I have already loaded 208 Amax with H1000 for 300WM.My data was 74.5grn H1000 at 3.500"OAL.I am going to the range this weekend to dope in these loads. If I can shoot sub MOA at 100yds with the 208s,I will try and take them to a mile.Obviously doping at that range will take atleast 2to3 sessions, but I hear the 208 is awesome for 1500 plus.Note;I load the 208s for my TRG42 and the 190 for my 700.If you want more info on the 208,I will post upon request once I get my results.

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

Here is a little something that we came up with over the last couple of years.

300mm WSM Load
Powder Grains Primer Bullet

VV N550 73.0 Fed 215 Mag 110gr Horn VMax n/a With 15-twist bbl chambered for short bullets, ultra-accurate, hell on ground hogs.

RL 17 68.0 Fed 215 Mag 168 Barnes TSX tipped 3280
Accuracy excellent. Single-digit ES betw. 68.0 and 69.0 grains.
IMR 7828 69.5 CCI LR Mag 168gr Barnes TSX 3000 Win Nickel brass. Jump .060", 3/4 MOA. Very effective Deer/Elk Load.

RL 15 59.0 Fed 210 168gr Berger VLD 3105 Vel in 24" bbl. Hunting load--hammers deer.

VV N560 70.0 WLR 175gr Berger VLD 3190 1/2 MOA or less in 28" Krieger 12-twist barrel. Just touching lands.

H4350 63.0 Fed 210M 175gr Sierra MK 2960 Greg Anderson hunting load. Win Brass. Very Accurate in 11-twist, carbon-wrapped 26" bbl.

H4350 63.0 Wolf LR 180gr Barnes Triple Shock 2975 Win Brass. Hunting load for Savage 16. Serious Recoil.

RL 22 70.0 Win LR Mag 180gr Barnes Triple Shock 3025 Elk load. ES of 16. Great hunting bullet. 1.2" group at 100 in factory m70.

Win 760 66.0 Fed 215 Mag 180gr Nosler Accubond 3030 Hunting load seated off lands. 3/4 MOA at 100.

H4831sc 68.0 Fed 210M 180gr Nosler Accubond n/a Win Brass. 2.86" COAL. Half-MOA, 3-shots, almost no vertical in Savage sporter.

H4831sc 64.0 CCI BR2 210 Berger VLD 2850 Long-range BR load in Norma brass. Very accurate in 10-tw Krieger. Norma seems better than Win brass.

H4350 60.0 CCI BR2 210 Berger or 210 SMK 2855 Long-range BR load in Norma brass--has won many WmPort matches. Very low ES. Vel in 30" bbl. Fed 210M works also.

VV N165 64.0 CCI BR2 210 Berger or 210 JLK 2850 Long-range BR load. Norma brass. Very accurate, 1/4 MOA at 200 yards. Also try N160, 61.0 grains.

Hope that this helps and have fun.

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

I'll post what I got working a couple of days ago.

300wm
26" 1:10twist LW barrel with brake.
700 action

220gr sierra match king
H1000 powder 73.6gr
Win brass
Rem 9 1/2m primers

This was loaded at .010 off the lands and OAL was about 3.526 in my chamber.

It shot .26" groups of 5 rounds in my rifle. It stayed accurate to 73.3gr and then accuracy fell off at 73.0gr and 73.9gr but, it shot .31" 5 round group at 73.3gr also.

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

300 Win Mag

26" barrel, 1:10 twist

75.7 gr H-1000
Berger 210 gr VLD, naked just touching the lands at ~3.575" COAL
CCI250
WW Brass, match prepped
0.003" neck tension

Here are the chrony results from a 10 shot string:

2864, 2867, 2866, 2860, 2868, 2861, 2865, 2866, 2864, 2869

Groups are around 0.3 MOA until I get to 1000 yards, then open up to about 0.6 MOA most likely due to the shooter.

208 Amax jammed .010" into the lands
Win brass with minor prep
H1000 78.9gr

All loads between 78.0 and 79.2gr H1000 with this bullet and seating depth, case, and primer, have produced sub-MOA 3 shot groups in this rifle at 200 yards. I'll work a little more in this charge range to come up with a compromise between group size and velocity spread.

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

Anyone used VV N570 for the 300WM / 208 A-max's? I am looking to work up a load with that specific combination and scouring any source I can for load data. I've mailed Lapua and Hornady too so hopefully I'll also have some info to share soon. In the mean time if anyone can help...

Cheers
Ed

***Update***

OK both Lapua and Hornady have no data for this combination. Hornady were kind enough however to email me all the data they had. Fortunately I have other powders on the shelf that they have tested with. Might try the 570 however using Lapua's 220 grain load.

OK, I settled on the above load:

208 Amax jammed .010" into the lands
Win brass with minor prep
H1000 78.9gr
CCI magnum primers

median velocity 2874
extreme spread 21

5 shot groups average 1.5" at 200 yards
several 3 shot groups at 3/4" at 200 yards

It looks like this will still be supersonic at 1760 yards if I got the BC right - like I will ever have the chance to shoot at that distance.

All velocity numbers are with AAC 762-SD installed over an AAC brake. It's pretty amazing shooting the .300WM with a can! The .300WM sounds the same as a .308 with the can - like a .22lr from a rifle. The main sound is the crack of the bullet flight - and the impact of the bullet. Group size with and without the can are identical but point of impact is about 2" low with can on at both 100 and 200 yards and is repeatable and is the same as POI shift on the .308 bolt gun.

Using the data the Hornady kindly sent I worked up using IMR4831 finally settling on the max load as the best.

Specs as follows:

700P AICS stock

Remington Brass fl resized and prepped
CCI 250 mag primers
68.7 grains IMR4831
Based on drop at 300 / 500 I'm estimating around 2900 fps (although Hornady list this load around 2800 fps)
Bullet jammed .010" into lands

This bullet is incredibly slippery in the wind! Shot it yesterday in an F-Class comp and finished 2nd, no group photos to show unfortunately.

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

.300 WSM in a Win model 70, 24" barrel
185gr berger VLD
65gr RL17
win brass
2.945 OAL (approx .010 - .012 off lands)

haven't chrono'd yet, but shot clover leaf at 100.

also at this length, bullets fit easily into magazine. gotta love the long mag length of winchester rifles!
