Do you have any more info for the loads with 4831? I'm thinking of picking up some 208 a max and some H4831SC to use. I'm getting almost 2900 fps with the berger 190 and RL 22.

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

I actually developed a 208 load in about 3 days because mostly I think the gun will shoot anything well.
The numbers I originally posted I think are a little high based on a couple of other trips to the range.
I settled on:
208 a max
oal of 2.957 (to feed from alpha mags)
Win brass
Fed 210m primers
68 grains of H4831

For a velocity of 2825-2840 FPS (this is the extreme spread for every round I've put over a chrono)
The SD is around 7
I put 2830 into FFS and was dead on out to 940.
I shot this at the GAP Grind with absolutely no DOPE and FFS data was spot on every time which makes me pretty sure the current chrono data is lower than the originally posted numbers.
Over all it is pretty easy to load almost all non VLD rounds for the WSM.

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

I pulled some Southwest ammo WSM ammo after I was getting some really high velocities, almost 3100 FPS. I wasn't getting pressure, but was missing targets due to some way flatter rounds at distance. This has lead me to believe I might be able to get the 190 SMK going pretty quick too. They said they are using H4831 at around 67 grains.

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

Alright thank you very much for that info. Mine shoots vlds well with the H4350 but the velocity just isn't what I want to get out to 1k with. The RL 22 is doing much better but I need time to test a few more loads jumping .2 grains at a time. I need to find some where that has the 208 a max in stock so I can have some ready to try when I get more time.

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

FOR 300 WSM:

- Trued Rem 700 WSM
- 26" Bartlein 5R 1/10 Rem Varmint Barrel

For target, been experimenting with 208 BTHP ... vote not in yet
- Win Brass
- Hornady 208 BTHP
- 0.020" off lands
- 58gr H4350 or 59.9gr H4350
- CCI BR 2
Again, need to chrono. Both of these were ~ 0.50" but I think that 59.9gr is slightly tighter (recoil is pretty stout)

I'm going to try out Hornady 195 BTHPs (Cabela's had them on sale for $25/box) as well as H4831 also.

That's good to know. I have some Hornady 195 BTHPs coming my way, so this combo could be promising. Do you know if they are using standard large rifle or magnum primers?

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

I've been using CCI large magnum rifle primers for the 300 wsm that I had for the 338 already. I picked up some federal large rifle match primers for it to try out and see if I can get the groups to tighten up a little more.

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

300 WM
24" Obermeyer 5R M24 contour 1:11 twist

Here is what I am finding with load development since last summer.

210 Berger VLD Hunting
73.5 RL25, 0.262"@ 100m, 2"@600yds, OAL = 3.575"
73.5 RL25, 1.625"@ 600yds, OAL = 3.565"

190 Berger VLD Hunting
76.5 RL25, 1.875"@ 600yds, OAL = 3.575"

I have tried H1000 without much success so far. Just doesn't shoot as well as RL25 and RL22. RL25 is lights out in this rifle. I have tried it in 90 degree humid June and 35 degree dry cold November and it shoots great in all respects. Haven't put the loads through a chrono yet so not sure how much ES I may/may not be losing. But it's hard to argue with the accuracy RL25 is giving me.

The rifle is an Accurate Ordnance build. She's a shooter!

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

Looking to load the 210SMK with H4831SC. Seems that hard data for the 210SMK is quite elusive. Is the 210SMK more similar to the 208Amax or the 210VLD (or different all together) for the 300WM. Cause I see that Berger lists the 210VLD starting at 69.0 and max at 72.6 while the 208Amax maxes out at 68.9 per Hornady. Although Hodgon seems to give it to 71.x for both 200gr and 220gr bullets.

I have loaded some rounds starting with a couple test rounds at 69.0 with 3 shot groups starting at 69.9 working up to 72.0 in increments of .3gr. After having now seen the 208Amax data I'm wondering if I'm most likely going to have to pull most of these rounds?

Anyone any experience? Rifle is factory Remington Sendero.

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

Ok, so I have some Hornady 195 BTHPs that I'm anxious to try out in my .300 WSM. Looking to use H4350 and H4831(sc) powder.

For 200gr bullets, Hodgdon's website says 58-62gr on H4350, and for H4831, it says 63-66.5(c). I have an OCW worked up for these, so I'll see what works. Looks like I may get better velocity with the H4831. I intend on using regular LR primers.

Anybody have any luck with these combos?

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

I haven't tried the 4831 yet with 208 a max. I did use H4350 with the 190 berger and then RL 22 and it was much faster. I hear the 4831 is one of the best for the wsm for any bullet.

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

H4831 is a great powder for the 300WSM, its one of the three powders that I feel are the best powders for the 300WSM, the other two being Reloader 17 and magpro. This is just my opinion of course

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

Need some help here, from someone with a load program. I finally got a decent load for my 300 win mag rifle, but I have no chrony or program to use.

Using Rem virgin brass trimmed to 2.850
Rem 9 1/2 Mag primers
76.2 gr H-1000 powder
208 Amax bullets loaded .005 jump

Rifle is custom Savage 111 with 28 inch 1-10 twist barrel.

Please help! give me an idea of what speed Im running

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

why don't you just measure the drop you get at a known distance and back calculate your velocity? Several online ballistic calculators will do that (ex. the Vortex LRBC)

67 grains seems a little high, or at least borderline with max load. Has anyone else verified this charge weight? I'm asking because I bought of ammo from them and it shot great.

Hodgdon lists 66.5gr. as the max load for the 190gr. SMK, but they list the same max for 200gr. and 208gr. rounds, so I'm not sure how accurate their max is, I would say that even though its a half grain above Hodgdon's listed max, it is probably still safe.

They are using H4831 SC actually. When I called them about the faster rounds they said they tried H4831 NON SC with the same charge and that was what was giving the faster rounds. Hodgedon said that the load data is interchaingable, however real workd disputes that theory.

Not apples to apples but using the 210SMK/76.4gr H1000/CCI 250/Hornady Brass I was getting around 2900fps.

This was out of a 26" barrel so if you are close to the same length start here and plug into a ballistics app like JBM and see if 2900 tracks close to what you see and adjust from there.

As always hope this helps.

Trued Remington action, Jewell trigger, 30" broughton 5c with a 2" shrewd brake. Hs stock bedded.

230 hybrid otm with 76.2 retumbo jumping 70/1000" 2900 fps with chrony at 15 '.
Rp brass... Fgm215m
3/4 moa. Gotta tweak it.
Just picked up the rifle Friday. Started load development ASAP.

72.7 r22 210 vld. 3040 fps. Not very accurate

76.2 h1000 210 vld. 2943 fps with lowest sd and es. Also most accurate.

67.0 h4350 208 amax. 2889 fps. Horizontal stringing although it shot 3/4 moa at 120 yards.

Gonna play with the 215 hybrids tomorrow over some h1000. Will post results

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

Subed for info. I'm starting to buy all the goodies for reloading my new rem .300wm tactical xcr. Very excited to shoot this spring.

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

300WM

Limited data for reloader 25 around with heavier projectiles so adding these.

24" maddco barrel, Stiller TAC300 action. Throated so 208Amax just clears inside AI magazine!

190 Nosler CC, Federal 215 match, reloader 25 77.2 grains, Winchester brass. 3075fps. This is a little warm in my rifle, so will be backing it off slightly. Getting click on bolt openning after 3 firings on cases. Start a bit lower than this in your rifle!

208Amax, Federal 215 match, reloader 25 74.5 grains, Nosler brass. 2953fps. A little warm, but not over the top.

Cheers

Re: Loads for .300WM-.300WSM

Here's some more loads for the 300WSM:

208gr. AMAX
Remington brass
CCI LRM primers
63gr. RE-17
2.965" OAL
2900fps

208gr. AMAX
Win brass
CCI LRM primers
64.6gr. RE-17
2.965" OAL
2930fps

208gr. AMAX
Win brass
CCI LRM primers
65.1gr. RE-17
2.965" OAL
2970fps
too hot, got ejector marks on all the brass with this load, do not recommend working up to this much

230gr. Berger Hybrids
Fed brass
CCI LRM primers
60gr. RE-17
2.965" OAL
2710 fps
worked up to 61gr, but got ejector marks on 61gr. so 60gr. would be the max with Fed brass, usually Win brass for my 300WSM can take up to a grain more without pressure signs, and gets anywhere from 20-50 more fps. Fed brass is the softest brass I use in my 300WSM next to Rem brass, and usually can't take more than 3 mid ranged loads before primer pockets opening up. Win brass is the way to go for the 300WSM.

200gr. LRX
Rem brass
CCI LRM primers
63gr. RE-17
2.920" OAL
2930fps
tried my standard load of 64.5gr. that I use with Win brass and was getting pretty severe pressure signs, no pressure signs with Win brass though. reduced to 63gr. and got good velocity and safe pressure, I usually load Rem brass 1.2gr. less than Win brass to achieve the same velocity.

Wow. The case would have to be VERY empty to get that out of a 300WM.

How would you ensure consistency of ignition?

I guess you could do it if you used gun cotton exclusively, with maybe a normal large rifle primer.

Any loads for the 300WM with 208 A-max using Win WXR? I can't find H1000 or RL-22 right now and I found a hell of a good deal on some WXR. I've read that RL-22 data can be used for it, but looking at the burn rate chart, this doesn't look like it'd work. Any thoughts?

210 Bergers with like 78.0 of H1000 out of a 30" barrel was giving us in the 2900fps. range. The cases are a German match case and little lighter in weight vs. win. brass. Fed. 210m primers. It was a customers F-Class gun that I shot with him quite a bit and against it in F-class matches. I shot 1/4", 5 shot groups with that gun at 200 yards and the guy is in his 70's that owns the gun and has beaten me with that rig out to 1k yards. The gun is on it's 3rd or 4th barrel now and the gun has never disappointed. BAT action, McMillan stock. The throat of his reamer is a little longer so he can seat the bullets out a little further.

COAL 2.831 Off Ogive

5 shot 100y .313
3161 FPS 10 shot average
ES 41
SD 15

Now have some fully prepped Nosler brass to experiment with. Will have to stretch it to 1000y and see how it performs when the snow leaves.

208 grain a-max
72 grains h4831sc
norma brass
federal gmm large rifle mag primer
col 3.60
Extreme spread for 10 rounds is 9 fps, velocity is 2887. I have never had a 100 yard 5 shot group larger than .50 with this load. It shoots well to 1000 with virtually no vertical stringing.

Good Morning Gentleman,

I've done some searching and read through this thread but seem to be coming up short. Does anyone have the specs for the MK248 Mod 0 load that the military was using? Not the new Mod 1 as everything I've read about that one is that it's WAY to hot... As far as the Mod 0 goes, I know they've got 190gr Sierra HPBT's and likely RL22 however I can't seem to locate the OAL or the charge ranges that anyone may have used to duplicate this particular cartridge. This will eventually be to work up a similar load to a Custom From the fine folks at Accurate Ordnance. Stiller TAC, Brux 26" MTU contour. It's at the shop now for some fine tuning but when it returns I'd like to replicate that specific load to test it out. I do know that the military loaded that one VERY long but haven't been able to find the COAL and unfortunately don't have one to reverse engineer. Variety of components on the bench for when the rifle returns so this should be interesting to work up a few loads to see what the AO .300 is capable of. If I do my job correctly, it should hold .30 or better on a consistent basis with the right combination in the pipe.

Any help or reference material on the specs for the (MK248 Mod 0) would be very much appreciated.
Thank You

What's up guys?

Quick question is anyone using LC 300 WM Brass?

I'm trying to work up a load this is what I have so far...

220 SMK
COAL 3.400"
LC 300 WM Brass
Fed 210M Primer
H1000

I get a stuck bolt with less than 75grains of power, No pressure signs at 78grains and no stuck bolt, im going to work up between 75-80grains of powder.

Does this sound about right?

I have Never had the stuck bolt issue before when working at the lower end of the powder charge...

Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If you can run AICS mags, maybe look at Alpha 300WSM mags, whats the OAL on the Accurate mags? if its close to 2.950" you should be able to run the heavies, I load my 208gr. AMAX and 230gr. Berger Hybrids to 2.965" in my Alpha mags and they feed fine and shoot great.

Browning X-Bolt .300WM 26"
Fed brass
215M primer
180gr Hornady SST
73.5grs RL22 Seated@cannelure

.75moa

This oddly is 2.5grs from max, but the velocity tops the same factory load and shoots fair from a pencil barrel. I know primers are hard to read, but the pressure looks near max. COMMENTS WELCOMED. Loads chronoed@25yds

Factory load chronoed at 2979 ES20

300 WSM

28" 4 groove barrel AMU contour

215 Berger Hybrid
Remington Brass
Fed 210M
64.0gr RL-17

3020 fps average velocity, .25 MOA. I absolutely love this combo, plus the 215 and 230 Bergers are still available if ya know where to look.

Most load data is comprised with Large rifle primers, I believe mag primers give me a better burn.
One note, useing different brass can change pressure, Rem brass is 6-7gn more volume than RWS and made a difference of 6ft drop at 1640yds.
