So my goal is hog hunting/eradication using a .358 FAL with a suppressor. The goal is a subsonic (~1050 fps) load using a heavy bullet. I found a 300 grain cast bullet (Brinell 15, G1 BC .168, stabilizes in a 1:20 or faster barrel) from Hunters Supply.

With the supply situation now, I would like to be able to use powder I have on hand if possible.
Hodgdon - Titegroup, HS-6, HP-38, H-322
Winchester - 231, Autocomp, 296
IMR - 4350
Alliant - Reloader 7
Accurate - No. 5, No. 7, No. 9

You will be best informed to get an old Lyman cast bullet loading manual. Your specific interest are not exactly what most folks here are doing. Good luck with your project. Sounds fun.

Are you planning on shooting these out of a FAL?
Reason I ask is because although you may be able to adjust the gas system to get the rounds to cycle, it is probable that lead fouling from the cast bullets will clog the gas system after awhile. If you plug the gas system it should work fine with manual cycling.

Thanks, I figure I will have to remove the gas block and clear the gas hole every once in a while. With the suppressor, gas system will be mostly closed, so plenty of room to add more gas as it fouls. I am very used to FALs, carried a C1a1 in the Canadian infantry for years. 1000 blanks over an ex will really mess up the gas system.
