The perception that semi-autos are banned in Australia is completely false and spread by the media. They may be heavily restricted, but not unobtainable, I have an A15 and AR10.

New Zealand's gun laws are fairly relaxed compared to Australia. Most New Zealand gunshops stock semi-autos and suppressor's available on a hunting license.

The fall out of this shooting will no doubt trigger the anti-gunners and leftist politicians in both countries. More than likely they'll succeed in restricting firearms further.

From all the information I read, the shooter planned for a long time, maybe not in NZ because he was intended to stay only short term and just do some training, maybe he didn't realize suppressor rule in NZ is so ease to get one than US or other countries.

What I am saying is before any other extremists learned the experience and plan another attack anywhere in NZ and/or other places, better to tighten the rules at least for suppressors. And for this incident, NZ is complete a different story comparing to US, most of police officers do not carry firearms there even there are lots of gun owners. See the difference?

I know in US suppressor has been regulated at least good enough from my understanding, but in NZ it's pretty much like you can buy from ebay without license. Most of people stay safe because they do not use their firearms for illegal stuff or killing, but if someone like this shooter abused this kind of "trust" for massacre with easy access to certain gears, that would be a nightmare. You see where I am coming from? At least, NZ will do something to prevent similar incident happens again. Last one was around 1990 and the one before seems back to 1943.
