6.5 PRC load data

Is it possible to run PVA's 122gr. Cayuga in 6.5 PRC at short action mag length? I've been unwilling to keep on buying factory ammo, and I've got alot of H4831SC on hand.

If that's not a great idea, what lightweight bullet is a good choice for hunting use in WSM AccurateMags? Rifle is a Short Action Customs built Origin.

I’ve hunted 124gr Hammer Hunter this season. Two does head shots at 95 yards, one buck at 85 yards lung heart shot. He turned 180 deg and went straight down, complete pass through. Second buck at 90 yards heart shot, did a mule kick ran 40 yards, pass through.
Buck had minimal meat damage with lungs and heart destroyed.
These are 2,800 fps at the muzzle and I wouldn’t hesitate to use on larger game or distance.
Pretty accurate with H4831 out of Tikka running CTR mags

I'm going to be trying 135 A-Tips in the next week or so. I'm going to try IMR 7828 SSC. I think you could probably send them with H4831SC also. I think I'm going to be able to get them to 3,100 FPS with a 26 inch barrel. Should be pretty good for deer.

Sounds like what I'm looking for as well, something 3100+ with lower recoil. Are those A Tips a secant type ogive like the ELDM/Xs? I'm curious as to what length/style of bullet is realistically gonna work and feed well in short action configuration.

Thanks for the info. Is it possible to run these faster, or were you seeing pressure? Maybe not a 26" barrel..

The A-Tips are probably some type of hybrid profile. The 135's should be short enough to fit mag length easily.

I’m running these out of 16.5” barrel and they’re about 80 fps faster (going by memory) than 123 gr Nosler CC with same charge, but you can run them faster than conventional bullets before getting into pressure due to lower bearing surface.
I was looking for shorty hunting do most rifle with long barreled 260 rem performance 🤣

@orkan , I've been reading on a different forum where you've tested different bullet/powder combos in 6.5PRC. Did you ever test H4831SC and lighter bullets, and post results? If so, I'd love to have a look.

Ok guys I have been testing imr 8133 .This is a 4 shot group at 1065 . I did find a node at 58.5 grains with a velocity of 3030 on a 5 shot test I had a Sd of 3.4 and a es of 8 I’ve been running Norma mrp but also looking for something that was not temperature sensitive.
150 Sierra matchking
3.0 overall length
I’m going to load up some 153.5 Bergers with 8133 tomorrow. Where did you settle on this load?

Settled on a Load...
18" Proof Sendero Lite with 7" TBAC Ultra 7
124 Grain Hammer Hunter
ADG Brass
57.2 Grain H4831sc
2.900 COAL
3030 fps

Had fairly benign wind conditions today, so was able to shoot longer ranges with good consistency. I got about 1/2 MOA accuracy at 100, but my groups tightened up to about 1/3 MOA at 400, 600, and 750. Pretty happy with this combo for my hunting setup, next up is some on game performance.
I used this combo this year on a mountain goat, and two elk. Worked well on all 3. Shot ranges were a couple in the low 400s, and the goat was further than that. All one shot kills, even though I shot my goat one more time just to make sure. Pretty good blood trails on all 3, which I am not used to. Great rifle and ammo combo to shoot, and just about perfect for 99% of the rifle hunting I do.

Looking for advice. I'm wanting to build a 16.5" 6.5 PRC. Would I be able to shoot 156gr in a bbl that short? Would it depend on the twist? Do I need to go 18+ plus if just shooting factory match ammo instead of hand loading?

It's going to be a hunting rig shooting no more than 400 yards unsuppressed. Just wondering what my options are.

Assume that a 16.5” to 18” will give about the same speeds as a 24” to 26” 6.5 Creedmoor. For example the 130 Bergers out of my 18” 6.5 PRC give me around 2950 fps. That would put your 156gr around 2700 fps so a 7.5 or faster twist would be ideal.

RL22 and 23 also work well. The problem is 147 ELDMs come apart in mid air. Especially at 2900 fps and higher.

Hornady 147 gr ELDM
Rx 22 52 gr
Hornady brass x 1
Fed 210
COL 2.030
COAL 2.940
2886, 2872, 2881, 2880, 2900, 2876, 2883
1” group, no pressure signs

Hornady 147 gr ELDM
Rx 23 52.5 gr
Hornady brass x 3
Fed 210
COL 2.045
COAL 2.940
2934, 2934, 2934, 2938, 2934
0.75” group, mild plunger pressure ring
