I was recently told by OG13, "Quit being a fanboy and don't ever fucking drink the Kool-Aid, bitch!!! Things don't seem what they are." As much as we are great friends, I told him, "I can bury the fanboy inclination but I sure as hell want to drink the Kool-Aid!!!
The Kool-Aid in question was the GAP 6.5 4S. It has catapulted into legendary status over the course of a year. What's not to love about it? It's a high performance cartridge that operates within pressures that give you very, very good barrel life. I don't know about you, but I only kill a handful of animals per year. The 6.5 4S can last you many, many hunting seasons. And you can still kill paper and steel targets in-between if you wish to do so, too.
The idea was to use the SPR Surgeon 591, 6mm Creedmoor with the 6.5 4S as a switch barrel setup. I figured the barreled action in a KMW Sentinel was the ideal ticket if one didn't mind hauling a little bit of weight around the brush. I called Surgeon and ordered a WSM bolt, bought a barrel from Grizzly, a mag from Accurate-Mag, and the rest was history. All I had to do now was find a gunsmith. This is where the fanboy comment came into play. OG13 and I, especially OG13, have been good about commissioning projects with fairly "unknown" gunsmiths. As much as I wanted to go with one of several badass builders, which many of you know who I am referring to, I wanted a builder who had a quick turnaround time without sacrificing quality. I was lucky enough to have a conversation with a buyer one day. He purchased an item from me here on the 'Hide (I sell shit often
). We got to talking over the phone and it turned out he knew a gunsmith out of Texas that he had been using for all his builds. He had a 6.5 SAUM built by him. They came to establish a great friendship and he highly recommended him. He gave me his contact info and I got in contact with the gunsmith the following day.
His name is Omar Alonzo. He is a gunsmith from Pasadena, Texas. After spending a good amount of time talking to Omar, I was excited. He knew his shit and it was clear he had a passion about accurate rifles. As you may think, OG13 had this to say, "Brother, you are treading dark waters and you are going to get fucked. You truly don't know anything about this guy other than what he and his friend have told you. There isn't much about him on Google either." "For fuck sakes, he's got your name. So he must be good to go, bitch!," I responded.
I mailed my 6.5 4S parts to Omar within a few days, and I also shipped a barreled action for him to bed in a T4A; I had full confidence in his ability to produce excellent results. Two weeks later and the bastard sends me tease pictures of groups that he had shot with the 4S. He tested the 130 VLD and 140 Hybrid bullets with Remington brass. They were tiny groups. I was stoked. I showed OG13 the pictures and you would think that he'd be supportive, but nooooo, he wouldn't have it. He said, "He probably shot the groups from 25 yards!"
I ended up taking possession of both rifles a few weeks later since I didn't want Omar shipping them. I met Omar's friend, Keith, in San Antonio to pick them up. We chatted a little while I drooled over Omar's work. Everything about both rifles was flawless. Omar even painted the T4A stock in Sniper Grey and it looked damn sick. Let me say that Keith immediately stated that he wanted to buy the 4S since he already knew it was a laser. I told him, "Never!."

So I drove home from San Antonio the following morning. I arrived before 0900 hours, made love to my woman, and packed my shit and left to the ranch. Oh yeah, and I had my woman fix breakfast for me before I left. I just roll like that. My new Omar Alonzo 6.5 4S had me feeling like a badass.
Let me say that when I tested the first load and it shot around 1", OG13 was stoked. These were his words, I am not making shit up, "That's fucking awesome!!!! I told you you were going to get fucked by this Omar guy! I am loving it already. Test the next load, you dumbfuck!" I tested the next load and I had the same results. By this time, OG13 was raving like a cheerleader on Speed. The next load that I tested quickly shrunk. The group was easily covered by a dime. OG13 just smiled and said, "I was only dicking you around, brother. It looks like Omar does know his shit!! Great job with giving him the opportunity to prove to us that we don't always have to pay stupid amounts of money to get an accurate rifle. Both rifles are kickass."
So, with that I'll say that I couldn't be happier with the gunsmith from Texas. Omar Alonzo does outstanding work. It was especially refreshing to not pay an arm and a leg for work that I consider high quality. I am not saying that I'll never have another rifle built by anyone but Omar. I still enjoy rifles from different gunsmiths. It's part of the excitement. They are all unique. I am thankful that I have had great experiences with every gunsmith that I have dealt with. Omar is now part of my top rated gunsmiths "tricky bag."

Accurate Ordnance .260 was originally in a chassis. Omar bedded it and the Defiance DBM in a T4A and also Cerakoted the stock.
