Accuracy International AT-X

Hey all, I've seen a few folks swap over to AXSR stocks on ATX rifles and was curious why? Folding hinge? I was seeing it was possible to make a AXSR hinge work on these and still retain the ATX stock. Loving mine so far. TIA

The earlier versions required tools to adjust LOP and cheek. Combined that with folders were not available for quite a while.

I would either cut in between the 3rd and 4th slot from the front at a 90 or from the top of the top cover at an angle that intersects the 4th slot, the screw hole then back to 90 to the bottom or continue the angle.

or this one, didn't save, dang it-just follow the red line to the top, should line up with forward edge of the top cover

impatiently waiting on this chop. would open major possibilities for me if I like the look afterwards.
I would just need to find a machine shop that would be able to do the work.

Hey guys I have fallen behind on my AI trivia and don't have time to read all 112 pages of this thread. Could you please summarize the difference in the AT-X generations for me?

1 and 2 have Allen screws for adjustments on the cheek riser and LOP. Gen 3 has thumb wheels

That’s the biggest I can think of

Supposedly Gen 4 adds the folder and forend bridge to the same package. Not out yet but that’s the rumor

Where did you get the bolt and what barrel ?
I got a factory bolt from Euro after trying for like a year! They got a few in a couple months ago. Bugholes does the conversion. I just grabbed a Bartlein MTU they had on the shelf for the barrel. Should handle factory stuff well but mainly for my 77-80 class bullets I’ll load up for it with a longer COAL.

To be clear...you got a factory bolt from us and then had it modified - Just didn't want anyone thinking we were hiding 223 bolts somewhere ;)

I was just about to jump on the site to find the .223 bolt to haha

How often you see the 260 barrels come in stock? Plan to order one this winter. Just curious if you see them every couple weeks, months, years? The black 26” 2018 profile

Just have a good smith like Manzella or Black Canyon cut you one, would be same price(or cheaper) and you'd have it a lot sooner I bet. Manzella will cut the wrench flats in it and everything. He did cut barrels at AI for a handful of years. Ace would likely make you the custom contour and have it available in 12 weeks.

Thanks for the info! That was my other thought as well

I like the chop idea! A short forend version was supposed to be available eventually. You're def the first guy I've saw put a $400 scope on a $4k rifle! 🤣
Probably less than $300 🤣. It’ll live on the gun forever and bring a smile to my face every time someone has a meltdown about it about it.

OK I'm gonna be a downer.

I got burned on the AT-X.

(1): The price drop. Given current inflation, that was a nice kick in the nuts to first run customers. Also killed resale
(2): 1st gen--no quick adjust, multiple screws to manipulate. At this price point that is just inexcusable.
(3): Post product support. Getting a hinge has been nigh impossible. I don't have the time of day to play around waiting for in stock notices and be there within 5 minutes.
(4) I can't mount a **** Sling without a $80 rail accessory.
(5) Keyslot. I know AI had theirs first. But Key mod is 1/4 the price and 90% wider adopted. And available.

Yes it is a nice rifle, it shoots, but I can't work with it. I can't hunt with it (needs sling attachments). I can't upgrade it (hinge out of stock) without spending way too much time.

I'm out.

And it'll probably be a cold day in hell before we get magnum/valk/223 bolts if ever.

I shoulda learned my lesson on a computer game pre-order back in the day. This one was much more expensive. For all the hype, my $1000 Howa does the same thing and I can take that hunting without an upgrade, and get parts. I would have to buy an ARCA rail, but that still leaves me several grand in the black.

Make no mistake, its a nice rifle--but AI got my money and I got suckered. No way this is worth the price and effort I paid.

AI rifles are very good $ on the second hand used market. So that’s where I suggest people buy them

With the recent increase on new stock it gets harder for a person to justify buying new. It was already a bit out of hand prior to that with the current market for precision rifles

I bought a Atx at the discounted price and started looking for accessories. I canceled the order and went with a Termnius Zeus. The cons you mentioned above were a deciding factor.

Agree---that's why I am so pissed with the price drop. Resale if decided was one of the major positives.

The unsaid thing is I had just started to trust some of the talking heads about products once again.
Not now, I know I am well off, but when I get screwed in a deal--it makes me reflect on how I arrived there.
Usually I try and Listen to guys like Frank and Jacob and they were talking this up a storm.
The whole thing is a very bad taste and I feel like I'm just another cash cow and the in crowd gets to laugh up a storm.
I don't trust anyone's recommendations on this sight anymore (and for all my cursing, that is the worst insult I can think of)

I should have known: caveat emptor

I couldn't even find the specs for keyslot to make my own screws. Hell with my luck they'd sue me for patent infringement.

When the gen1 and gen 2 were released I thought they said they were working on the adjustable version (gen3). Thats the main reason I waited to order mine. I shoot with my kids a lot. So I need the quick adjustment.

As for the hinge just put one on backorder and sit around and wait. I have no idea how long mine will take to get in, but some day.

However my AT-X is starting to grow on me, now that I got my 6br feeding right.

I made my own keyslot (AI) screws out of keymod ones - just get a marker and a grinder.

price drop sucks and I would put less blame on Frank than on the heads of AI.
