I sourced a RAL8000 Schmidt with the reticle (GR2ID) I really wanted for PRS from a member here on the Hide. My old 5-25 with a P4F was tough for wind holds.
Can’t wait to zero it and shoot a match next month.

There's probably not too many 6 BR shooters for AI's. Those that shoot 6 BR and wildcats are also split up further between BR, BRA, Dasher. And I personally wouldn't value a used barrel much vs just getting a new barrel where I'm sure of its history. Only reason to get a used barrel is if it's cheap cheap cheap!

Question about SA Magnum choices for the AIAT….I sent my extra bolt to Fritz this morning. I mostly see 6.5PRC or 300 WSM is one better than the either? Any different suggestions to consider? I run a DeadAir Sandman S on my AT if that makes any difference….

I have a SA mag ATX. I went with a 6.5 PRC first, S'Ok for whatever reasons I'm always struggling with mag length vs jump. I'm also setup for 7mm Sherman short, I don't have a barrel yet but I'm thinking it's going to be a better SA Mag choice.
That barrel is never leaving my hands! The lords caliber and tack driver.
I decided swapping barrels was dumb so I sold that one as I have another dedicated .308 rifle... Then I bought 2 more barrels in different chamberings for my AT.
Never even heard of a 7mm Sherman …. Right now my barrel is 6.5cm with the COL at 2.8 I will start looking at those limitations … did you give 300wsm a look? If so why didn’t you go that direction?

I’d go 7 SAUM if I stepped up to a mag bolt face.
I never looked at 300 WSM because I think it's a long case and for shooting heavy projectiles would not fit in a short action mag. I'd guess it's a great hunting option but poor target option for a mag fed short action. Probably a solid choice for medium action. However I don't know much about 300 WSM so maybe my assessment is wrong, and now Lapua is going to start making brass for it...
300 WSM is a short Magnum...300WM is long....Thats why I was thinking about it, The ballistics look good from my limited experience...
Right, I mean the 2.1" base to neck is long for a short action. It's a long short case
The 300wsm is one of my favorite short action cartridges. But there are probably better target rounds out there. I shoot 210gr bergers at 2800fps. Guessing I could probably get more fps if I tried other powders.
6.5 PRC performs really well and still kinda ideal in a SA with Saami spec chamber in these guns with factory ammo. The hornady factory rounds, you can't really seat them out farther anyways. So having a COAL of a XM action is no good unless your throating it out. For something like the 156s and saami chamber you could technically seat them further but it's pretty impressive at 2.970 COAL anyways.
For reference, a 22 inch 6.5 PRC and factory 143eldx is 2925 fps. Pretty easy to get handloads in the 3k range with 22-24 inch tubes with certain powders and 156s. Even 18" barrels and 156s are impressive. 20-22 is my sweet spot I prefer on the 6.5PRC.

So I ran my AXSR through K&M's 4 day precision rifle course this past week
First of all, if you're on the fence about taking a course at K&M ... it was absolutely worth the price of admission and K&M is by far the nicest and most well equipped range I've ever shot at. The cadre consisted of highly experienced instructors from all over the precision rifle spectrum (hunting, PRS, military, etc.) and included Shannon Kay himself.
I went full yolo and ran the AXSR with a 20" 1:10 .308 barrel slinging 175SMK at a super slow ~2500fps. I figured that shooting a boat anchor 308 would amplify any mistakes and therefore make for better training and it sure did! I think I averaged around a 65 to 70% hit rate and especially past 800 things got pretty challenging when the wind picked up. But I did manage to clean a run at 600/700/800/900/1000 and any misses within my powerband of 800 yards could be traced to some sort of mistake on my end. With my AXSR weighing in at 22lbs I was for the most part able to call my shots and see both my misses and impacts.
We cycled through almost every style of long range shooting ... they took us out to 1200 yards from prone on day 1 (this was sheer luck but I did connect at least once on 1200 with the 308) and as the class progressed we worked our way to on the clock PRS-style stages that required building multiple shooting positions.
Targets varied from things like dueling plate racks at 300 and 500 to 12" movers at 500, hostage rescue targets in busses and a variety of game silhouettes anywhere from 300 to 800 yards out. You basically get to shoot every single range and target at K&M. You are shooting for about 6 to 8 hours a day with instructors spotting for you. They constantly adjust and reaffirm your fundamentals.
What I really enjoyed about K&M's approach is their focus on teaching you how to troubleshoot your own training. You walk out of there with a very clear and repeatable training methodology that you can immediately start repping out at your home range as well. The instructors were polite, professional, and always focused on the students.
The AXSR hammered but I did once more experience the forend coming loose about 300 rounds into the class. Last time this happened I put vibratite but that seemed to have cleared off entirely so this time I blue locktited it in at 55inch/lbs. If it comes loose a 4th time AI is getting a call. There was another AXSR in the class that didn't have any issues so I'm suspecting the threads in my forend aren't holding torque properly for whatever reason.
The class did really shake out my gear and I learned a ton about what I like and will continue using and what I will never touch again. For the AXSR the first thing I did when I got home today was to bump up my ring height to 1.5" because at my previous ring height the cheek rest bottomed out and I found myself hunting for a sight picture during class in certain positions. I had to really lean into the rifle to get eyes on targets which in turn introduced unneeded muscle tension into the rifle. I was also fighting my rear bag from prone a LOT because I brought a git-lite filled pintsize gamechanger. Once I switched to a heavy sand schmedium things significantly improved.
I was expecting more issues with the AXSR 308 mags but they ended up running pretty flawlessly now that they're tuned. In 4 days of non-stop shooting I only had a single issue with a double feed (which I'm fairly certain was induced by me).
Overall 10/10 ... would definitely attend again.

Was also the first time for him shooting a bolt action long range, but he did have a massive round count out of the tactical games so a lot of trigger experience. Was just really cool to see that steep learning curve and knowledge transfer kick in really fast for some folks during the course.

The one i purchased was sold as RAL8000 but it is obviously not as it’s to match the AI and Steiner scope.
I have a S&B 5-25 in Ral8000 and will be mounting them on a Rem 700 in 300 Win Mag when the Badger Rail arrived.
I ordered the rail with 0 MOA because the ERATAC has 30MOA built in.
I tried to find a Recknagle rail but no luck in the USA and GB said they could not ship to the USA.
Where to get a Matching Steiner I don’t know but I-saw one like it from Canada but they Wanted Full price.

Here’s my rifle for reference, have it in 6.5, 300WIN and 338. Also should note that I have a Ckye pod gen2 regular and PRS version. Which is why I’ve narrowed it down to the heavy or double pull

It’s a skid pad from ECS Dynamic Gear. Discontinued and the company is out of business.
I was lucky enough to snag it from a gentleman who looks down upon muzzle brakes and Nightforce. He’s clearly delusional but he is much appreciated.
I think you get more action on that ARCA pad than any other single accessory on The Hide does, haha!
So when I look on AI's website, I see the AXSR is available in sage green. I don't recall that color ever being available here in the US.

They disco'd Elite Sand and are bring back Sage Green. I don't know if they shipped any sage rifles yet, I don't think I've seen anyone post one up yet.
this settles it....elite sand aint so ELITE now is it! All you ES owners can repent and break out the rattle cans now to cover your mistakes.
So I did a thing and it worked out pretty decent.
I was able to snatch an Accuracy International AICS 1.5 Legacy chassis at a killer price(450 dollars). It had some years under its belt and was kind of rough and had the most insanely solid spraypaint on it initially. Bolts were also mostly chewd to bits… The alu-chassis was in prestine condition, other than som dust, but the panels needed som work. Nothing worked(aceton etc) to remove the paint, so I had to use more heavy tools to get it back to its original color. Im like 100% i will rattlecan it further down the road but I wanted to bring back to life the original color as a base atleast. Fortunate to have glass-blasting equipment available, and that work like magic. The final pieces are still curing(kind of shiny in wet fase) so will update again when they are fully cured

What is actually the going rate on these now? I have one that I will sell this summer when I upgrade and can't find good comp prices.
This was pretty beat so 450 was just a insane good price, and I just winged it to try and make it new. Not planning to sell but a good piece should run 8-1200 dollars maybe? I guess they are around 1500-2000dollars in the us i believe?

To be fair, anything Kel-Tec has a higher street cred than a non-ES AI.
