Accuracy International Quick Adjust cheekpiece?

I've been running an AIAW for some time now and I'm contemplating acquiring a AWM. Has anyone had experience with the quick adjust cheekpiece option?

Here's the reason I ask: I've had a few slight problems with the standard, screw adjustable AI cheekpiece. Even after tightening the screws, the cheekpiece occasionally comes loose. Also, in order to clean the weapon(1.5 version) the cheekpiece needs to be removed, and it's kind of a pain to reindex it to the same spot to which it was adjusted. It's an easy fix, I and several other shooters have solved these problems by fabricating spacers out of Delrin or tubing and inserting them between the cheekpiece and the chassis. I have also taken to slightly notching the legs of the cheekpiece to put a slight detent in for indexing purposes. Just thought the quick adjust option might help out with the above.

Re: Accuracy International Quick Adjust cheekpiece?

I have the QA cheekpiece and LOP on my AWSM. I haven't had any issues with it moving or loosing it position. But I also have the folding stock on my rifle.

So I never move it anyway. Juat swing the stock out of the way when I want to pull the bolt out or clean.

As far as ordering a new rifle. I'd pass on the QA anything and would certainly get the folder.

I would agree with forgetting the QA cheekpiece and stick with the folding stock. The folding stock will eliminate having to remove it so you can remove the bolt for cleaning. I think the QA cheekpiece is way overpriced for what it is and only is really beneficial if you have several shooters shooting the rifle and all need different cheekwelds.

I got my AI AW308 with folding stock and standard adjustable cheekpiece and never looked back.

Re: Accuracy International Quick Adjust cheekpiece?

I have one of each.

Personally, I prefer the regular adjustable cheek piece. I've never had a problem with it staying put when tightened down properly.

The quick adjust hasn't given me any problems but I don't feel it's necessary for my purposes and anything that can quickly adjust into position can quickly adjust out of position. It is however useful if your rifle will be used my multiple shooters who will all have different cheek welds.

Quick adjust cannot be removed like a normal cheek piece which is why it's only an option on folding stocks.

Re: Accuracy International Quick Adjust cheekpiece?

I have an AWSM in .338 Lapua and would recommend the same as Cut and vdub said, go with the standard adjustable cheekpiece and the folder stock. With this setup you set the cheekpiece and you never need to touch it again.

Necro solution...

Go to Home Depot hardware section. Buy the 1/4" neoprene washers; they're like $.48 for a package of 4. Stack as many as you need on the cheek rest prongs for the height you want,1/16" at time. Instant index.

Won't work for everyone, of course, but I just stick an empty 45 case, lying on its side, under there and snug up the screws.
I have never gone beyond finger tight and a grunt and never had the cheek piece slip down on me.
Best thing about this is the pistol range is right next door, I can walk over and pick up a new gage any time I need one.

What he said , I have folders & all are std AW etc ( ie non-quick adjust ) , and thats how I like them , I have a QA on my AX338 as thats the only option I had , so in short to me , as long as you go folder , forget the costly un-needed QA option .
