AI chassis for Anschutz

Somewhat balanced, zeroed off the bag on the tank trap, 12 round mag extensions work. I had Austin change the springs to the 5018 spec and adjust the trigger to 4oz, its perfect.

If you go with these you will also get a savage 22 mag use the spring and follower, it's a little bit tricky to get the new spring oriented and sitting in the mag.
I'm going to give the factory barrel a thorough test. Seems decent out of the gate. A 1.125" 24" Bartlien would not hurt my feelings

Out early this morning to beat the wind. I'm impressed. SK Long Range match 2, 12 shot groups. (Trying out the mag extensions). This is my practice ammo, I've won the local club matches shooting this in my RimX rifles, looks like the Annie is falling in line

Also did others who got their Anschutz ATX have the hex key stored under the cheek piece missing?

I would wager a guess of 4mm….there are 3, 5mm hexes for the one-piece chassis/stock attachment but a 5mm wouldn’t fit in the receptacle under the check rest.

Finally got it out to my farm at 50yds….had a 17-32mph west wind and, of course, I’m shooting dead north….I did my best to wait on conditions but they just got worse.
90% of the time it’s from the south….shooting SK Rifle Match, saving the RWS R-50 for a little down the line.
Looks like once this barrel is seasoned it’ll really shoot…not too bad now.
It did have a phenomena of throwing the first shot low….the last group has 10rds but it was a fight.

Looking good, its windy this time of year!
Spoke with Austin about new barrels throwing the first shot, he says that's typical. Mine has 420 rounds to date and it's getting better about the thrown shots. Also breaking in a new 5 groove Bartlien on a RimX in the same chassis. Accuracy wise it's the Bartlien by a nose, but just barely.

I saw that one as well but if I want a fortner style action I'm just going to deck out a summit action. Not the same but even at the 54.18 cost I'm higher than I envisioned lol.You’ll need to justify another 1K+ for the Fortner….
The Fourtner may be getting all the attention but the 54:18 will more than hold it's own. They are spectacular actions capable of astounding accuracy!
might just be a slight lack of knowledge but if they use the same mags they load the same and the barrels are made the same. It really just comes to the cycle action and I personally cant justify $1k more for that over running a bolt. Its cool as hell....but the $1k could go towards a nice scope.
Just mentioning that the Fortners are so far above the other Biathlon style actions that they are definitely worth the extra expense, that is if one can afford it. But if its out of the budget then Oh Well, or else keep saving.
These 1727F AI's are out of mine currently because I've spent WAY to much money on other priorities last year and this year but because I have a 1827F I know how awesome these actions are. Also I don't compete in NRL or PRS anymore so I don't need one. Would I love to have one, HECK yeah I would!!!!!!!!!
Around 6 years ago shortly after NRL22 began I started winning more than a few matches. In some of those matches I did well on stages that had awkward positions. Basically I was able to easily cock my Fortner fast while not getting off the scope. Why?? it's because you push the bolt forward with your thumb. It's a natural motion that must be experienced to be appreciated. Also almost the speed of a semi but has the precision of a bolt rifle. I'm pretty sure this advantage helped me slightly edge out my closest competitors here and there.
Man, my Fortner has been crazy reliable too, and that's using 5 mags. Had a couple hickups in close to 10,000 rounds and I think it was because I didn't load the magazine right.

I have both (only the fourtner in an AI) and there really is no difference in accuracy between them. The fourtner is a bit faster to cycle, definitely cooler but my 54:18 with a 1" Lilja is every bit (and maybe more ) accurate than the fourtner. I had to pick which to send in to get the AI and I chose the fourtner as it needed a better stock to bring out the potential accuracy. Note that due to arthritis My thumb does not work to close the bolt, but on the AI doing that is problematic anyway.

The only Fortner I've been able to run took considerable effort to close, even with fairly strong and large hands. My thumb would be aching after a few stages. On average, I felt I could run my 64 faster and more reliably and wouldn't have to push the gun off target to get it into battery.
I have found that I can open and close it really fast with thumb and finger on the lever and sort of throw it back and forth. The idea of using my thumb on the back of the bolt never worked for me as it did hurt. I can work my 54:18 bolt about as fast, it does cause more rifle disturbance than the Fourtner but it is fast. Like I said the reason the AI went on the fourtner was because I had not found a stock that I liked that would allow the action to be as accurate as the rifle is inherently capable of. I have a 54:18 (original with black McMillian thumb hole stock and factory barrel) that could be a suitable donner, but it shoots ok.
I put a Gemtech Mist on my 1727 Fortner.
I wish I would have gone with a different stock, but the GRS is ok.
After a couple hundred rounds the action slicked right up and opening and closing with my thumb for a 150-200 round match wasnt hard at all.
My old 1827 was incredibly easy to work fast.
With the way the AI chassis is set up, you wont be able to close it like a traditional Fortner.
I wish I would have gone with a different stock, but the GRS is ok.
After a couple hundred rounds the action slicked right up and opening and closing with my thumb for a 150-200 round match wasnt hard at all.
My old 1827 was incredibly easy to work fast.

Shot two and both are virtually effortless, minimal movement, very fast. Either action 54.18 or the Fortner with the 5018 trigger you can't go wrong. Fortner cool factor is priceless

That's odd?? Mine is slick and easy to close. The action is meant to run fast which means the bolt uses momentum on closing, otherwise there is a slight click at the end of the push stroke. Or maybe the chamber was clogged up with residue.
I hadn't thought of the fact that the access to the end of the bolt isn't there like in my wood stocked 1827F. I wonder if ANA has a aftermarket thumb tab that can be attached to the back of the bolt so it sticks out to the right farther so the thumb can manipulate it normally???I put a Gemtech Mist on my 1727 Fortner.

It’s in the works with Fortner. It will also hopefully be in a position to use as a thumbrest

Good to hear my experience with a Fortner is atypical. I'll have to give them another look someday.

Headed to the match at Oak Ridge. The rifle is brilliant, me not so much. Absolutely cratered one stage, probably cost me the win but oh well

Anyone make a mag caddie similar to what's on a biathlon stock that would work with AI's keyslot? Don't know how practical it would be for comps but I would use one.
Short action precision makes an extra mag holder simulator the PRS extra round holders. It works well for the 10 round mags.
Thanks. More interested in the biathlon type if anyone is aware of anything.
