So my lovely fiancée suggested I tell this story and see what the Snipershide community had to say about it.
I’ll try to be absolutely objective, and keep it as short as possible, by providing a bullet point description:
-I have had a habit of using kitchen items such as knives and bowls to do utility-oriented activities. For example, the stainless steel salad bowls as brass receptacles and knives for various cutting tasks
-My fiancée has made it clear she doesn’t like this, and created a house rule that food-handling items can’t be put back into the kitchen once they are taken out of the kitchen and used for utility purposes. I agreed.
-Approximately 4 months ago, my fiancée purchased 3 new quality kitchen knives
-Over the weekend, she was in the mancave and found one of them on my workbench, with a nick in the blade
-She became very, very angry
-I was out of town this weekend, so she texted me to inform me she found a kitchen knife in the mancave
-I replied with “??” because I had no idea what knife she was talking about
-She described the knife, and reaffirmed that she was pissed, and that I had agreed not to do this
-So I get home last night, she is at work (her 2nd job). When she comes home, I go to the door to greet her, but she is “ANGRY woman”, and begins the yelling
-She is angry that I lied when I said I wouldn’t do this anymore. She is angry that I have no respect for her. She is angry that I hadn’t apologized yet. She is angry that I stole a knife from the kitchen. She is angry that I didn’t own up to the offense immediately when she texted me about it. She is very angry.
-I acknowledge that I did in fact agree to not do this, and that I had done it anyway. I say I’m sorry, and that I’ll replace the knife. She is still angry
-She suggests I self-impose a punishment for these infractions, such as no shooting/guns for a week
-I begin to apologize again and she interrupts to tell me to apologize tomorrow
-I choose to sleep on the floor in the living room
