Rifle Scopes Arken SH4 Gen2 6-24x50 VPR MIL

Does anyone have any time behind an EP4 or EP5? How do they compare to the SH4? How about a PST Gen 2 comparison? I’m struggling with an optic decision for my 6.5CM T3X Tac A1.

I’ve typically purchased Vortex optics but also have an NXS and a Leupy Mk4.

Yea, I’ve commented previously on it, definitely worth $100 extra. Better clarity, edge to edge and especially in lower light and adverse conditions. My EP4 is 4-16 so can’t comment at higher mag but throughout the same range definitely better. It’s not quite as good as my DMR3 but not far behind and doesn’t tunnel like the DMR3. Hope that helps.

There is some illumination short comings across the board.
I think it has more to do with price than anything. At some point all these features will up the price. They probably went with a cheaper illumination set up and focused more on durability.
I'm fine with that to be honest as I rarely use the illumination however, I've experienced no fuzziness. I'd rather durable, consistent tracking and good to great glass. Illumination just adds to things that can go wrong imho

is it really that much of a difference? Not doubting but seems like a no brainer for $100 then imho

I hope these don't take forever to ship out, my order still says processing and I placed the order on the first day of the announcement. I just hope the EP5 is a decent low cost option that works, if so, ill be happy with that. I'm not expecting the glass to match my AMG or anything silly, just don't want it to be terrible in the same breath. I was sucked in when they merged the EP4 and SH4 together, I liked the looks of the reticle in the SH4 and knew the EP4 had better glass, so this was the next step in the evolution to really get what I was looking for.. Fingers crossed I don't have any issues with it when it arrives..

I just hope they offer an EP5 in a 50mm option, as well. I like 56mm objectives for hunting rifles, just sometimes they're a bit excessive for target rifles, like running them on AR's, DMR's, or other rifles with full top rails. The 50mm is more clearance. And comparing 2 identical scopes with both 50mm and 56mm, it's honestly not THAT much more light transmission or FOV over a 50mm if the glass is equal in quality and the tubes and internal lenses are the same.

I don't think you would be giving up much if they made an EP5 5-25x50mm for the same price, or even maybe $499? 🤷🏼 I'd still buy a few...Provided my EP5 is that vast of a difference over my SH4 Gen2 6-24x50's when it comes in. I'm hoping the Jap ED glass will be typical Japanese glass quality, like you see in some of the upper/top-tier brands. I'm not expecting Zeiss V-series or anything like that, but it would be nice to get somewhere at, or above the Viper Gen2 and older Zeiss Conquest MC or HD scopes. That would be impressive for $549 with all the other durable features of the Arkens, and the precision tracking, 10 MIL rev turrets, etc...

Once I get my EP5 I'll put it up next to my SH 4-16 and even the NX8 for fun. Honestly it's not too big a deal to have the absolute clarity for me. Especially given the value with these. I'm just pumped they have a version with Japanese glass.
I've had a ton of optics...the SH4 Gen 2 glass holds its own just fine...I think you will like the EP5 as well...my only worry is being 5X erector in a compact body...they freakin' nailed the 4-16 SH4 Gen 2 in my opinion...

56mm is the standard now. You’re debating 3mm more toward the rail. My opinion is your in a minority wishing for 50mm. That was a cost cutting option initially. They’re not in the business, at least thus far, of having a lot of options. Probably smart. Working this far for them.

Vortex Viper PST Gen 2’s are currently running about $650 new. In your opinions, is the Vortex better than the Arken offerings?

Looking at the 5-25 Vortex so should compare the 6-24 Arken sh4 ($450) and 5-25 EP5 ($550).

No, the brass turret has failed on the pst2 I personally wouldn’t pick it.
Most would probably never have a problem, but once I see a serious flaw, I’m out.

Don't forget the Arken price ALSO INCLUDES the rings/mount, scope caps, throw lever, bubble level & rear bag if you use the discount "save$170" . I assume the $650 Vortex will cost an additional couple hundred dollars (or more) to order everything else necessary to mount & use?

I've only seen the old EBR-4 reticle model PST Gen2 models for $650 on closeout. The newest EBR-7C models are still $999.

And the Arken EP5 has actual real Japanese ED glass for $549... And the Viper Gen2 has Philippines OEM "XD" glass for $999.

I wouldn't get the Arken 6-24...but that's me...eyebox is pretty darn tight vs their 4-16...

Yeah...I figured as much....especially at the price point they're offering them at.

Illumination is just fine when the sun starts to set or rise. Honestly. I could care less about illumination in a mid to precison optic…

As your eyes get older and have a black reticle with a black target in shade you will suddenly figure out why an illuminated reticle makes sense.
I can see that…however we can’t have it all in this price range. I think Arken focused on solid turrets and parallax first…illumination and exterior finish is where cost cutting had to happen. I do wish they would have kept the windage just capped…

I agree with this, I didn’t even bother putting batteries in my scopes until I started using my lpvo as a red dot, now I find my eyes are really picking up the red much better than without. I’m about to sell my non illuminated DMR2 for something illuminated, maybe a EP5. I’m anticipating some feed back on them now that they are shipping.

I'm just a little confused because I ordered on the 20th at around 9pm and haven't received a shipping notification at all and it still says awaiting processing and you ordered 2 days later than I did???
Just shoot them a email with the order confirmation, they’ll have you one in the mail asap. I bet ya.

Yes they do, in the aspect that they pick up a vast amount of scopes ready to ship at one time and only scan so many.
This is what Arken themselves have said.
For example, something was supposed to arrive via USPS today... But it didn't, and their website still says it's supposed to be delivered today, even though it didn't even arrive at the nearest main hub until about 3am this morning, and hasn't reached my local hub for distribution yet. 🤔🤔🤔

That's A Mystery.gif

I'm starting to think their tracking system is as dumb as most of their employees...
